Something that in my opinion is heavily underrated about these quests is that while mostly comedic they do have a layer of genuine sentimentality that works behind all the funny. Without spoiling of course but things like finding one's place to belong, the risks and lengths of revenge amongst other things are still in full force underneath all the wackiness which give genuine payoffs at the questline's end. It's why beside you as the WoL, Hildibrand and Nashu's antics always end up dragging someone with them. This person mostly acting as the straight man against the madness but at the very end learns to embrace some of this peppiness and end up growing in their outlooks on life. Hildibrand may be a terrible detective but his big heart does manage to genuinely touch the people he meets and making them grow better for it.

My initial impression of Hildebrand was a "What... what the heck am I watching!? WTF is this!?" but as I realized this was a literal kids cartoon comedy type storyline I was chill with it, More than that, actually. For those of us who love Hildebrand, it's like a Rite of passage to pass it onto other players. Sometimes, it's done by being told "this is silly, don't take it too seriously" and other times the quest is left a mystery. And yeah, I can definitely see how his quests can be a make or break for some people, but even if you don't like the story, the Trials and emotes really are worth it in my opinion. The Manderville Mambo is just an amazingly silly dance. And hey, we get to see Briarden in another offshoot - the Scholastic questline of Heavens' Ward where we get to see him without Hildebrand's brand of silly. At least the Hero's Gauntlet lets me know pretty firmly that the Gentleman of Light is good.

Honestly I love it. Pay attention to your player character throughout each quest. They are incredibly confused for the ARR quests and by the time of the Heavensward quests, they've come to accept the insanity and just go with the flow, much to the confusion one of the other supporting characters Cyr.

One accidental piece of lore that was introduced in Endwalker recontextualizes some stuff from the Hildibrand quests in an interesting way, Limit breaks are Dynamis. Godbert is able to perform Goldsmith limit breaks because he has such intense passion for the craft. If you think about it the entire Manderville family seems to possibly be dynamis prodigies. Hildi should have died many times over but he cant be kept down because of his passion and confidence so just as overwhelming negative dynamis can kill the strong positive dynamis Hildi has for himself and Nashu has for him he is able to survive no matter what

The 1.0 scenes had me in nostalgic giggles. I played back then too. He and Nashu were introduced originally just to open access to the inns, but when the devs responsible discovered how popular he'd been for that, they rushed into Yoshi-P's office, as we were told then, to tell him that. I was actually p'd off in ShB that he wasn't doing anything stupid and with every live letter I was able to watch, I'd have one persistent question: Where is Hildebrand? He is a fool, but he's our fool, a staple from 1.0, a necessary break from the seriousness of endgame content and grinding for other things. He's the necessary prescription for a bad day irl, something to lose yourself in and laugh at. I even have footage on my own channel of him in 1.0 during one of our 2 summer events. The devs had made sure to include him in it. I made sure to record that at least. Nashu seems to have an endless supply of ordnance and I don't want to know where she keeps it since they are pretty hefty bombs at that.

Hildi has those Inspector Gadget vibes - goofy, wacky, maybe not so many gadgets but a lot of heart. Maybe some 60s Batman and a bit of Pink Panther's Inspector Clouseau with a sprinkle of Mr Magoo. It is also comedy popular in Japan which may play odd to western audiences. Taken in small chunks his quests are a nice breath of fresh air from the doom and gloom. It almost always has more lore beats to open up and some of the best trials along the way. The HW arc also opens up another quest line involving Inspector Briardien and some Scooby Doo level antics but some serious beats too. It unearths more lore for what happens after the Dragonsong war ends. I can't wait for 6.1.5

If you don't do the Hildibrand quests, you're missing out on a major story piece: Hildibrand is so strong, he was told by SE to stick to sidequests only. That's why the Ascians go after the Scions instead. Had Hildy got involved in MSQ, we would never have any expansions after ARR. Now imagine if Godbert & his wife met Lalabrea for the first time

I thought he was weird at first, but I really missed that relative relaxation session with Hildibrand after all of Shadowbringers was said and done. Really glad that they're bringing him back. If there's any story where Hildibrand is needed to take the edge off, Endwalker is 100% that.

I got my brother and two cousins into FF14 on the Free Trial, we just wrapped up ARR's base story a few months ago, and when we did I asked if we wanted to step back and take a break from MSQ to work on side content: Unlocking dungeons, doing relic grinds, alternative jobs, etc. My cousin asked about Hildibrand and if he was available this early in the game, and my face lit up. My cousins had only loosely followed FF14 stuff because they weren't playing it, but now that they were the first thing they asked about was Hildibrand. You can bet my answer was the obvious "Of course!"

