It's been typical for younger actresses to be cast in older roles, and Reid (who was a decade older than Hubert) was actually more age appropriate for the role (given Hubert was only 9 years older than Karyn Parsons who played Hillary). I think the real misfortune was how bad the writing was for the Aunt Viv character after Reid took the role, she was reduced to a background character.

In this day in time I have to say that I love how the sisters never had a colorism problem with one another. Neither one brought up the fact that since one was darker or lighter they had it easier. They loved each other. That's it, didn't put the other down for there shade Ashley never was jealous because of Hillary's skin or Hillary never felt less than a black woman they just loved each other.
