There used to be arrow signs on most telegragh poles here in Australia, different colours referred to the different services. They are now however no longer there after 9/11. If you were ever lost all you had to do was follow the arrows and they would take you to the nearest military base.

Great video as always how often do you trim the shelter belts here in the uk the power companies go around trimming under the lines themselves. I do a lot of hedge trimming from the 1st of September most of the hedges i do are annually cut unless ground conditions get to wet we're only aloud to cut them from the 1st of September to the end February unless for road safety reasons.
@kiwifarmernz8 ай бұрын
Try and cut every year then there is less to clean up but ive been slack so these haven't been done for 3 years.

Wow, fences are looking good. What is the update on the trees that you planted about a year ago?

Thanks. They are doing well. Will update in a future video.

Any reason you don’t mark your post before putting in the ground? Saves another trip down the line specially on the hills and makes it quick and easy when ramming to get to depth on posts. Other than that bloody sharp fences mate keep it up.
@kiwifarmernz8 ай бұрын
I dont know, Have never pre marked posts. The only issue I see with pre making posts on this type of ground is sometimes you dont get them all the way in before they start bowing and splitting so the marks will be a bit high.

@@kiwifarmernz fair play, I’m a fencer up in the BoP most of the ground here is clay/rotten rock so can get away with pre marking ( not always but mostly ).

Hi. I'm a South African who loves your videos....been trying to work out the commands that you give your dogs. Please explain, for example..."Alfie wollogo"....Maybe some Kiwi slang that we're not familiar with. Cheers

I have said this before how can you stand the noise. Isn't it better for the sheep to be moved slowly and quietly.
@kiwifarmernz8 ай бұрын
Some times the ewes just turn around and look at you so a huntaway is the only way to get them up the hills. I grew up with huntaways on hill country so the barking doesn't bother me as long as it's controlled
@rigger3148 ай бұрын
Can I ask why those sheep still have tails?
@kiwifarmernz8 ай бұрын
They were never tailed as they are destined for the works and we didnt want an open wound or a tailing check in the lamb shed.

Wayleggo calls the dog back. Sounds yes like wallago. Alfie come back, that’s enough.

One less job next year pushing 2 tooths up the hill now your not lambing hoggs I take it you be putting the hoggs up the hill in the spring and live up there till tupping time, they be up there before all the older ewes once they know that's home, got to say your gates crack me up in nz they don't look very strong or high my cows would be straight through them 😂 but then maybe it's not the gate it's my cows
@kiwifarmernz8 ай бұрын
Some cows will test the gates. Normally run a hot wire across the gates if they are pushing.
@kiwifarmernz8 ай бұрын
Yea the ewe lambs will start to head into the hills soon.
