Try finding an affordable and available housing option in Berkeley or Santa Monica California. Both have had rent control for decades.
@shadowwolfkano
@shadowwolfkano Жыл бұрын
@@mwatercress I'm assuming your point is that it is difficult to find housing, you didn't make it explicit. For starters, this is about Hillsborough county area of Florida. The US, as a whole, has gotten out of the housing business during the Clinton administration with the advent of the Faircloth amendment, restricting public dollars to fund or subsidize large scale production of housing in lou of letting the invisible hand of the private market resolve the issue. The invisible hand looks a lot like the Emperor's new clothes: ethereal and illusory. Choosing California as an example just shows you aren't a good faith actor, as it has some of the largest housing inequity in the nation in general, rather than using existing, working rent control examples such as the many boroughs of New York, another east coast region.
@mwatercress
@mwatercress Жыл бұрын
@@shadowwolfkano My point was that Berkeley and Santa Monica have a long history with very strong rent control programs since the 70s and the housing crisis has gone from bad to worse. Have you tried to find a rent-controlled unit to rent in any borough of New York? Maybe the flight from the city has made it easier since COVID.

There was a homeless 70 year old woman sleeping on the ground near where I live. I talked to her and her children stole her money and caused her to be homeless. Shame on them. I got some numbers for her to call for shelter that may can help her find somewhere to live. Poor lady asked for some water and food which I provided. I haven't seen her in 2 weeks so I am hoping she found shelter with one of the places I wrote down for her.

Waiting list....who do you think is at the top of the list for housing? Refugees and illegals. Elders who worked and bought homes can't afford the upkeep of their homes. Try hiring someone to do anything, it's outrageous what contractors ask for and they don't want small jobs. Owning a home today is way out of reach because the added expense of upkeep and taxes has become so expensive. Years back you could get someone to cut your lawn for 50 bucks! Today they want 200 dollars and they want to come back every two weeks! No more calling when you need them either, you have to do a "lawn care plan". It's not JUST the govt, it's people being greedy.

I'm 100% sure its greed, but worse off it has a lot to do with the insurance commissioner last year allowing insurance companies to dump policys at the start of hurricane season and higher taxes as the state tries to cash in on property taxes. New policies by the state run home owners policy does absolutely nothing but boot home owners with no where to go as private insurance companies doubling up on premiums from last year. Wasted time with the new house bill it only lined private insurance compaines and lined the people at the house. WASTE

We are paying for non-Americans to have affordable housing but people who worked in this country and paid into the system are homeless. What is wrong with this picture? We need government assistance, Hud, etc. Helping other people form other countries coming in I have no problem with for short term help but we need to take care of those who paid into the system all their lives so others could have. Need to bring welfare assistance back to the local communities. So many dual incomes not married and those who really need are not getting it because the system is taxed o the limits by people who are on it and lie. Once it was to help you. Yes there is a housing crisis and not just in Florida. I myself can attest to that. Last year, I was evicted from my 2bd 1&1/2 bath apartment. Why? Not because I paid my rent on time that's for sure. My rent over the 6 years I had lived there was only $500/month. But the property owner wanted to sell the property and evicted all the residents. To renovate the place for sale. From the time I moved there till now, and knowing others of my age, rentals have gone sky high here. This used to be a small town and affordable. But between the pandemic, inflation, people moving to Western North Carolina from other states, housing rents have skyrocketed. I was told my old rental now rents for about $1300/month. My new place I moved into last year costs me $700/month, and I'm lucky to have gotten it at that price. I am certain my landlord could have gotten $300 more per month considering he pays the electric bill. I've seen the homeless increase in number here in recent years. Hell, even Wal-Mart is getting too expensive. By the way, my current place is actually a tiny home, but it could fit on the first floor of my old apartment. Hey, at least the views are better here.

Your country allowed foreign immigrant realtors to practice in this country and they sold these properties to foreign investors so foreign folks own most of the houses now. They were NOT able to immigrate or find work in this country so they found the loophole. Stole the housing and jacked up the rent to afford living in this country illegally on the local folks dime. Rent is HIGH because they live here off that rent. Property prices are inflated to prevent the local folks from taking them back.

America's success depends on consumption. If people save instead of purchase, the economy goes down. For our entire lives, at every turn, we are encouraged to spend - buy this new car, buy this outfit, pay for this vacation, get this piece-of-junk, your cell phone is dated - get a new one, etc. If we were bombarded with ads encouraging us to save for our futures, we wouldn't be in this situation, but sadly, it is very easy to lead humans by the nose. Most older people simply can no longer work even if they want to. Meanwhile able bodied young people who can't keep their pants on ,get tons of help, even as they are making new kids while struggling and homeless. This will lead to poor retired Americans moving to 3rd world countries. You can rent a nice apartment and live a nice lifestyle in Dumaguete, Philippines for $1,500 per month. The people there speak English. Go there!

where would someone get $1500 every month in Phillipines? many in USA get $600 to maybe $1200 social security checks. Rents are $1200 for one bedroom. That's why so many seniors homeless here. Can't imagine they can just move to Phillipines, and Phillipines govt just hand you tons of money and housing as you get off the plane.I think its way more complicated than what you say?.
