Thanks for the throwback memories for me... my first trail in my first ever visit to Utah was Zion Canyon to West Rim! I came from Florida 72 ft elevation above sea level and by the time I hit the white rock switchbacks my feet felt like 20 lb lead weights! Love the new camera magic stuff too! Thanks for sharing!

Love your hiking videos. Always been skeptical of the 360 but you did a great job of using it effectively! Props!
@Acrossutah6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Yep, 360 content can be gimmicky, but I think it can work well in some cases. As mentioned before I had to shoot all 360 shots "blind" due to a tech issue, so sometimes the lighting/quality was less than ideal. Thanks for watching and the comment.

I've watched two of your videos ... 2016 and 2017 hikes and honestly I didn't think they could have been done better but ... now you have a camera track that moves as you walk past? Amazing! Maybe even a drone?? I am so surprised you don't have a million viewers. Well, I'm thrilled to be here. Thank you for sharing ... Let's go! ((That snow from inside the tent!!)) Fantastic!!
@Acrossutah6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The panning shots are done with a 360-degree camera on a tripod and then I select the "view" afterwards as I edit. The quality isn't as high as my other cameras, but it makes for a nice effect I think.

Thanks for the reply Jamal, I wish my wall was full of your pictures ... The colors, shapes. textures, sounds .... I love it all. I'm worried about you right now... with that storm coming this way ... maybe you'll get some great footage of the floods to come. I hope you keep enough sun to charge your equipment in case you need help. I'll be waiting for the next update... to see that you are safe up there. With the positioning to the storm ... I think you will be on the bad side of the hurricane. Lots of water ... be safe.

I know this might sound stupid but... from your video, Zion looks much more impressive than the Grand Canyon!
@Acrossutah5 жыл бұрын
It's apples to oranges in a way. The Grand Canyon is amazing, but I think I like Zion more for the variety of geology and ecosystems.

Can you make a video or explain how you keep your feet dry while always hiking through streams and slots?
@Acrossutah6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions (I'm just catching up on replies). I should address this in a future video. If it's a short stretch of water I will do my best to stay dry (even switch to sandals temporarily if needed), but... for longer stretches I will just hike right in the water. I usually wear neoprene socks in these cases. I've found that unless it's near the beginning of a big hike, my feet are usually hardened and thus blisters aren't an issue. Thanks for watching.

Hey, Mr. Shadow is hiking again. Yay!
@WildernessMindset6 жыл бұрын
wow that was some heavy snow! Glad I didn't have to deal with that on the Hayduke. I like the 360 cam, is that the gopro fusion?
@Acrossutah6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the snow was a surprise. Definitely the downside to hiking west-to-east in the spring. I shot the 360 content with the original Samsung Gear360 -- it's been an OK camera, but I'm due for an upgrade. Thanks for watching and the comment.

I hiked all 5 of those parks and didn't know they could be linked. West Rim trail is the best Iv'e been on. I shared campsite 2 with a lone deer. Glad she has found a freind. Nice work on the camera work. Are you using a gimbal for those pan shots?
@geraldhenrickson74726 жыл бұрын
I think he MAY be using his 360 camera and panning in processing but...I am no expert. Looks cool though.
@Acrossutah6 жыл бұрын
Yep, the pan shots are created with a Gear360 camera on a tripod and then "zoomed" in while editing. Unfortunately the app-based viewfinder for the camera died just before the trip, so I had to shoot all 360 shots "blind" and sometimes the lighting was less than ideal. Side note -- I actually bought and took a gimbal with me as well, but only used it a few times and never took advantage of its tracking features (long story, more tech issues).

Sorry you didn't like it. I liked the song at the time, but have since moved to more toned-down music in my videos. Taking another listen the mix also really sounds off now. I've noticed this on other videos which makes me wonder if the KZbin audio compression has changed or something. Not sure, but... I appreciate you for watching and the feedback. 🌞✌
