Haha yes a form of mating dance! I worked at a zoo and had one of the female emus bend down on its legs like that whenever I went to say hi, it would kind of swerve it’s head side to side whilst nibbling at my shoes from behind. Eventually if I didn’t get moving or ignore her she would get too excited and start pestering me.

It should be considered that this Emu was in fact a lady. It's the female Emus who're the more active in mating behaviour, it's them who fight among each other over picking males (and then still tend to give the males they pick a hard time at first), and it's then the males, who, after the females lay their eggs very soon, it's the males who'll incubate them, having fattened themselves before, then never to leave the eggs until they hatch, no drinkng, no eating, and to raise the chicks all by themselves - all the while the female Emu won't have anything to do with it, will go her way, live her life, look for new mates. There's more aggressive competitive behaviour in female emus, so this gentleman was probably being 'checked out' indeed.

@@Aodhan_Raith Crocs do have that much bite strength, but hyenas can't turn bones into dust with a bite, they break them sure but not turn them to dust. Bulls can probably knock over lighter cars, but not the the more common cars because they are pretty low to the ground and weigh over a ton. Maybe with some time they could probably do it, but definitely not with one charge. And Emos aren't giant really, they are about as tall as humans, they could puncture thin steel like the ones on cars, But a person can do so as well with a knife or something with enough force. But steel that is an inch or two think hell no, that can block bullets, they can't get thru that.

I think you're right. Emu-coupling is quite Emu-ncipated, with the female doing the courting, females fighting other females over males, and the males incubating the eggs. At first I thought this Emu is being engaged in some sort of intimidation game, but perhaps she's, well, taking an interest.
