there are very few violinists in the world that could match the technical perfection and depth of interpretation at the peak of their careers and she did this at 14. And yet she has continued to mature and grow and go deeper with every year. You see her performances as a teenager of some of the most difficult virtuoso pieces ever created and you think how can she get any better than that. But when you listen to her play a Bach adagio as a mature woman and break into tears on the first gripping chords you realise how amazingly fortunate you are to be able to witness the evolution of one of the greatest artists to ever pick up a violin.

Funny! For what it's worth, there's a good argument to be made that she's the best living violinist, and one of the five or so best of whom we have recordings. That's controversial, of course. But I rank her with Oistrakh, Heifetz, Kreisler, and Huberman in a group above everyone else. Then come the other greats: Milstein, Menuhin, Chang, Szeryng, Perlman, Vengerov, Stern, Grumiaux, Jansen, Hadelich, Busch, Szigeti, and so on, and in no particular order.

Technically always perfect, but I don't see (or hear) much musicality in HH. I give her a 10 for technique and a 7.5 for musicality. Musicality can't be taught. If I compare to Himari Yoshimura (much younger, now 13): I give her a 10 for technique and a 10 as well for musicality.
@Vesperas_Ай бұрын
To proclaim Hahn isn't musical is downright ignorant. Hahn's Bach is superb and she's demonstrated both her technical and musical abilities countless times. As for this video, there simply isn't enough context to reasonably judge it, much less make comparisons.
@jansnauwaert1785Ай бұрын
@@Vesperas_ Well, well, ignorant, huh? No, she is musically not really top. I think my score of 7.5 is pretty accurate. Of course, she can dazzle with her virtuosity.
@alexandreboyenval3140Ай бұрын
I Think your score of 7,5 is pretty inaccurate. But people claims the same « lack of musicality » for Heifetz, so, maybe it’s a compliment after all…
@jansnauwaert1785Ай бұрын
@@alexandreboyenval3140 You are entitled to think so. I think it is accurate. I would only marginally count HH with the greats. Heifetz is a great, although I don't like very much his playing. There is no denying though that such assessments are to some (or even large) degree subjective.
@Tripod-ld4qvАй бұрын
I used to think teenage HH was at the same prodigy level as people like himari and Chloe but after watching videos it's clear that is not the case. Compare to himari today and Chloe's ysaye 3 at 14. Of course now HH is much better but not at 14
