I saw the "Florida" weave being done up in Canada many years ago. My teacher was grinding the knees out of her jeans while weaving the twine. The "pipe" appears to be a brilliant addition to the staking process. Thanks!

It really shows out on potatoes! Dig that furrow, plant the taters, reverse the plows and cover, then hill later, and run through the rows weeding......perfect tool for taters!

How many feet did you do between your rows of corn? What do you do about pollination and corn readiness?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 жыл бұрын
Typical corn spacing is 30" - 36". We usually do 36". If you plant corn in a square plot, there are usually no pollination issues. Although you can take a long stick or pipe and brush the tops of the tassles to improve pollination. Sweet corn is ready when the silks turn brown.

Here's a link to a video we did last year with our Bloody Butcher corn harvest. We used the seed from last year to plant this year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZXRlqluZZqnnqs&list=PLpE5HGhzrST92VQKjbC-jp9w4HJ4JjMVs&index=19

That's one of my favorite video you guys have uploaded, I've showed it to my family a dozen times. There's not much videos on the web for bloody butcher corn. So when I found your videos of the corn growing and and grinding to flour, It really fascinated me to grow it myself. Especially since it has Anthocyanin which makes the red colour in the corn & It has the chances to reverse diabetes and nervous system damage. Its pretty cool that Red corn is more healthier then yellow or white corn since its packed with more antioxidants then common corn .

It was one of our favorite videos to shoot as well. The red corn makes the best grits we've ever had. Really good stuff!

How do you keep from damaging your drip tape and why not run fertilizer through your drip vs. granular. ThAnk you For your videos
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 жыл бұрын
We do both -- inject and side dress. The drip tape is buried below the corn -- we plant directly on top of it -- so the implements never touch the tape.

Hey you said that plot was 20x40..... how small can you go with corn?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 6 жыл бұрын
Trivit30 you could go smaller, even 20 x 20. Just make sure it’s a square and not a long rectangle, otherwise pollination won’t be great.

Have you thought about designing and manufacturing an attachment for the wheel hoe or seeder that would allow a consistent application of product for side dressing crops?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 жыл бұрын
We have. We have been through several iterations of such a product, but have yet to find something satisfactory for us. The challenging part is the hopper and the weight distribution of the hopper so that the tool is not top heavy and difficult to push.

Do you put the nitrogen on one side of the corn on each row?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 5 жыл бұрын
Brad Warren yes we just put it on side of the row with corn. If it’s a double row of lettuce or another crop, we’ll put it on both sides.

Can you send me to the how too and the steps for hilling. I keep finding the videos of you doing it. I am a city slicker trying to be country. Love my Hoss tools
@gardeningwithhoss

We mainly hill potatoes, corn and tomatoes. Potatoes -- we do it to encourage more potato production. We repeatedly hill the plants as they grow and leave just the top leaves exposed. Tomatoes - we do it to promote more root development. Corn - we do it to stabilize the plant and keep it from being blown over when it gets tall.

@@gardeningwithhoss Thank you. I understand this. I am having difficult on the how to do it. I put the shovels on to far apart and or go to deep. Then I am letting the plant get to tall. Then I need to use one shovel. Then I am to far away from the plant. Wonder if there is video on how to do it correctly. I am not doing it correctly. Sorry, I am city slicker
