I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Mr Green and Mr Shadow for taking us along on this lengthy adventure. For weeks now I have been enjoying and anticipating each new episode from your fantastic journey. I even took time out of my own vacation to watch the new episodes from your trek that came out during my trip. You serve as an inspiration to us all. So whether it's a day, 2 weeks, or another 40 plus day adventure we will all be here watching your every step and taking in some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth. Thank you.

Wow Jamal, you can give the top travel shows out there a run for their money. Your episodes are so polished, I think they're almost too good for KZbin. And you're a one man band too. As always, stunning imagery, grade A hosting, and smart editing. Congratulations on a successful marathon hike, and thank you for sharing this with us.

When I was watching that part, I had thought you were referring to my suggestion, but didn't want to assume that that was the case. I loved that you took the time to tell us about how you got started with these long hikes, and I don't know about others, but it made a difference for me to hear you talk about yourself. Warms my heart you took my suggestion. Thank you and big hug. :)

Jamal, it was great! I loved it. And to know that you went through Steven's Canyon just a week behind my crew somehow made your whole hike even more fun for me to watch! Idea: Take that last Google Earth trail flyover, slow it way down, and give us audio commentary of the route - just 5 minutes or so. I kid you not, I think it would be a fun way to bring all of your smaller videos together as a nice recap of sorts. Cheers!

You read my mind! I planned a better version of the flyover for this episode and quickly realized it was going to take too long to make it nice AND that if done right it could be its own little episode. So... I've added that to my To-Do list! Thanks or watching and the comment.

I really enjoyed watching your whole trip. I used to day hike out west near El Paso Texas. Hueco Tanks, The Franklin Mountains, Hidden Spring off Trans Mountain Highway. And I did some day hiking in Michigan as well, Grand Mere State Park, Weko Beach to Warren Dunes State Park beach walk. I never considered backpacking though. I wish I had now. We did do camping a lot, those campsites were the start and end points for my hikes usually. I only got a ride one time on the beach walk at the end of Weko to Warren Dunes. I did that hike barefoot. Its a beach, but that was kind of dumb. Now I am 66 years old, and in this stage of life, I'm kind of deteriorating in health. So looking back, I do regret not doing any backpacking. Your videos are highly inspirational and uplifting. They let me experience some places I have never been, and you do it in a way that makes feel like I am there with you. Thank You for what you do.

Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! For much of my life I was only a day hiker, but once I started doing the big multi-day hikes it became a new passion. One can see most of the great sights in Utah w/o backpacking, but there is an added element of the experience for me to sleep out in the wilderness and then continue hiking w/o turning back. Cheers! 🌞✌

I'm just wondering if you've done the Pacific Crest Trail?
@Acrossutah
@Acrossutah 5 жыл бұрын
Nope. I've hiked a long stretch which included the John Muir Trail plus some extra mileage which totaled 348 miles. See my 2011 video on that hike. I've also done some shorter hikes on other sections in California and Washington, but not much. I'd like to see more of it, but probably won't ever do the whole thing at once as I prefer more moderate long-distance treks. Kudos to those who complete the whole thing though!

I've been enjoying your videos this week after I stumbled onto your channel by accident. However, I picked up a little bit of condescension towards atv riders in this video. As a fellow Utah "wanderer", I use trucks, atv's, my own two legs, and sometimes even horses to enjoy the backcountry of my home state. As such, I don't discriminate against any one particular mode of exploration. That even means bicyclists (which I find are the rudest and most arrogant group of all). In the end, I look at it like all of us are in the same boat. We all are off the couch, away from our devices (vices), and out enjoying nature. Remember, the day will come for all of us who enjoy hiking when we are just too old or too injured to continue that mode of exploration. When that happens, the other motorized forms of travel become the only way for many to keep going. I'm still capable of all modes of exploration for the time being, but I really enjoy riding atvs the most. And Moab is one of the best places in the world to enjoy that type of exploration. I have also hiked all over the area too, so I see both sides of the trail. Sure, there are jerks out there, but that's true for any genre and facet of life. Look at the good majorities in life, and forget the stupid minority. I hope to see you out doing your thing some day. You have my utmost respect, and I am really enjoying your videos. If you ever need help, water, or food, I would be glad to assist you. I am always geared up and loaded to head out into the backcountry at a moment's notice.
@Acrossutah
@Acrossutah 5 жыл бұрын
I agree and no real condescension was meant in this video, but I do see how that is kinda what came across. More than anything I guess my comment here was geared toward how many there are around Moab. However, I *was* very irritated by the ILLEGAL tracks in Indian Creek in the previous video. Unlike many hikers, I'm totally OK with sharing the land which is designated as such. I believe I go into that in more detail in my 2015 video and how many ATVers get a bad rap because of the few that go off-trail. Thx for watching and the comment.
@utahwanderlust700

Jamal Green Thank you for your reply. I agree. Also, I had not seen the 2015 video you referred to when I made my comments above, but I just watched it and I'm glad you feel that way about the ATV jamboree and it's riders. I always slow down and offer hikers on the trails my extra water, Gatorade's, and a bag of Bolts and GU's. I've had people turn down the Bolts and Gu's, but rarely do they turn down the water and Gatorade's.

