You make it look so easy when in real life it's always a detective game. I didn't realize that there was a place to manually extend and retract the awning....I'm gonna file that one away in my old pea brain in case I ever run into that problem. Great channel and I really appreciate you "down to earthness" in your videos.

Kenny, I’m leaving you a comment, great job diagnosing the problem. A criticism, I wanted to see you replace the motor. And a concern, I was glad you didn’t fall off of the ladder. 🤣😉

watching you adjust the BAL cable slideout saved me from my cable falling off. I had noticed the cable sagging outside and was wondering what was wrong. After watching you I checked mine and the nut on the cable was holding by one thread. So keep up the good work love learning from us older experienced people. I am 75 years young and I try to pass on all my knowledge to my kids and grandkids.

Mine has done the same thing and I moved the awning with the drill 3 or 4 inches then it works with the switch again. I also use compressed air to blow the dirt out.

Great info! This is why everyone should carry a drill on their rig. Imagine trying to close the awning with a ratchet lol!! It’d take until sundown

Nice video. I’d bet the contacts in the switch fried, and one way will carry milliamps- enough to read on the meter but not to carry a load. Would be interesting to unplug the switch and jump power wires to motor wires. Could be bad motor took out the switch.

We have a Solera awning, and the motor died early this summer while on a camping trip. I used a meter to determine it was getting power. I removed the motor and tested it directly with a jumper wire to the battery. It was dead as a door nail! Luckily I was able to order a replacement on Amazon and have it delivered to a Locker about 15miles from the campground two days later. Easy repair, but a pain if you don't have a ladder handy.

The switch should change the polarity of the voltage to the motor depending on in or out operation. You had it one way but not the other. The open terminal voltage was 12V but probably at or near 0V when loaded (plugged in.) Switch is probably bad. You'll get full open terminal voltage even when the contacts are compromised (highly resistive.) Motor could still be bad though which may have caused the switch to fail from too much current. But then again the fuse should have blown. I didn't know you could manually retract it. I learned something new as usual. Thanks!

On the dometic a/c digital thermostat and control board upgrade. I have 12 volt going in the box from the furnace, but I do not have 12 volt going out. No 12 Volt to supply or to thermostat. If all wires are connected corectly, black to ground, freeze sensor installed. Does that mean the board is no good? I would love to call Dometic tech line but appearantly there is not one.😢

It would probably be handy to have the Dewalt or Milwaukee right angle drill attachment to wind that awning so that you were closer to your ladder without having your drill up in the air. About $30.

My dometic 9200 failed and I had to manually retract like you did. When it got to the top, it let go and fell all the way back out! No excessive torque was used. Steel shaft with a plastic gear failure. Motor had water damage. Be careful with these cheap awning motor/gearboxes.

FYI: I have a different brand. It does NOT have a way to crank it in. If motor goes bad I would have to remove the motor and somehow roll up the Awning by hand. If I ever have to replace it I'm going with a motor with a crank " shaft".

Reverse the leads on your meter and the -12vdc becomes 12vdc. Still looks like one side of the switch is dead.
@frankmitzen20085 ай бұрын
I would have tested the motor by using a 12 volt drill battery before just assuming the motor was bad
@lorenrickey54815 ай бұрын
I think I would’ve tried my jump pack too. Just in case there is a relay or blown fuses somewhere in the wiring.
