The main antagonist in the HW arc of the Astrologian storyline is actually still in the Sharlayan forum during EW. If you watch closely during scenes where the entire forum is present, he ALWAYS votes against us.

Not surprised, Selvester was defeated at our hands at the end of the 50 to 60 questline so we are his most hated enemy and he hates what we stand for. He might try to get us, the twins and the rest of the Scions killed one of these days. He's tried before; he can try again.

Selvester's attitude towards Eorzea and it's people is very similar to Garlemald's view on Eorzea. The people of Eorzea in their eyes are nothing more then savages and barbarians. Selvester likely would have approved the Meteor Project destroying Eorzea.

You should do more stuff like this for lesser known stories of villains and whatnot. One I particularly like is the story of Lowdy, the widow in the 3.X quests who attempts to prolong the war against the dragons. Her fate is finally elaborated on in the Stormblood Dark Knight questline.

I think the sidelining of these antagonists has a LOT to do with FFXIV's narrative shift from National and International politics to a more cosmic PoV beginning with Shadowbringers. The 14 plotline from ARR to Stormblood is really about the various nations grappling with their politics, factions, and mechanisms while living in a world of magic and gods. Shadowbringers, while great, has begun a trend (that is hopefully closed off by Endwallker) of focusing on the more fantastical elements of 14's universe and putting politics to the side. With our world seemingly saved and the devs hinting a sort of reset, I hope we get back to more Political stories.

Fully agreed. They added a level of intrigue to the story that really took you by surprise. Like you, I'm hopeful for more stories like the ones of old in ARR, HW and SB. The next decade is gonna be something else!

I think we will go back to national/international politics for 7.0. But since we don't need to deal with Garlemald anymore, nor the Ascians, the story boarding crew is working tirelessly on coming up with new big bads (and yes, FF14 was not the only FF game where the final boss was not really the main villain of the story - and also not the only FF game where the final surprise boss was revealed very late in the game). All we know for sure is that we're probably done with the Three Major Continents for a while, and we've got more adventuring to do. Where will we end up? Meracydia and the New World both look promising. The 13th? We'll probably make more excursions there later (I do NOT think 7.0 will be primarily fought in the 13th, though I do think we'll spend an eventual full expansion there eventually, maybe in 9.0 or 10.0). I honestly think that our current mini-excursions to the 13th are giving us an early sample of what the main overarching struggle will eventually be in the next overarching story arc, but for now, they're just kinda filler stuff. I mean, there have been so many hints pointing to the 13th as a place we'll almost definitely spend a full expansion there eventually... most likely the very final expansion in the game. Honestly, IIRC, 6.1 or 7.0 is supposed to be kinda a "new beginning area" for players who join in 7.0 and beyond (because, honestly, having to start out at 2.0 is already quite a long story). This is part of the reason for the Unending Codex - so that we can have a digest of the lore and main characters from the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga. The 6.1 through 6.5 story really is more of a collection of mini-adventures to help fill the gap between two major over-arching story arcs (and to think, 6.0 almost was an expansion focused exclusively on Garlemald, with the conclusion to the story coming in 7.0 instead). The story right now could go anywhere - and that's what's fun about it. It's almost as if we're starting FF 14-2. Being between major overarching story arcs is a big reason why so many content creators are stepping away from FF14 at the moment. It's not that they don't still enjoy the game - they still very much do - but it's the perfect time right now to step away from the game if you so desire. It's not just a break in the story between patches - it was the end of an overarching arc that spanned a decade. And so if you want to just put the game away for a while so that you're ready emotionally for the beginning of the sequel, that's probably not a bad idea. Also, if you've been away for a while, it's the perfect time to jump back in and catch up! Queue time is very low, mentors are chilling waiting for sprouts and returners, and most people who are caught up are pretty much just either chilling in limsa, running daily frontlines, or working on their island farms. Or grinding tomestones to be able to buy more Manderville weapons.

