Thanks for this clip. I'm 51 years old and have recently started hill sprints instead of doing my usual 30 minute run. I just feel like I get more out of hill sprints. It feels good to be in my 50s and know I will be able to sprint for the bus or away a mugger. Haha.

I'm 53 and I race BMX.. a lot of the time, against guys half my age. Hill sprints took me from being a mid-pack rider to having a chance to win, every time I get on the starting gate. No other exercise has ever had a more dramatic impact on my performance..

I have had about 3 Achilles years on three different occasions one of which was during sprinting. Do who’ll sprints reduce tension on Achilles? I will say that I used to barefoot sprint up a massive sand dune that was the best and I had zero injuries.

Thanks for a excellent video. I live in Dubuque IA. There are many hills here. How seconds or how many yards should my sprint be? There is alot of conflecting advice on this. Some say 90 seconds , some say 200 to 400 meters some say 20 to 30 sec while others say 15 to 20 sec and others say 8 to 10 sec, which is the best range.

@KeepGoingLarryB3 жыл бұрын
@@S10Alexander running in the sand slows you down.
@S10Alexander3 жыл бұрын
@@KeepGoingLarryB The benefits of sprints are not how fast you’re moving relative to the earth, it’s the explosive output required from your body. Hills and sand are both a form of added resistance (overload).
@KeepGoingLarryB3 жыл бұрын
@@S10Alexander sprints are supposed to make you fast. Yeah it’s a great muscle builder but I wouldn’t want to be slow in exchange for the little muscle gain you will get from replacing hill sprints with sand sprints. Probably better off sprinting with a prowler sled instead.
@S10Alexander3 жыл бұрын
@@KeepGoingLarryB Yeah but a lot of people don’t have sleds on hand. Developing more explosive power, and turn over from sprint resistance (hills, sand, sleds) will make you faster when you run sprints without that resistance.

This is a great example of why sprints are overrated for fat loss. I mean the guy is a beast and trains hard. But he's got a high body fat%. It usually has to do with people over estimating how many calories sprints actually burn and they eat too damn much food. LOL Any type of sprint work is great for performance and conditioning. But if fat loss is a goal, be mindful of calories and walk a lot to stay active. Do the math. If you burn 100-150 cals a mile and walk 5-10 miles daily, that is WAY more cals burned than hill sprints 2x a week.
@crowskull97354 жыл бұрын
Walk 5 to 10 miles daily? You must have a lot of spare time on your hands, your letting this guys genetics and physique confuse the reality , your body fat percentage will come down to your dietary habits more then anything , running or walking for miles on end will burn more calories during your actual work out but then drop off, after you complete a sprinting routine your body will continue to burn calories and fat for 24 hours or more and actually burn more calories overall then low intensity cardio, plus high intensity sprints increases HGH levels better then any other form of exercise
@ryandeffley76524 жыл бұрын
@@crowskull9735 - You're actually preaching mis-informed "bro-science". The so called "afterburn" of EPOC has been disproven. There is a tiny spike in metabolic output. But not nearly to the extent that has been built up with it. LOL While you'll burn a decent amount of cals in one sprint workout, you will actually burn more on average with something you can do daily. If you're burning 500-700 calories in a 5 mile walk (depending on speed/weight) and you do that every day, that is WAY more weekly cals than in 2-3 sprint workouts. **Also hitting a brisk 5 mile walk takes like 65-75 minutes tops. How many hours do people sit around watching TV or being on the computer after work? Anyone can easily take 60-90 min out of their day to go for a faster paced walk. Doesn't involve "too much time" at all.

Sprint every other day and have a good diet. Really simple. Cut sugars, greasy food, fats food, juices and sodas. Drink mainly water and natural juice periodically. Make it routine and just do some form of activity 45min to and hour daily. Do hill sprint 3-5 times a week. I do running burpees jump rope and basketball
