This is an excellent introduction to the art and the development of the artist. It accurately contextualizes her work with the developments in science and technology at the turn of the century, both in trying to understand patterns of nature and humanity as well as linking symbolism in art with man's reach to apprehend and comprehend what is beyond his immediate senses, in the spectra of each sense as well as in time and space.

Fascinating art of a special kind. Hopefully the notebooks of Hilma af Klint are published in some detail. In Switzerland there was Emma Kunz, an artist who also was in contact with higher spirits and worlds and created abstract paintings who are equally interesting as af Klint's.

I see Geometry, Mathematics, Spiritualism, Quantum Physics, Pitagorismo etc.. it's all in the paintings..Minimalism, Modernism, Abstractism, Colorism.. she was ahead of ALL painters!

'Beyond the Visible - Hilma af Klint'. 2019 A 93 minute documentary on Hilma's life and work.. the video above is a mere excerpt. Highly recommended. Kandinsky and Rudolph Steiner do not come out well...let alone MoMA....

The reason she kept them secret was because they were not works of 'Abstract' art, but illustrations to esoteric concepts, which were embodied in the writings of the Theosophical society, and were therefore not for public consumption. If you are going to curate something like this you should do your homework first.

Ohne theoretischen Hintergrund geht es nicht. Man könnte sonst jeden Ornamentemaler als abstrakten Künstler bezeichnen. Die Ungegenständlichkeit hat die Mittel selbst zum Gegenstand und nicht Vision und Fantasie.
