I watched Hilda as soon as it premiered on Netflix & loved every minute of it. It's kind of a shame not more people know about this show. Especially cause while this show sorta flew under the cartoon community's radar, a mediocre show like She-Ra had everyone's attention for months before and after it premiered in November.

Can we talk about how Hilda’s mom is a graphic designer and in one episode suffered from artist block🤩🤩 it makes me so happy to see an artist in an animated show because it rarely happens☺️😊😊

So Netflix would rather push a show with an 80s cartoon skin and was made to push an agenda rather than an actual light-hearted kids cartoon? Criticism aside, I feel like I can relate to the show in my own way because my family used to travel a lot when I was younger, I experienced culture shock a few times, and like David I was also a shy boy. I do love the art style and the supernatural aspect it has (I love things supernatural). So I think I might give this show a try. Thank you for suggesting it.

I loved Hilda, it is easily my favorite western animated series since Avatar The Last Airbender. And funny you mention the whole word of mouth thing, I didn't know this series even existed until one day me and my brother where looking through Netflix and saw it listed in our "recommended" section (which is usually just a cluster of random unrelated shows that seemed more determined by what Netflix wants us to watch rather than what is similar to our taste in series, which is usually just anime). It looked like a harmless little kids show and we didn't find anything more interesting to watch, so we checked out the first few episodes, and where completely blown away by just how clever and sharp the writing was. Not just in the small details like the world building, but also the jokes that completely catch you off guard. Hilda is a great lead with her adventurous spirit and can-do attitude, but struggles with the every day norms of living in a city. David and Freda at first felt like very bland and uninteresting (especially Freda with her "Perfect at everything" characterization) but they quickly grew on me with David showing true bravery when it comes to his friends and Freda growing as her "Perfect" persona started to fall away. But of course the person who stole every scene he was in was easily Alpha. He just had some of the best lines in the entire series (next to Woodman). "Every contract has that stipulation. It's a clause of something that will never happen. It's like saying 'When Cows fly'." "You mean 'When Pigs Fly'." "Oh no. That occurs with some regularity."

Hilda is Netflix's best effort for me, personally. And I can only hope more people give it a chance, especially since Season 2 is coming next year. All I can say to that is BRING. IT. ON. And may it be just as good, if not better, than what we've gotten so far, IMHO.

I found it by someone saying it in passing while criticising another show...I think it was High Guardian Spice because of the similar art style and that whole "magical/mythical" feel. The show is doing better than a lot of shows and it doesn't even get advertisements. It literally has no choice but stand on its own, not even cleverly edited advertisements and previews are helping, much less journalists and twitter. Which is how it should be, if your show can't stand by itself without journalists shoving it in your face then you probably shouldn't publish it yet.

I agree, it’s a really good show! I love these types of whimsical natured shows and the warm atmosphere that comes with it. One thing I’d recommend for you two (the hosts) is using talk sprites to represent who’s talking when because I think you guys talk very similar and at times, it’s difficult to understand which of you is talking.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Hilda was voiced by Bella Ramsay. My introduction to her as an actress was Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones Season 6. At times I jokingly imagine Hilda saying, "Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North, whose name is Stark."

I have seen it come up on Netflix but have been hesitant to check it out. It's a nice change of pace, hearing you guys talk about a good show with some flaws for once. I do like what I see. As you said, the animation is fluid and consistent, unlike some shows I could name. Gravity falls also had fluidity and consistency, and I'm not a big fan of the calarts style, but I'm willing to look past it for a good show.

The color palette reminds me of the original Technicolor Two-color Process films of early animation. It's an interesting take; it is not bright and colorful like most cartoons. It's more subtle because really vibrant colors do not seem to be represented.

Love this show! Glad to hear others enjoy it to. Found out about it via the KZbinr Cellspex, i think that's her channel name, and a friend. Look forward to season 2. I actually liked it more than Gravity Falls. I like parts of Gravity Falls, but can't stand Mabel or the overall cynicism of the show, or how morally grey everything is in that show. I love the more wholesome and charming feel of Hilda. It almost has a Fred Rodgers and the land of make believe feel to it.

Some clairvoyance from the future (as this video was published in 2019), but I finished all of the currently available episodes of Hilda recently; Netflix still does not greatly promote the show, only seeming to come up if you seek out other cartoons on the platform already. Truly an underrated gem and a welcome adventure for one who avidly watched Gravity Falls during its original run.

I enjoyed the art style and world and the characters, but it is really frustrating that the show doesn't often call Hilda out on her poor decisions. Like, her mother especially. This lady (while experiencing financial troubles no less) has wrecked her car, broke the law in plain sight, been cursed, and been lied to by her daughter. I don't recall much disciplinary action, but I do recall some strong "its the right thing to do" sentiments. Sure, there's a dog that's literally throwing up people being harbored in your house, but he's totally not THAT dangerous and getting him free is the right thing. I want to like the series more, but that bit is just makes me too angry. And the dog wasn't even that important! They built it up like its some significant thing, but nope, he's just lost. The elves are really fun, though.

'Hilda' is the most magnificent animated series NETFLIX has ever presented. It's up there with 'Voltron: Legendary Defender', and 'Race...Dragon'. But nobody knew 'Hilda was on because of 'She-Ra and the Princesses of Power'. Why not? Why push something bad and not promote something better? I don't get it.
@Samaru1635 жыл бұрын
I love the show for many of the same reasons you guys do, so to make this comment relevant, I'll say what I disslike about Hilda. There are two things that bug me the most about Hilda: the human characters, and the fact that, despite the main conflict of the show being Hilda moving to Trollberg, most episodes gloss over her adjusting to the city. We never even get to see her first day at school, which I feel was a huge wasted opportunity, as the concept of going to classrooms to learn things not "relevant" to the natural world would be alien to someone like Hilda. As for the human characters, they're not bad, but I felt they all were pretty flat. Frieda is my least favourite because of how she is handled in the later half of the show (she gets REALLY spoiled and bitchy and, as you said, never apologizes for it). But I loved the magical creatures, the episode two left me so emotional, and I can't wait for the next season.

Is not She-ra fault that Hilda went underground... Netflix doesn't have to choose just one serie to advertise at time...