@@powerofk There are so many great points here! Amazing writeup! Your idea has had me pondering what 7.0 could look like later after its release. We suddenly find ourselves on the world stage with all the nations now in proper communication. We end up becoming a symbol of that peace as well, like we did for Eorzea, and also having to be the ones to defend it.

Personaly, did i hope that whe will go back to be a more normal advanture to 7.0 in a new area. Where whe meet than new people. Practicly, like the start of ARR. The scions disbanded. It is ok, when they will show up as guest in future storys. But, they shouldnt be the main companions anymore. Most of them has new Jobs and things to do. It didnt feel right, if whe are again so long with them. To the other side, is it very important, what exactly is happening with the events of the World of darkness. And, to what it will lead us.

You can't go back to what was. There's no more political stuff to do for a murderous rampaging Sellsword like the Warrior of Light. The Garlemand Empire is no more, and everything's been fixed and unified. At most, it'd be if Meracydia would prove to be extremely hostile but, that'd just mean more dragons and.. No.. I don't wanna fight more Dragons. I hated Heavensward.. Felt like it was dragging on forever.. I enjoyed Stormblood, but for some reason people apparently hated that expansion. Shadowbringers tricked me massively so I have a hate / like relationship to that, and Endwalker was great but very flawed ( _they never dare, to take the serious steps in the story_ ). Ultimately I wish they'd not bother with this story at all. This should had been a single player game, not an MMO. In short, all we have now is to keep shard-jumping to slay all Zodiark-variations on the other Moons ( _because trust me, while Zodiark was a big Zeromus reference, we will almost most certainly fight actual Zeromus on the 13th Shard_ ) or whatever, and in the end we will fulfill the Ascian's dream of a rejoining but in a peaceful way that doesn't kill people. That much, is guaranteed. Also.... I really really hated the Scions and I utterly loathed the start of ARR. I hope we do not go back to that time where it felt like we had rival Adventuring Groups that did the same " content " as us in a very weird meta-sense.

I loved doing the lvl 50 Chef quest after the poisoning event of ARR. It really made no sense at that point having Nanamo eat my cooking together with lolorito but it felt funny because of how pissed lolorito was about it. It was as if he had to wake her up preemptively to HW just to uphold some political sharade and then put her back to sleep again afterwards.

tbh it seems that all quests take place within time bubbles for their respective expansion, hence why character's you meet later on don't recognize you when you go back and do older content, e.g. estinian in the lv 30-50 dragoon quest

I started doing all sorts of stories besides side story. So far the only story I never imagined to make me cry is the alchemist job quests... it was especially bad cause i just watched the video about the original story with the old accident in Uldah that was part of the original FF intro. Then there are some pretty neat side quests in ever region that are yellow quests with a bit of a plit, but one really needs to do a bunch of them before you can find the good ones.

5:30 - I feel like once we cured tempering, we kind of glossed over the fact that a LOT of people were needlessly killed because we developed the cure a little too late for them, had they not just been imprisoned for a while or something rather than being immediately killed. I'm sort of surprised some character never called out the guilt that someone who executed those people would probably feel for having done so.... can you imagine you execute a group of tempered citizens and literally the very next day an excited elezen kid approaches you saying "hey we can cure them now, where are they being held again...?"

Teledji.... While he can be found in Palace of the Dead, I don't recall seeing him in the EW lvl 89 dungeon, perhaps after his butt was kicked in PotD he went to rest?? Either way I hope next time I do PotD I can encounter him and others and get hopefully screenshots. ( I know of someone who RPs him, they made a comic about him and how he survived by escaping from the Palace and such, pretty good. I've taken the HCs of them and added to my own. I like the idea he's just out there making a change for himself, similar to another who RPs Amon. =} )

I'd argue he's a great antagonist, always actively challenging the ideals of Nanamo, Raubahn and even the Scions. AKA antagonizing them. What he's not is a plainly evil villain. He is all about making a profit and views stability and status quo as better for profits. He can be reasoned with if you can prove to him that he stands to profit overall and for the long term.
