I used to spend a lot of my off time in this part of the country. It’s a sight to behold. It looks like miles and miles of flowing ribbons of different colors.

Trevor Great drone work once again. After flying out there I realize how hard it is to keep the drone out of the dirt in those hills. Good job. I thought you were going to miff it in the one scene You were pretty close to the wheat heads. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah i am not sure what almost got me a few times. We got hawks here too, which don't like drones I think.

Glad to hear that. I will have more and more footage each harvest hopefully. Until I am just going around and working for a day at a different farm every few days of the week. Kinda like dirty jobs mixed with the gold mining show and deadliest catch.

Boy, that drone really shows how steep that stuff is! Nice footage, Trevor!

Yeah, the drone really helps get the shots I wanted to get. I got the drone under the combine for maximum effect for the thuumbnail too. I like flying my drone a bit low, so it's good i have insurance on the thing.

Trevor your thought heavy newer machines really slide ass down , is that the inability to level that other 9 degrees like the older factory levers or just shear weight? My old jd justly slide header first in thoughs 45 degree cuts just wondered your thoughts. Thanks for you show from home.
@TrevorStruthers24 күн бұрын
The things are getting taller and heavier. They don't think about us when they design the weight loads. The engine is in the middle but its really high up there and yeah...they don't level enough so they start sliding when all that high up weight shifts.
@TrevorStruthers24 күн бұрын
The 1990's CASE's we ran would have lime in the back tires. Red ones like to nose stand. They need more weight low and in the back. high up doesnt help when youre leaned over so far..

Hi Trevor Im an hillside farmer too here in Italy. Here manufacturers still produce "real" hillside combine (New Holland, Claas, Laverda). They run 20ft header max, and tractor pattern singles only, with a leveling system like the old 1470 and 1670, that i like so much. Old case had a little more transversal leveling but ours have much more longitudinal, especially uphill. Its clear that's due to the shape of your fields and hills...you need longitudinal leveling only once in a while. The strange thing is that these 3 or 4 manufacturers still produce and develop "real" hillside combine almost exclusively for italian market. I think Oregon Washington and Idaho have numbers to justify an investment on dedicated hillside combines for Jd case and Nh. I mean, new technology and big sizes with classic and proven layout of the machines. That JDs -ass- really wants to drift downhill, my Laverda rear tyres stays where the front stay even on 40% slopes, but obviously is half the size. It must be really annoying. I know, you, as an hillside operator like me already know all these facts, but many "flatlanders" dont. However another awesome video. Once in my life i have to come and visit Palouse and take a ride on with you, the shocking thing for us its the amount of land you've got!!!!!
@TrevorStruthers23 күн бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I have seen the videos and know exactly what you are talking about. People often mention you guys when I talk about hillside machines. Three way leveling systems don't really exist here and the combines that used to have them are not made anymore. They did exist at one point here as well. The people here who run the 1470's in my area didn't want me recording them harvest, but maybe one day they will allow it. They are my friends, so I do not wish to violate their privacy by just flying the drone in front of them harvesting. I think there is a market here for a modern fully leveling smaller combine. Each farm would probably only want one though, and continue to work the large parts of the fields that they can with the big machines. The fields are really large and can sometimes be many miles long, so a bigger machine can hold more wheat and cut more wheat. I wish the machines were cheaper! My email is struthersfarming@gmail.com if you ever come to the Prescott, Waitsburg, Dayton corridor in Washington along highway 12, I can surely find you a ride in a combine.

@TrevorStruthers you are a nice guy Trevor thats for sure. I knew a farmer in an old forum that Is now down, that operates 1470s and 1670s. he was maybe from Oregon, i remember in some photos there Is mt.Hood in the background. The old red ones are such fascinating machines, when you see some photos of Them hitting the Red light on some steep slopes you understand that Is some serious design!!!! Nice to have something in common with a guy 10,000miles away 😅

How deep is the top soil on those hills? A lot of that is washout from lake Missoula?
@TrevorStruthers24 күн бұрын
Yeah, from the Missoula floods from what I remember learning in school. There are rocky patches in places where you can see it is only 20 feet deep or so. Where my dads farm is out on the Eureka flats...I've heard talk of 100's of feet of soil there in places. We do have some rocks but they are pretty well buried and you can only see them in the river canyons.

I noticed your using turn tires over ag-tires? do you get better sidehill traction out of turf tires than regular "Tractor" ag-tires ??
@TrevorStruthers24 күн бұрын
I've been told they have the best sidewall tolerances. They're rated for a lot of stress like youu see them taking when leveling the combing. The tires don't level on these machines, only the chassis.

Trevor, what kind of wheat is this and what is the yield?
@TrevorStruthers12 күн бұрын
Soft white winter, probably a shine or jefe cultivar. Mid 80s to 90s bushels to the acre. It was a bumper crop for us. Average is closer to 60 or 70 in Prescott Wa. The price didnt help matters though. It never adjusted for inflation! Unlike everything else
@snowfighter6223 күн бұрын
I wonder if you lose a lot of the crop by not using a real hillside combine.

Thank you very interesting still can’t believe the combing didn’t flip.
