I was playing around with my new one in the garage and with no weight on it, when released, it would fall. You were the first video that explained that free fall will occur with no weight on it; but with weight on it then you can walk it down.

Ah my old nemesis, the highlift jack. Made right up the road from me and a prerequisite for all the Jeep jamborees .... Mine beat me up pretty bad once but got me home more than a few times 😃

A lot of people have been hurt with this type of Jack. Quite a few of my Jeeper friends carry them. I stick with something lighter and safer.

These things work great for popping out street sign posts that are bent or damaged. Bolt a temporary 4' piece of sign post with a couple 1/4" bolts to the damaged post to give you a jacking point and crank the damaged post out of the ground easy as a cake.

Hi Alan! The funny thing is some people call them widow makers, because if you don't push the arm all the way down and let it go it will swing up and hit you right under the chin really hard! Lol. It's not funny but if you see it happen you want to laugh! 😂. Thanks!!!

A can of WD-40 belongs right next to this jack at all times. Water works in a pinch, but just keep a can of lube next to it and you'll never regret it.

Everett - Excellent Point! The problem with grease is it becomes caked or stiff, WD-40 will lubricate and eventually evaporate without leaving crusty residue. Lubricate before every use! Thanks for pointing that out!

Well That HI-Lift jack can be a life saver or a jaw breaker. Depending on the knowledge and respect you have to this Mighty Amazing wonder jack hoist come-along hand winch T-post puller Body frame straightener and so much more. About 25 years ago My girrlfriend and several other friends were out 4x4 out Pike National Forest and the 1978 Ford bronco. My friend driving we riding came across a wash out half the road on side mountain 300 foot down on a 45-50 slope he tried and we ended up sideways on embankment only thing stopped us rolling was the front and rear axles hit ground and both the passenger side tires on the very edge of dirt road driver side over embankmentgirlfriend screaming bloody murder we got her 98 lb ass out first and then i had my buddy climb over me pass. side out then me. Frind in truck behind us had a hilift and 2 thirty ft. chains we chained the axles and across road to a couple trees. Of course this is 3Am So we all pile into the back the other truck drive 26 miles back to pavement and we could find noone willing to come out and power winch us so we got 2 more Hilifts and more chain. Get back 11 am. and theres 12-15 trucks behind the Bronco pissed because chains across the road and we spent 2 hours and the chains and hilifts jacked that Truck slowly but back to level ground. Another day the story of the broken jaw and HI-Lifts in 2005. Uggghh. But get all the extra attachments for that jack and know about field recovery and rigging Will save a ass always. Boy Scout way

Hello Chris- when the lever is in the lower position and there is no weight on the jack it is normal that it will slide all the way down. In fact it will free-fall if you don't hold it! The reason for that is so you can quickly position the jack without having to pump the handle a few dozen times... When the lever is in the upright position one of the two pins should engage. One thing I have found about this jack is you need to practice with it a little bit to be comfortable and safe around it. The jack behaves differently with and without a load. Go outside and jack up a few small things at first like a cement block or a picnic table, and see how the jack reacts. Important to keep the pins lubricated and always keep a good grip on the handle while you move it up and down. I hope this helps! 😃👍

Hi Chris- Outstanding! Just be very careful about keeping a hand on the handle... There are a few videos where the handle drops down and pops up hitting the user in the jaw! Some people call these jacks widow makers! Take care Chris!

I wonder if you can help with a puzzling problem I'm experiencing with my Farm Jack recently purchased. I've tried to use the lifting handle to raise the jack but it will not work. I've taken everything on board that the supplier suggested like adding weight to the platform to no avail. I ended up having to send it back and ask for a replacement. I've got the replacement and am still having the same problem. Please see my video "Troubleshooting 48 inch Farm Jack" and this explains it better. Hope you can help. Thank you.

oh a question: how to you jack it back down, if it freefalls? seems like a good candidate to make adaptors to use this as a workshop press, bearings/pulleys and such

Jusb- Sorry I didn't demo the Jack when I did this review- When you flip the lever to lower it, the jack works in reverse, as you push down on the the jack handle the load lowers one notch at a time... 😃👍

I bought a red white and blue 60" one. It included the rubber handle holder. I thought it was a sweet deal. I had a Chinese version that worked similarly to it, but it tended to jam, and I just didn't trust it. I used it to tighten wire fencing and pull t-posts. Also pulled shrubs from the earth. Used it for a winch once. Yep, pay the money for a genuine hi-lift USA made Jack. The all cast is my choice too. I got sucked in by the cheap priced imported version. Buy once cry once. Remember these jacks can seriously hurt you if used improperly. Don't let the handle fall down under load, it can pop back up like a rocket!

We called them farm jacks very helpful for a high lift when using on some equipment., but you can bet ours didnt look like yours.you could make a lamp out of yours and put it in the dining room!!! Lol

CE has nothing to do with china.. EVERYTHING that is imported into europe has to have the CE mark or it will be illegal to import or sell...

from a UK perspective, it looks like a thing that laurel and hardy used to jack up their model t ford and made half a movie out of. but sometimes a good agricultural design is just that good, why stop making it, it predates cars and just happend to be used on some.

Hi Jusb, You're right! This design is almost unchanged since the early 1900's! The problem is that no cars have bumpers anymore! However as a farm jack it still has it's uses. Hydraulic jacks are great but can't pull a tree stump or fence post. It's like owning a brand new antique! 😃 Thanks!
