I used to watch her. Completely stopped a while ago for reasons a lot of people commented about : 1. She had some setbacks, and instead of embracing it, she's been finding excuses 2. She's trying to rationalize everything through the prism "If I am not on the top, it means something or someone is conspiring against me" and not "I should do better" 3. Crossfit isn't responsible for the behaviour of individual practitioners of the sport, and overall the sponsorships, cash-prizes and coverage are equal between men and women if not better for women athletes (mostly due to brands marketing) 4. Hiller's Armchair is the Scroll of Truth most people don't wanna hear.

I watch Beth's videos and have come to accept that her whole world is veiwed through the lens of somebody who is wading though the mire of an ongoing mental illness. Listening between the lines,she is shaping her narrative to uplift herself (which is fine) regardless of how often she misses the mark and actually puts others down ( specifically talking about real fitness while suggesting fitness is not "a look" and in doing so,shaming skinny/lean athletes) As for there being no positive media,I have two words " Buttery Bros" Cheers

I am an affiliate owner. I get told all the time how positive and welcoming everyone is in CrossFit. Also, men and women treat each other differently. Men are way more blunt and women build each other up with positivity no matter what. Not saying either is better or worse. When those get mixed, especially men to women, it’s seen as toxic or negative when that’s just how men talk to each other. Also the “everyone gets a trophy” aged people get super but hurt when they can’t do something others are doing or have worked to get. Life’s hard and it’s not made easy for everyone. Some have to work extra hard at certain things while others don’t.
@sarikalanti90849 ай бұрын
So when I walked into an affiliate, I was morbidly obese and struggled to get up off the floor. I was self conscious and anxious but not even once I had derogatory comments or judgement from anyone. In fact, the members celebrated with me for every win, first burpee, first box jump, left PRs even when everything was slow, light and way beyond scaled. I am fed up of the negativity and bitterness of Beth, she is clearly far from healed. I used to be triggered by a million things and get upset all the time by various people and to me that was just a sign of remaining wounded and mentally unwell. I don't agree with many things and am happy to debate however I don't get triggered anymore. As human beings we are supposedly entitled to freedom of speech and certainly to our own opinions, it is incredible that anyone expects to live life without encountering things to disagree with.

@margusiraptor97292 ай бұрын
All of you are wrong about what's toxic masculinity , and just because some misinformed person or people told you that as a way to bash you, this doesn't redefine what toxic masculinity means. Hyper masculinity isn't per definition, toxic masculinity. Certain traits of hyper masculinity however can be toxic, and fall under the term of hyper masculinity - like seeing femininity as weak, bad, inferior to masculinity; underestimating women, not being able to show emotion in a healthy way other than rage; shaming women and other men for being too 'girly' (so weak, emotional, etc.), assuming women are inherently the second gender and less capable (and thus, feeling the need to 'guide' or lead women without being asked specifically) etc. Also - having very rigid standards for what's considered masculine, never reaching out when you have problems ('real men solve them alone!!' type of mentality), or simply denying the presence of any problems. Boasting materialism, seeing women as to be 'conquered' in dating, (performative) hypersexuality.

She has a lot of issues and she's in denial about everything. It's wild that she is coaching or training anybody. Only the strong can help the weak. If you are at the bottom of the leaderboard work hard, learn, and let everyone help you improve. When you are in the middle help the people struggling at the bottom to keep progressing and grind. When you are sitting at the top you have a responsibility to be a leader, an example, and help as many as you can. It's not divisive, it's proof we are all helping each other strive towards a common goal and a way to celebrate success and have accountability. Negativity sucks and it never helped anybody.

Everything is about her and how things affect her. She can’t see past herself at all. I commented on one post one time- it was a “light hearted” video of her rolling on the floor with the caption “if you’re not lying on the floor after a WOD were you even trying? “. I get it, been there. My comment was that I used to do it, but had had the opportunity of an online coaching session with the absolute legend and multi Olympian Eric Murray. He said only lie on the floor if you’re waiting on an ambulance (and gave reasons). The comment was about my coaching session with an absolute expert and she shot back with “ how dare he make comments about me and judge me he doesnt know me or appreciate how my anxiety affects me etc”. I replied that he probably had zero idea that she existed and that I was simply sharing a different perspective from an Olympian. To which she made some kind of elitist comment and again said that she had to lie down for her anxiety. No one was judging, I was simply sharing what was a light bulb moment for me. The knee jerk reaction groan her is very telling

Those sorts of people really do need help even though its infuriating trying to help them. I don't have much beef with Hillers take but I do wonder if doing a communal dog pile on her is healthy for her or us? I know she's the one putting herself out there but I wonder if we would be doing her a massive favour, both mentally and physically, by just ignoring her? Especially if she is soon going to be dealing with and raising a new-born in a few months. We almost a duty of care to ignore her as odd as that may sound. IDK.

