Turns out that a bloke from some of the hardest towns to pronounce in the world can’t get simple ones right in northern England 😅😂 (although it’s getting people to comment, maybe I did it on purpose😮)

Pob lwc Ed. All the best tomorrow on the HC. The Fred Whitton a brute, with Hardknott near the end, had to climb off on the Hardknott for a little bit.. honest

Great vid, ed. I love the climbs in the lakes👌. Did you do hard knot from the “hard” side also? Ie west to east? Also, give Blae tarn a nudge whilst you’re there. It’s stunning from north back over to langdale at the start of wrynose.

Agree with you on hardknott and apart from the bit where the cattle grid is and that steep bend it’s not what people rave about. Honister start to mid section was the hardest for me

Ed, compare Hardknott to Bwlch y Groes for me. I’ve ridden up Bwlch y Groes and it was the hardest climb I’ve ever done.

It's harder than the BYG, or at least, it's steeper in some sections but BYG has it's hardest section right at the very top.

Awesome job again ED! Glad you decided to keep some of your training secret ;-) Used to live upo in North Lancashire so I know the area quite well and used to go up into the lakes quite a lot Done Hardnott and Wrynose a couple of times, but in a car and that was tough! Rode the Struggle though and that's a really interesting ride especially the way it comes straight out on to the main road at the top. Good luck tomorrow, looking forward to the results and watching next weeks video 👍

I don't tend to train around the weekend races if I can help it, but at some point it has to be done because otherwise I start going backwards. This weekend is a prime example, but tomorrow's effort will still be as deep as I can go on the day, it's all prep for one event, these in the build up don't need to be peaked for.

I've been wondering about this since I've been in the UK a few weeks back. Do you people know it's possible to make hairpins on hills so the average gradient can be lower? It seems to me like every road up al hill is almost a straight line. Paving was probably done by dumping the asphalt on the top, and just let it flow down and compact it :) 20-30% is not normal :) But lake district is definitely on the map for our next UK holiday. For cycling up there I'd probably need to rent an ebike, because there's no gearing in the world that would get me up 30% without me falling over :)
@edlaverack
@edlaverack 11 ай бұрын
Indeed, but I think many would need an e-bike given the power I had to do to keep moving. You are very right though, the hairpins are crazy tight and yet there seems to be enough land to move the road a bit lol.
