You are meant to wrap the upper guyline webbing round the pole before pegging the lime.

Awesome review cheers! Any chance you have a review of the Staika? Doesn't seem to be much content on it.

Hey C P, Thank for the kind words! Have not used the Staika yet.... but will see if we can get a review going on it! Take care - Sean

I've been looking for a review of the Allak 3 ever since it was announced at OR last summer. Congrats on getting the first review out. Good to see its snowloading capabilities. I've had 2' of cement-like snow on my Allak 2 overnight, and although i had to reach through the roof vents to knock snow off the vent cover so it didn't flatten against the vents, sealing them, it was rock solid in that storm. Did you get a sense of the rigidity of the tent before the guylines were deployed? The 1P Soulo (red label) and 2P Staika (black label) pitch tight as a drum, but the Allak 2 has considerable movement until the guylines are deployed. I put that down to the longer span using 9mm poles, and I imagine it's either similar or even more noticeable on the Allak 3.

Hey Stuart, Thanks for checking this review out. I was pretty stoked when we saw this one at Summer OR as well! We get a little dryer snow here in Colorado, so it slid off the tent easily. The tent felt very good before using the guylines, however, I have not used the tent without using the guylines. We did get some decent winds on several of the nights and the tent did not move. I imagine it would have bowed a little bit if the guy lines were not in use. If we get out in the tent again, and do not use the guy out lines, I can updated this. However, I am reluctant to not use the guy outs (had a tent blow off the mountain last summer LOL that sucked!) I bet that Staika is a beast too! - Sean

@@Engearment Hi Sean, thanks for your speedy reply. I'm in CO too - this was one of those spring storms in early May three years ago that dumped 2' in the foothills and 4' in the high country overnight. I was very happy with how well the Allak 2 stood up to the conditions. Agreed that the guylines should be deployed in all conditions, so a $$$$ tent doesn't turn into a kite. It was more of an observation when I pitched two different Allak 2s, one at Neptune Mountaineering and another at Bent Gate, that the offset pole and non-symmetrical panel design of the Allak means it doesn't feel 100% taut when pitched in the way that the Soulo and Staika do. I joke about bouncing quarters off the latter two tents. The Soulo is almost painful to connect the last few clips to the poles when hands are cold. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, and although I also own the other two domes, the Allak 2 has been my most-used tent the last three seasons. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the Allak 3 after launch.

Hello fellow CO camper! I can empathize with very taught pitched tents - like the BD Awahanee - that thing was almost impossible to get the last pole in! I think I remember that freak May. Made for extended splitboarding pow days! The Allak 3 should be out in a few months. Hope you enjoy it! Sounds like you have the epic Hilleberg collection of tents! - Sean

Stuart - we just had a three man crew use this during 70 MPH wind on Pikes Peak last weekend. They are very impressed with the Allak 3. Just another good experience with this tent :) - Sean

@@Engearment That's good to know, Sean. I've a buddy who uses his Allak 2 in the Cairngorms in Scotland and he swears by it on even the wildest nights. I think the 3 has more perimeter stake loops than the 2, but wrapping the guyline loops around the poles is key to stability. Did they report much noise from the roof vent cover in those winds?

Sturdy tent, I would make sure clip all the missing clips on the center pole it may help with the sagging

Is the door supposed to be loose at the bottom bc my footprint is making it so I can’t spread the door snug

@@chosenmusicartist Hello! I am not sure what is happening with your set up. Sorry! I have not used the footprint either. We dont have the tent anymore (it was a media sample) so I can not look into this in more detail. I hope you figure it out and get to enjoy the tent though!

Ah, I was looking for reviews of this tent and you popped up, excellent! Two questions for you: how do you feel this tent would ventilate in warmer weather? What 3 season tent do you think is best suited to push into occasional winter use in terms of weather resistance and durability? Thanks!
@Engearment Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for the nice note and GREAT question. This tent is awesome! But it might be a bit too much in warmer weather. They have many more offerings that will be better for this. Outside of Hille, I really like my NEMO tents. They are good at all season use. We also like MSR and Black Diamond tents. Below are a list of some of our favorites - I hope they help! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6TcdWipftmonJI kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGPclJKChdd3d8k kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6Xbm6yDpLmtd5I

@@Engearment Thanks, yes, 3 of the tents I keep coming back to are the MSR Hubba Hubba (I am sure you have heard about the recent pole issues) ,and the Nemo Dragonfly and Dagger (I am not quite sure how much more durable the Dagger is then the Dragonfly). I was also interested in hearing more about the Slingfin Portal and MSR Freelte. The Slingfin Portal is coming out with a 3 person version, and gets mixed reviews. Which of the tents do you like do you feel is the most versatile, durable and best suited for occasional winter use between them? Willing to carry an extra pound if it means more durability and weather proofing...

Hey, would you recommend this or the Exped Orion if you could only have one?

Ohhh that is a great question. I might say Orion, just for the simplicity of set up. Both are super legit tents though!

@@Engearment Thanks for getting back to me, would you say they're equally as strong. I'm after a wind resistant tent for high level use. P.S you've just gained a sub

Thanks for the add! I have used both above tree line, in strong winds and under snow loading. I think they both work well for this when properly guide out. I have found that to yield the safest results (learned the hard way! Lol). I hope you enjoy the heck out of either one. They are very well suited for high wind adventures!
