I had the pleasure, and I mean pleasure, of seeing her play the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Baltimore Symphony back when she was only seventeen. Yes, she's beautiful, but she also had a great stage presence. While waiting to play and listening to the orchestra, she smiled and rolled her head gently to the music, sometimes looking back to the musicians. It was quite enchanting.

Hilary is simply the most amazing violinist ever. She is seemingly incapable of playing out of tune. Her Tchaikovsky concerto recorded with the Royal Liverpool orchestra, just makes me cry, it's just so beautiful.

She simply surprided her public in Berlin again with a wonderful interpretation of the Beethoven's Violin Concert D-Dur at the Philharmonic Hall, May17th2015. Five long ovations she thanked with 3 minutes Bach's music.

I just saw her in concert at SUNY Purchase in NY. She is that good! Nowadays everyone is a "superstar" this young woman really is as good as people say she is. I found her to be, if you can believe this, even better in person than she is on her CDs and videos. I highly recommend seeing her in person.

Watch from 3:57 to 4:15 -- you'll never see a more beautiful bow-arm than that in your life. I sat up close in a recital in LA about 6 years ago and couldn't believe the way her left-hand moves... invisible shifts, infinite shades of control in her vibrato. She really is one of the greats, on a par w/ Milstein and Menuhin.

I sat up close at a recital about 7 years ago in LA, and it was unbelievable - her infinite shades & complete control over vibrato, her invisible shifts, gorgeous tone, and "just right" interpretations. She's definitely one of the greats, on a par with Milstein and Menuhin. The fact that she's a hottie is just a bonus.

Hilary Hahn presents music in the purest form, without much superfluous "added flavor" . Music is opened to interpretations, and what she offers to the audience is the essence and the distilled form of music. Her playing is not fake and fluff like some violinists... In my opinion, Hahn is very similar to Heifetz. people don't find his music appealing, especially on the slow pieces (saying it's too fast, impersonal, cold, etc.)

Bach isn't easy; his music is actually quite difficult, but the difficulty comes in other forms: for his slow music, being able to get across the emotion and character without it dragging or sounding clunky; and the fast music is hard in most of the usual ways, such as phrasing, agility, and cleanliness. I'm quite thrilled that she loves Bach as much as she does! She's a remarkable performer and it's a privilege to hear her playing the master's works.

I have seen Hilary is several performances. I have seen them all, from Mutter to Perlman...to Bell. I have subscription to the NY Phil. Anyway, I can attest that in person, there is NO better artist. She is magnificent. She plays clearly, passionately, and is without equal. Her videos don't do her justice. She commands the crowd, and her playing is beyond flawless. She makes most of the notables look incompetent. Her Bach is world class.

@angelishify If you have ever played the violin seriously, you would have to know that it is a very demanding instrument. Only the most disciplined and hardened personality can bring music out this piece of wood and four slender strings. You will see this kind of discipline, what some call "coldness" in many great violinists - Heifetz comes to mind. Just close your eyes and listen to the music - there is no coldness there at all, but that beauty comes only at the price of unflinching dedication.

Yes, her bach is exquisite! It's so clean and clear. But for myself, that's all i hear from her. Hilary Hahn, to me, is a 'safe' violinist. She doesn't take risks (sort of like she's trying to please everyone out there). Take Vengerov or Chang for example: they take risks in their playing and are very passionate...and in reality, people either hate them or love them. For Hilary, it seems as if EVERYONE just likes her (of couse...some people do love her).

I'm wondering if this is the same Hilary who was concertmaster of the Youth Music Monterey Honors Orchestra around about 1997 or 1998? I remember a piano/violin/cello concerto that was performed back then by this orchestra, back when I was still in the lower orchestra, the YMM non-honors orchestra.

Actually, I think it is a different Hilary. I seem to recall that the Hilary I am thinking of had a last name of "Brewer" or something like that. She was concertmaster the year before I was admitted to that orchestra.

Answer to FretMunky88: In what we call classical music, there were always composers and interprets. Interprets of the time of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, ... are almost completely forgotten. Today's composers are not widely known yet and you enjoy the interprets of music written more than a century ago. As in many arts, contemporary creators are seldom recognized while alive.

I heard play Paganini violin concerto No. 1... NOW THAT WAS IMPRESSIVE!!! It was perfect... this piece is fantastic but doesn't show everything she can do. See her play Paganini, and she will blow you away with her perfection...
