blood, Sweat and tears but one hell of an Adventure.
Thanks to everyone from Aushunt, Fish Hunt NZ, and CGN for the information with gathering enough gear to do such trips!
Fourth trip in with the AH crew, proud to have taken a beaut mature Sambar from this Region!

Keep coming back to this one. Must of watched it a hundred times. Hands down my favourite video on KZbin. Sums it all up for me. The ANP. The hours spent pouring over maps. The music. Heading bush with good mates. Strapping the backpack on top of a Swanie. Sweating ya ring out legging it in. Poking around the tops. The beautiful bird life. That freezing cold that goes straight through ya. That rain running down your neck, back and crack. Getting stuck in ya tent. Tucking into a feed while sitting on the cold damp ground. Campfire stories from the gurus. Staring into those mesmerising flames. Cheeky nip of port to warm the guts up. Freeze dried farts in the sleeping bag. That was desert. Lacing up cold wet boots pre dawn. Crashing through the bush with a head torch on to get into your glassing spot. Unbelievable sun rises with that misty fog rolling up through the valleys. Sitting up on the bluffs glassing over big country. Finally getting eyes on them. Trying to stalk in close. Pulling the trigger on one of your hand loads. Getting pumped over tipping a stag. Finding casties. Lugging all your crap out of the bush. Praying to the car Gods that your bus will start. Flogging the Pootrol hard to get home to the Missus. Processing your own meat. Cooking up a feed of venison. Sharing it with family and friends. And itching to do it all again. I love the bush. I love backpacking for these big brown deer. I love earning it. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Keep it up Hilldog, can’t get enough. Catch ya out there some time. Cheers 👍🏻

Thanks for video and big congrats on the stag. Just a tip for your tassie mate from someone who has shot ~150 sambar - lose the TTSX bullets - they are almost like military ammo and just poke holes in deer. Instead use softer bullets, Core-Lokts or equivalent.

What gear do you put in your backpack? Only just started backpack hunts and seem to be taking too much crap.
@HillDogTV
@HillDogTV 5 жыл бұрын
Rick, Aussies will typically carry too much shit So to speak.. Il make sure to carry the basics , sleep,. Be closer to 24kg for a week. Too many variables to discuss here for weight and what to take .... Just a fact ozi sambar guys think they're modern day Rambo or think they r on deployment

@@HillDogTV hahaha. Mate I reckon I was close to 25kg on a 3 dayer. Just got back with half the gear, I didn't use. I took it for what if scenarios. I'm shaking my head at myself. Absolutely love the videos HillDog. Need to look into better quality lighter gear. Froze me arse off on the tops. Thanks for the vids.

@@rickmelhuish1602 ha ha yeh I hear ya. That will happen and simply eliminating shit U wont need or lightening up gear. Gadgets start adding up. Waters hhuuge so off can find in area- saves alot of kg. Food-. Don't really need much. 1 knife, 1. Small spare. Depend on situation determined what you need or won't need. Happy days good on ya for getting started! PS a little chilli at night still

@@rickmelhuish1602 Rick sorry i did reply on the phone but it hasnt gone through. yep, you will just have to keep doin a few trips to nut out what you will and wont use , also lightening up everywhere you can. water is huge weight but if can find where u going then makes walk in easier. too many gadgets weighs up and can get expensive to cart tripods, adapters,poles,tents bla bla, i just keep it basic and try to go with fuck all but i always throw in a extra luxury or three... which feels OK in the morning but 5-8 hours later its a bit of a joke. food u will learn that u wont need much on 3 dayers in the bush, just enuff to keep the steam blowin, dont b affraid to shoot a hind or calf for camp tucker up the alpines either on the 2nd day at any stage... noodles are light and you will survive. im about to go right thru my shit and nut out more crap not needed as im carting too much on even day hunts for my size and lack of ability. cheers man , ive been caught up with other shit so not many videos produced, alot footage but will have a bit on the go soon. if ya got specific Q shoot them over on the Fakebook page man. easier to control over there

@@HillDogTV mate you are a deadset wealth of hunting gold. That's what I needed to here and puts me on track. I'd previously only been hunting from car campsites, but ya don't see so much. So decided to go backpacking in the thick of it and realised thats where the gold is at. Freedom further in is incredible and loving it. But yeah was bloody stocked to the point of luxury and smashing heavy chunky campbell soup cans. Noodles sounds heaps better and lighter and don't pass through so quick. Had alot of bulky clothes too that weren't that warm. Bloody learning curve. But been inspired by yourself and others on KZbin like Aussies bush harvest bloke as well (who I've seen a few cheeky times on your vids), just like that genuine shit. Not trying to toot your horn but really enjoy the vids, and will often re-watch stuff too. Happy Father's day and let's keep the tradition alive. Thanks HD