You hit the nail on the head, Hildebrand offers a respite in drama for some old fashioned wacky comedy. It stands out from the generic adventuring of ARR and you're left wondering if a mistake has been made. but you've unlocked emotes and three trials, so it's got to be right, right? It happened. Then in all the heavy drama of Heavensward, there's Hildebrand offering a hilarious and yet heartwarming aside and there's a new NPC along for the ride that has the same raw uninitiated perspective we once had in more innocent pre-Hildy days. And Stormblood, my gods, the triumph and tragedy and all the stress at the end needs some kind of release, and there's Nashu, hanging out in Kugane offering just that.

I am deeply disappointed I cannot suplex Doomtrain. LET ME SUPLEX THE TRAIN! By "Me" I mean "Us", the Monks. We need one glourous move that rivals that of the really really flashy ones the others have...we just punch the thing really really hard........not fun.....and they taught us with displaying Suplexes all the time T^T.

Hildibrand is by far my favourite questline of the ffxiv series. I'll admit I was disappointed there was no Hildibrand story during Shadowbringers, but the recent Endwalker continuation was worth the wait. I especially love the interactions my WoL has with him as she gets sucked into the whacky antics to help Hildibrand out. I also absolutely admire his mother too as the fiercely strong 'culinarian' she is & wholeheartedly believe she could take on army of primals wielding only a frying pan.

My theory is that the mandervilles are dynamis personified, thus explaining their ability to break physical limits of reality. Hildebrand intense luck may be a channeling of dynamis to will the situation to favor him. If Elidibus can channel the power of dynamis ( despite mainly being aetheric) , clearly our boy can channel it at will.

The recent 6.1 trailer attempts to debunk my head canon that Godbert is secretly Byregot reincarnated and Hildy is a god / demigod. But, like all of the other misdirection theyve thrown at us like summoning always being a bad pure evil thing, in my heart of hearts the mandervilles will always be reincarnations of the twelve.

The animators probably love breaking the models in various ways with these quests. seriously though the guy really does have his heart set in the right place, as does the rest of his family ,they're odd people but good people, and things work out in the end.

I heard that Gilgamesh existed in Final Fantasy 14 when I picked up the game I set goals on what I wanted because this is an MMO and if you don't have goals and you try to do everything you're just going to burn yourself out. When looking into the manor on how the unlock a Gilgamesh mission I figured out I had to do the Hildebrandt missions. At first I just didn't really care but then the more I kept playing the more I loved it. The crazy wacky Antics the facial expressions and just some of the lines🤣 And then Gilgamesh shows up and not your cheap knockoff Gilgamesh this was the true Gilgamesh. If it wasn't for hildebrandt's questline I would not have figured out about Armor class, Fusion items, and just having fun and not treating this like every average MMO. And this is coming from a Dragoon player and we're going to take things a bit too serious so go on out there and just do a few of his quest once in awhile when you feel like things are stagnated and you just need a good chuckle. The end result might surprise you

I enjoyed the Hildibrand quest lines as nice and funny distraction from MSQ.

Hildy and Nashu are great! Remind me of Inspector Gadget and Penny, but only if Penny was completely insane! 🤣

Not going to lie, I stumbled into Hildibrand by accident. I just saw the blue exclamation point, and thought it was to unlock another dungeon/trial. That being said, I really enjoyed the quest lines. Reminded me of old G-mod videos I used to watch. Though, I will admit the ARR Hildibrand quests started to drag on for me(like most of ARR.) It's not bad, but I prefer the pacing of the later ones.

I have actually been enjoying his storyline. I’m pretty sure I’ve completed all I can for right now. I beat the main story, but I don’t know exactly if I’m stuck on playing where I’m at right now or am I actually able to go to another area for the expansions, or do I have to play each expansion one by one

Hildebrand is the step out of seriousness I believe a lot of big games need nowadays. There are some games which can add a bit of humour through choices or voice lines which kind of helps but having something that's not wholly focused on the goings on in the main story really helps grounds you and brings to light other things to enjoy. Hildebrand at the start was also a catalyst to help the devs see how far they can go with the game's facial animations (usually leaving the over the top face poses you see Hildebrand do, probably as it helps with the ridiculousness of the story) and how they can mess with the camera; especially earlier on with 1.X and 2.X. Honestly without Hildebrand there probably would be less "funny" and serious tones in the later MSQ, like the nutkin hiding Thancred's privates during the 3.X story; or the joke on Urianger's dress sense when he returns to Garlemald in Endwalker. The devs probably have gotten from the Hildebrand story, that they don't always have to be completely stern with us and it makes the storytelling a little more relaxed but not in a detrimental sense. Heck him sometimes appearing in the Heroes Guantlet as a easter egg of sorts just cements that they don't mind showing the silliness in such a serious dungeon.
