It's the cornering a bison I really don't understand. I once accidently cornered a buffalo in the jungle (it was in a mud hole, and we didn't know it was there). It charging us was terrifying, and we were lucky not to be injured. Bison are considerably larger and more aggressive than buffalo.

If you let one bite you, you are guaranteeing that animal control will kill it to dissect its brain. They HAVE to kill them to test if they are positive for the virus. Again, if they bite you, whether they are sick or not, you are condemning them to death AND you are risking rabies exposure.

Yeah the male ones can get very aggressive and territorial towards dogs. They will often try to drown them underwater, that's why it was holding it like that. The news story of this incident said he had already tried submerging it, and was then locked in that death grip battle with the dog. Odds are the dog probably chased the kangaroo on land and it fled into the water to escape. One the dog followed it in, the kangaroo tried to drown it. Kangaroos can be very aggressive and big males are not to be messed with. They come into conflict with dogs fairly often. This is far from a one off.

Roo's are know to drown predators by luring them into bodies of water and drowning them. That dog was toast without his owner.
