She is one of the amazing prodigies who achieved greatness at a very young age but has continued to improve to this day. At any point in her career you would say "how can anyone play better than this?". And yet she does - even if she was technically perfect years ago, the density of expression in her playing now is unsurpassed by anything I've ever heard. And still so humble and human. Such an inspiration - she gives me hope for humanity.

For all the non string players out there, the most impressive thing is not the speed or even the articulation. It's how it doesn't sound like she makes a single shift or string change. If you listen on Spotify, the rapid alternating notes almost sound like they're played on the same string, in the same position. Today, Hilary is simply a goddess, no questions asked. As far as violinists are concerned, she's up there with Michael Jackson. But watching godling Hilary, who hasn't yet reached her final form, you realize just what a phenomenal talent she is. This is a standard many seasoned soloists today aspire to. It's just disgustingly good. And she's still improving. My adult beginner self could never.

Aaaah, an absolute goddess in her infancy. No, you never will play this piece this brilliantly, but she is on another level, even among virtuosi. That is no reason not to practice the piece, and live with it, and love it, and reach a certain level of fluency in it. Having followed Ms Hahn's career for many years now, I can't imagine she would want her performances to be the reason anyone deprived themselves of the joy of an intimate relationship with great music. The idea is to spread the joy of music.

I love listening to Hahn play ANYTHING Bach. I would say she's obviously one of the best in the world. But I have more of a question than a criticism; does anyone else feel that ALL of these world class violinists play these Bach allegros more like prestos? I take almost any "allegro" from Bach, played by these great world class players, play back at .75 speed, and THEN it sounds like an allegro not a presto. Even though Bach prestos are extremely difficult to play on almost any instrument at this level, they do certainly maintain their personality and expression at those speeds, like above 160, 168+, but that's also not truly one click per 4/16ths. Is that even important? And then again baroque composers did not have the usage of the types of metronomes the music community in general decided to adhere to years later. They're just written differently. They're phrased different and have different repeating cannons and cadences. A presto clearly works at those higher speeds. Even at the LOWER accepted speeds of a presto, I can see why they're playing a Bach allegro that way--that seems to work fine. But they're playing these at speeds WAY deep into presto territory and I just wonder about the execution of that altering the possible intended interpretation. I guess I need now to consult more violinists about this. I'd like to see if anyone comments here, and either can set me straight on it or maybe even agree. ~JSV
