We love French Polynesia. We're so happy you were able to see the whales!

Thanks Jacob! :)

Wow, that swimming with whales looks amazing. It is also lucky for you to see the whales breaching and tale slapping. I went out for a whale watching tour and saw many humpback whales, but only peaceful dives and no breaching.

Thanks! Glad you were able to see whales on your tour as well. 🐋 Incredible experience!

There are sub-$100/night rentals or Airbnbs in Papeete (and even Moorea) within walking distance of the ferry port. Maybe you'll need to spend $150/night to find a place that meets your expectations but that's probably far cheaper than a hotel. You can stay in Papeete for your entire trip and take day trips to Moorea and Bora Bora with tours from sites like Viator that include pickup and drop-off. If you think taxis are expensive in Tahiti, just wait until you see their prices in Moorea and Bora Bora. Therefore, if tours aren't your thing, you could rent a car from Tahiti's airport, as you can take it on the ferries to Moorea and Bora Bora. One last tip: if staying in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora is on your bucket list, consider staying for just one night there, and spend the rest of your trip in Papeete, Tahiti...YOLO

Yep, tips here were mostly for vacationers heading to Bora Bora who are connecting through Tahiti and maybe doing some activities before the Bora Bora segment (which leans towards honeymooners / anniversary travelers vs. more adventurous people) i.e., this was our 2 days before we headed to Westin Bora Bora

🐳🐳🐳 We enjoyed staying at the Hilton for its convenient location near the mall and the ferry port. The Intercontinental Resort Tahiti was also very close to the airport, and it had a more rugged, Tahitian feel compared to the modern and Western atmosphere of the Hilton. By the way, what music did you use as the background for the scenic flight to Bora Bora?

When did you guys go there? We were there at the end of August and were told the welcome drinks benefit was eliminated.
@MandyRoams13 күн бұрын
We were there in early Oct. I’m not impressed with the lack of benefits or “hidden benefits” on property. We were unaware of it being discontinued, so they probably gave it to us as a courtesy.

Mandy, how did you manage the swimming during the whale tour? I think you mentioned you’re not a strong swimmer. Do they allow a floating vest?
@MandyRoams6 күн бұрын
Floating vest :) I would actually consider bringing your own, if you have one you liked. The one here was a lot tougher to use vs. the one I used in Cabo (also from service provider).

@ great! we do have our own vests from WILDHORN OUTFITTERS - PALAWAN INFLATABLE VEST. they’re lightweight, easy to pack and use. highly recommend them if you like getting in the water but want the extra safety as well ☺️

Did anything surprise you at the Hilton.., maybe compared to other Hiltons, except the issue with the Diamond status? An honest review. Yes Crabtree is a common brand at Hiltons (I have a stash..) Really good content👍.

Mostly just the inconsistent front desk. Otherwise, was a fine experience :) Pool team was friendly!

@MandyRoams Great, I think Hilton has quite good quality control, I know a couple of instances when they took over a property from Accor, rebranded it and raised the standard.

Yep, generally pretty solid in our experience as well.