Wow! I just found your channel this morning...watched many, many videos, of your trek across Utah... in no particular order. Delayed my chores, by quite a bit! Am an avid hiker, but only discovered the opportunities in Utah, last year. Sad, being as I live in SW Colorado!! I hiked Buckskin to Lee's Ferry last year...3 days...that's when I fell in love with Utah. I love all of the segments you have put together and shared...shuttle help required, I know...but more info than you can get from the BLM or Forest Service. You've already got me planning future hikes...but, for this year...it's gonna be Dark Canyon, via Woodenshoe and Peavine. Many Thanks for your time!!

Better than Survivor Man. He did an episode out there in Winter. Inspiring- your trek, the route finding, camera work, over-coming obstacles. Bet it felt good- coming to the Colorado. Did you actually have a GPS that showed up your route including switchbacks on the Google Earth segment? congrats, Jamal, and Happy Trails
@Acrossutah

Thanks! You know... this hike went down Swett Canyon which was actually included in that Survivorman episode! I don't create a GPS track as I hike, but log some specific way-points as I go and then re-create the route after-the-fact (and then plug that into Google Earth.) You can see the final map for this hike on my website at: www.acrossutah.com/wordpress/zion-to-arches-hike-trip-report/

Yesterday was a very sad day because we've watch this last part of your hike. If Jamal did a hike .. it's a family event for us. On weekends me, my wife and my 17 yo son assemble in front of the TV and while we have breakfast we follow you. 1 or 2 parts a day every saturday and sunday morning. We sit petrified when you lost your way and get stuck in a canyon. We laugh everytime Mr. Shadow appears. We realize him even if you don't because he's behind you. I love the american west since I was a child and me and my family travel there whenever we can (from germany). The parks, indian culture and serenity of the wilderness always fancinated us. It takes my breath how you pass by all of my dream destinations .. one by one. Destinations that I know but never reach. I know almost every petroglyph panel and every arch you pass. I know exactly where you are without looking at a map. But still .. I'll never reach most of these destinations. I've seen much over the last 30 years but not the way you do. I'm a family guy and I do familyfriendly trips. But in my dreams I always wanted to do what you do. This is why your channel is so important for me. Jamal, have a great and peaceful christmas and a great 2019. And thank you for your work on your channel. I'll be in the states in april and I can't wait to get back there. I see so many things changing there right now and I hope the american west .. as what it is for me .. will not die.

I've been watching your videos for years and if this is your finale then you out did yourself. Since watching your videos I have to say,when ever I am out in the backcountry I always stop for anyone with a backpack on and give them food and water.My offers have never been turned down,might have to start carrying fruit though. How much weight did you lose on this trip? You looked a bit skinny towards the end.
@Acrossutah
@Acrossutah 6 жыл бұрын
Yep -- I do the same now re: always offering water. I lost 33 pounds on this trip. I tend to lose almost a pound a day on my big hikes. I made it! Time for a burger!... Oh wait. You're the one who made it. Well done! Both the hike and the video series. Thanks for taking the time to edit, share, inform, and entertain. Your vids truly have a nice balance between showing off amazing scenery, providing bits of helpful and educational info, humor, and of course keeping it all in perspective with the tough times. I also appreciate you highlighting the impact society is having on some of our treasured lands and the need for more awareness and better stewardship. And I can relate to the scratches on the lens. I was bummed that my GoPro lens (actually its protector) encountered a few small gashes sometime at the end of my first day out on my most recent multiday trip in Capitol Reef. Next time I'll be sure to pack a few extra lens protectors. Lastly, you obviously have a fondness for the remote desert landscapes of Southern Utah. Will we ever see you changing up the landscape and venturing out for some trips, short or long, through some alpine backcountry environments, such as the Sierras, etc?

Hi Jamal, loved the conclusion to your epic hike, thankyou. Do you ever come across some dangerous critters during your travels, I know it can so.etimes be determined by the time of the year. I've had encounters with Rattlers and in 2002 whilst camping(tent) not RV at Toroweap Overlook had 2 bark scorpions outside the entrance to my bivi tent. Disposed of rapidly too !!
@Acrossutah

Not too many -- guess I'm a loud walker! I've estimated I encounter about 1 rattlesnake for every week I'm out hiking. Otherwise though... I've only seen one scorpion and have yet to see a cougar or bear (while hiking in Utah). Thx for watching and the question. 👍

Hello again Jamal, I've often wondered whether you've ever considered using a drone ? The terrain you travel is so beautiful and could be enhanced with panoramic shots. I'm now an oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire and probably not be visiting my very favourite State of Utah again. Best wishes.
@Acrossutah
@Acrossutah 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry -- I missed the follow-up earlier. I looked into taking a drone with me a while back, but... drones are not allowed (or require a special permit) in much of the area that I hike. Beyond that... they are battery hogs and somewhat cumbersome to carry so I probably won't be packing one on any of my longer hikes anytime soon (I do love the aerial shots from others though.) Cheers!

I mean I will go stretches of several days without seeing a single person, but then I will go through popular areas and see a bunch of other hikers! Thanks for watching.