I was shouting at the TV in disbelief every time Beth spoke, and then Hiller said exactly what I’m sure everyone else was saying/thinking too. Why Beth, why?! Just stop. You’re embarrassing yourself.
@andogrando4879 ай бұрын
I think that Hiller was really on to something when he was talking about the source of the community in CrossFit. The community was so strong initially because everyone was so invested in the same goal of getting fitter, fitter than average, in short, better. Then the plot was lost and instead of saying this community is so strong because they all like to push the physical limits - it became this community is so strong and they don't care if you want to test your limits and get better. Am I saying everyone in the gym needs to be pounding pre-workout and doing 4 40 min AMRAPs per day? No, not at all but everyone needs to be wanting to get better. A lot of times the message of inclusiveness (which I completely believe in) gets confused with the idea that we need to accept every limitation - self-imposed or otherwise - that everyone puts on themselves. The whole goal of CrossFit was to push the limits of our capability - Oh you're good at gymnastics? How's your running? Got a huge bench? How fast can you climb this rope? Oh you can run 5 miles? How fast can you get 30 cal's on the echo bike? I just feel like the type of people that gravitate towards crossfit generally are going to clash with people that want to just accept things as they are - which is the predominant message that is getting pushed by the Sporty Beth's of the world.

Hey Drew, I started doing CrossFit in 2006. I served in TF-16 in Ramadi, Iraq. Initially, our HQ element was from Naval Special Warfare and ALL the SEALs were doing the "Main Site Workouts" on the old CF yellow main site. I got my Level 1 in 2013, so I have truly seen the rise and fall of CF. In my humble opinion, CrossFit's "PED-free" stance was bound to fail because it was a Lie; since PED's were in the community from the very beginning! Regardless of testing, many CF Athletes were cycling on and off throughout their year long training schedules, and consistently passing drug tests. As expected, the façade finally fell and the only people who truly suffered were the people being charged $210/month to send other people to the CF Games. We as a community should have been 100% honest; good, bad, or indifferent. Around the same time, the body building community was being VERY opened about PED use. Their athletes were told up front "this is the price of admission" take it or leave it. While CrossFit Athletes were setup to ultimately chase a "Fitness Unicorn" indefinitely.

The boys at my gym are very competitive, yes, but they are also super nice, caring, easy going... I love training with them! Men DON'T suck Beth.

CF affiliates/community not being friendly and inclusive ? 😂 I mean this is as friendly and inclusive as it gets. Go to a random gym and see who is friendly and communicative there 🤪

2:24 ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME?!?!??!?!! Know who put that great content out? The "most toxic man in cf" (your word Beth, not mine) Did you even think for half a second there? Wrf is wrong with you?!

I have watched her for some time - she is clearly struggling mentally. What I am most concerned about is she is about to become a mother and she has admitted repeatedly that she is not in a good headspace. Not good when you are about to become a parent.

Is it easy for internet warriors to type what they want to type. I'd be willing to bet the most of these negative comments come from someone who has never been in a crossfit gym for more than a month.

I’m not sure these comments she shares are even real. Unless she’s deleting them immediately I’ve not seen any of the comments she shares, or even similar ones.

I used to think she had as positive message - that fitness isn't based around an idealised body image. And to be fair, even at her 'happy' size, she is (was) still very fit and very strong. More recently, her content has become very negative towards CrossFit as a methodology, CrossFit as a community, CrossFit affiliates, other CrossFit internet content makers that might disagree with her etc etc. It's ironic that she calls out the toxic negativity in the space - whilst generating the most negative content and carping from outside the space (she doesn't seem to train at an affiliate any more - they're all too cliquey and full of toxic men!). That said, she clearly has unresolved issues with her mental health, and I am uncomfortable with the harsh and very personal comments that she sometimes attracts. Given where she's at in her personal journey with her issues, I think someone should really advise her to step away from the internet - I'm sure it's not doing her any good! Fair and balanced commentary though, Hiller 🦇🦇
