I coached Sunday classes at my former affiliate - very well attended - averaged 9-12 people in attendance. Started Sunday classes at my current affiliate; three weeks into it, and it's slowly catching on with members. They look at Sunday as affording the best opportunity to attend class because they are free of the daily obligations - school, work, etc.

I agree with having more weekend classes. Affiliates in my area don't run any classes during the week after 5:30pm, and I'm working until then, but then they're closed on Sun and only have 2 partner WODs on Saturday morning. I would love to be able to take a regular class on the weekend, if given the chance.

Have fucking open gym more often… pisses me off
@VeeZee21945 ай бұрын
The biggest problem with affiliates is that it doesn’t work for people who want to train a solid 1-2 hours. A 10 min WOD isn’t enough for the more serious, for others it is & that’s great - an open gym before or after class is ideal but that costs the gym owners. Ideally you could have your long term clients rotate between staying and locking up or something. More frustrating is I can’t train CrossFit and or Oly in many of the towns I visit for work and family. CrossFit gyms only allow drop ins for a class, rarely have open gym and dear lord it can be a $30 drop in. That is not accessible. The affiliate model needs reworking.
@EAGLEbowHUNTER5 ай бұрын
A lot of it I believe is also coaching availability. MOST coaches aren't full-time and especially during the summer with kids and trips, etc. finding coaches to cover classes can be tough. We have a smaller community and small coaching staff ( 6 coaches ). With schedules we have 3 coaches available for any AM classes and 3 available for PM classes IF everyone is around but weekends get worse. We may only have 1 in town on any given weekend because 5 of us have full-time jobs and of those 5, 3 of us have to also travel for work. So we have started having more open gym sessions available. Workouts and warm-ups are written on the board and there are a few members that follow this or that programming that allows them to come in and workout after classes without interfering.

I think the point of the first comment by poundofbeef was more to the sense of "You don't need to lift AND accessory AND Metcon in one day". We should be working out most days of the week but sometimes it is worth more to do a single strength WOD and hit it hard than to do 3 parts and half ass all of them. The entire idea of crossfit is pretty much based on the fact that you only need 1 WOD a day to get fit. Sure, after a certain point you need more volume to get fitter but so many people these days are doing volume, volume, volume. Strength piece + Oly piece + gymnastics work a metcon and then an ab finisher. But they just end up half-assing it all because they're not Emma Lawson. I get too many people saying that they "feel like they didn't do enough today" after a 5x5 Backsquat. Yea Bridget... because you half assed it and never broke a sweat. We could program a 7 min Burpee AMRAP on the same day, yea you would be sweating more, breathing harder and "feeling like you did something" but it's less effective. Do one thing a day and give it your all. If you need something on top, do that but not if you start slacking on the first part.
@frontierlandfrank53144 ай бұрын
For the majority of people going to a CrossFit gym. It’s moronic to have them come in, program them only a 5x5 (insert lift here) and send them out the door. The idea that a coach would they’re not training hard enough if they don’t think the workout was enough is beyond moronic. If you’re charging 100 ish bucks a month and not having a full class of strength/skill work, some conditioning component/WOD. You’re a lazy a coach.

When I used to CF I was only able to train at 5AM and the gym didn’t post the workouts ahead of time. I eventually left that gym because coming in that early to a strength or metcon only day didn’t make the session worth it. Too much warmup, too much standing around and instructing. By the time it was time for the metcon I was checked out and just going through the motions

I just don't care about rep shavers in a normal, everyday class. I'm not talking anything competitive or something where there is a real leaderboard, that's different. But if Billy Bob is working out next to me and is rep shaving while I am not, that's his business. If he wants to get a lesser workout, take the easy way out, and maybe not get better, that's on him. That's different than scaling mind you. scale to your abilities and improve. if you are just rep shaving/cutting corners cause you refuse to scale, that's your choice.
@christineyoung785 ай бұрын
Your body/muscles need rest at least once or more a week depending on age. Overtraining leads to burn out and injuries. I’ve been doing CF over 12 years now. Intensity over volume, big picture is fitness for life.

Offer HWPO for a 4-6 week "program", Mayhem for 4-6 "program", etc. that gives the camp enough time to showcase their strength AND to work on a specific area of focus for those following

There are so many external factors and CrossFit still being kind of a small sport those factors way in even more.
