Guys, almost every song in this movie has been suggested to you. The one during the semi truck chase scene is "Neutron Dance" by *The Pointer Sisters* , "Stir It Up" by *Patti LaBelle* is playing as he drives downtown Beverly Hills, (her song"New Attitude" is also featured) the song Jordan said was _fire_ is called "Axle F" as in Eddie's character, Axle Foley by *Harold Faltermeyer* , the song "Nasty Girl", playing in the strip club is by one of Prince's groups called *Vanity 6* . Stuffing anything into a tailpipe that completely closes it, blocks the air flow and keeps the engine from running. The guy was "sizing him up" because he found him attractive. That was actor Bronson Pinchot (Pincho) who played Balki on the '80s comedy "Perfect Strangers", and yes, that was Damon Wayans of "My Wife and Kids", "In Living Color" and more. Glad you enjoyed one of my favorites. 🙂 Getting back to a serious movie, try "Duel" starring *Dennis Weaver* . Edge of your seat suspense. I've seen it several times and it still tangles all my emotions and I just want to hug the main character. ☹️

Growing up in the Detroit Metro area, this movie was a Detroit favorite. Couple fun facts.....the guy who plays his boss, Gil Hill, was an actual Detroit Captain (might have been Chief, I cant remember), and was still in the force after the movie. He later was elected to Detroit City council. Also, the t shirt Eddie Murphy wears when he first gets to Beverly Hills says Mumford Athletic Dept, Mumford high school is an actual school in Detroit. This movie definitely did some good advertising for Detroit!! ❤️ ❤️ 🧡

Okay, this movie was originally written for Sylvester Stallone. Sylvester Stallone was not allowed to change the script so, he turned it down. The second choice was Eddie Murphy. But Eddie Murphy had to turn down Ghostbusters in order to do Beverly Hills Cop. In 1984 the two biggest movies were Purple Rain and Beverly Hills Cop. The best selling album was Thriller by Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan had just entered the NBA. 1984 changed America.

In the early 80s Eddie Murphy was known for the f-word in his stand-up (most of which could never fly these days) and his movies. It was surreal to hear someone surprised he talked like that. lol Later he and Steve Martin both did more family movies.

Great soundtrack! The song playing during the opening is by Glenn Frye from the Eagles, when he’s in the back of the semi is by the Pointer Sisters, when he first gets to Beverly Hills is Pattie LaBella. The keyboard theme song is called Axl F, named after Eddie Murphy’s character.

I love action-comedies too. The other movies in this series are good too. Other action-comedy movies that were good enoughnto spawn sequels: Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Red. None of them are flat out comedies like Beverley Hills Cop, but not everyone can be Eddie Murphy. 😁 They definitely have funny moments though, and all the sequels are good too.

Great reaction! I still can't get over the fact that Eddie Murphy was only 21 years old when he starred in this movie; after carrying SNL for 4 years (he was so good that, often, he was in every sketch of some episodes). I was so happy when he returned to host the show in '19, after 35 years where, again, he was in virtually every sketch, including the Weekend Update. If you guys get a chance, can you react to some of his SNL sketches? Keep up the great work!

A banana in the tailpipe was a good way to disable a car. Car engines have to breath. They take in clean air, mix it with gas and burned gasses (Exhaust) comes out the tailpipe. If you plug up the pipe the exhaust will back up and the engine cant run properly. The car stops. A old trick learned back in the streets of Chicago.

It's also the exact reason why a clogged catalytic converter can make a car run poorly.

Mythbusters actually busted this myth. Theoretically you could stall an engine by blocking the tailpipe, but it takes a lot more to get it to stick in place.

Great pick! Enjoyable as always. Glad you liked it. Eddie Murphy’s very first movie was “48 Hrs,” which is really good, too. You should definitely check it out. It’s more dramatic and more violent than this, but he more than holds his own as a dramatic actor. And he still manages to add comedic moments. From his very first scene, he has commanded the screen in every movie he’s ever been in. “Trading Places” should be next and is also very funny. You must watch it before “Coming To America” as it references TP and then you’ll get the joke. Keep up the great work! You guys always make me smile!

So this movie had some scenes that was really hard for the actors to stay in character. The art gallery scene with Serg Eddie had no idea what kind of accent he would be using and he just lost it. You can see in the take they used he keeps licking his lips cause he's desperately trying to keep himself from laughing. In the supercops scene. Billy is turning bright red cause he is pinching himself in the leg trying to stay focused. Taggert is keeping his head down holding his face trying to keep it together. The actor that plays the watch commander in Detroit is a real cop after a short interview and watching him chew someone out the director offered him the role.

When Eddie Murphy was young there was a time when he was the biggest star on the planet. He ended up hosting Saturday Night Live while he was still a working member on the cast of Saturday night live. He had two hour long standup performances. The first was delirious that he did at age 21. The second a few years later was called raw. Both are absolutely hilarious and not kid friendly. Coming to America will still be a good movie 200 years from now. 48 hours, boomerang, trading places and Beverly Hills cop two are classics also. I love your reactions! Right around (or right after) Eddie was a regular on Saturday Night Love is when he started his movie career. While known mostly for that and for his hilarious stand-up shows, and well before he became a staple of wacky comedies like Norbit, The Nutty Professor, and Daddy Day Care, he was one of the top cinematic draws. In fact, other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'm not sure there was a bigger star in the U.S. His first big hit was a cop drama called 48 HRS., and after BHC (which spawned two sequels), he did a mystical comedy drama called The Golden Child, a crime comedy called Harlem Nights (with Richard Pryor), and comedy Coming To America.
