I really wish she would record it, her playing doesn't get better than what it is. Just beautiful!

I've been listening to this since at least the mid-'80s, and own several recorded performances (IMO it's one of the greatest violin concerti of the 2th century). I've listened to this twice in two days. I believe it is the best performance I've heard. Hahn is spot on pitch with every note, and imparts great energy to the music without undermining its emotional power. I wish she had kept it in her regular repertory, and recorded it.

I am SO GLAD that this exists. I first heard this piece played by Hilary Hahn while attending a rehearsal of the Curtis Orchestra in what must have been 2008? And ever since I have yet to encounter any recording that compares to that day, yet the memory of her playing this piece was etched in my brain --the way she digs in to every dissonant double stop with unyielding resonance to make the weightiest moments absolutely profound, only to take flight seconds later- weightlessly dancing on top of perfectly internalized metronome markings (she restarted the 2nd movement numerous times at the Curtis rehearsal to insist that anything less than the tempo marked would be unacceptable)-- as is her gift of unlocking the rich emotional content of a piece of music through her technical mastery that honestly has no equal this side of the 21st century

I would also include the 20th century. A musician like this comes around but once every hundred or so years.

2nd best interpretation of the Britten ever. Best being Janine. But this comes really close. And Paavo Jarvi of course the best to conduct this. wonderful concerto.

Such a joy to hear this. Hilary Hahn, your playing is simply wonderful. I know that you work hard to reach your standard. And I have to say awesome job to the orchestra, also.

Nunca había escuchado este concierto con tanta fuerza dramática, con tal intensidad y profundizando tanto en las intenciones probables de Britten. Un gran aplauso.

Yes! Thanks for another great recording. She brings such a refreshing sound to this piece. Are you a particularly big fan of Hilary's to have these obscure recordings of her concerts?

The performances were the 13th and 14h of October, 2006. Which performance was broadcast, I can't find, but it could have been Friday the 13th! I too wish she had recorded it, even though there's no lack of terrific performances on KZbin. (Hadelich, Fischer and Jansen are all standouts, and I haven't gotten to Baeva, Frang, Zimmerman or Vengerov. I think Hilary got there a decade too early, before the piece had snuck into the repertory (almost.)

Thank you for posting this. A great performance. The excellent conductor is NOT Paavo Järvi in this performance, but André Boreyko as the announcer says.

What do you mean by power?

It's because of her bowing ..... She doesn't now like so many violinist ..... She mostly focused on her vibrato and dynamic .....

Her performance was good but it is not as good as ida's interpretation Ida's interpretation of britten and Walton violin concerto is absolute perfection, literally no one can overtake her interpretation ; even Benjamin britten himself complimented ida for her performance
@josecampos3784 жыл бұрын
How can you really compare old recordings, with new ones. The sound is totally different!!
@Ishsa4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t knock you for having a preference, but why would you come here to say it? At least if you compare the two it would be good to say what you like about both performances. Imagine if I came to your recital and told everybody about how I prefer Hilary Hahn’s playing to yours. That would be very poor manners, even if it were true.
@mrmatt244 жыл бұрын
Hilary has aspects of her playing that Ida didn't, and Ida had aspects that Hilary doesn't. If you like what Hilary uniquely offers, then this recording is hard to beat. I always appreciate Hilary's precision and clarity. You can hear the frequency of every note with beautiful tone. What do you like about Ida's recording? Also a fantastic recording of this is Vilde Frang's.

@@emmyyang4339 but they don’t have to say it like that. It’s kinda rude Imagine if you uploaded you playing on KZbin and someone commented “I prefer Hilary Hahn’s” that would be a little mean
