I agree. Rider needs to bring the motorcycle to right gear and accelerate. I feel this automatically happens once you understand the machine. Having said that, the knocking sound in KTM when I test rode it is irritating( unless it is specific to the bike I rode)

Very true...buzz shouldn't be mistaken for Vibration.. in city conditions heat is a given. Rode them both back to back on same city stretch. Felt Himalayan tiring to ride in city as it's clutch is relatively harder but it was faster due to better initial torque, thus needed more shifting and breaking. Repeated over again, it was tiring. Also it felt ungainly big in city traffic. Found KTM needed less work as it stayed slotted in lower gears. Also felt KTM was more sedate and lighter thus safer in city's thick traffic conditions.

I own a 390 ADV. The side by side image is definitely striking how much more ground clearance the 450 has. The 450 is also a very attractive bike. I am not a fan of the 390's parrot beak. I bought the 390 because of the huge value at the time. I believe 450 has closed the value gap. If I was chosing today it would be the 450, however the 2025 390 Adv looks to have best of both worlds.

I've set my mind on the Himalayan. I'm moving up from a 180cc Apache BS4. And I feel that the vibration and heat on the Himmy is significantly less. My hand sometimes tingles after long rides on my Apache, especially if I'm holding the RPM between 4500-5500 ( I took it to multiple service centres and enquired, apparently the 180cc carburettor engine is just buzzy in general). The engine heats up quite a bit in traffic too.

Hello Bosky & CK Ivr got the H450 a week back.. Im meeting a lot f these very curious people on road coming and asking these Questiins .. Suspension, heat, mileage, vibrations nd engine noise etc etc. Just as you said .. its normal to have these for this segment, nd to be honest, the vibrations are way lesser than what ive expected. No issues while riding the lower RPMs (yes the engine feels smooth past 3200rpm) As a downside i only felt the switches positions Im 6.1 the riding position js quite neutral. But but when you stand up l, the handle bar feels to be a bit low for my liking. ! Nd im enjoying the new Himi as people calling it. Ive been using the 90 STD 350 for the last 15+ years

If you see it on paper Himalayan has more Torque. GS is light yes but light in power too. Himalaya is heavy but doesn't feel heavy while driving. Himalayan will be pocket friendly to maintain. On the other side GS has high maintenance, BMW charges a premium for everything Main thing - You can get Himalayan fixed anywhere in India due to service network but that's not the case with BMW GS 310. Himalayan is still value for money. GS is like buying an iPhone IFKYK

And yeah, might be that the weight isn't felt while we are out on the highway with the Himalayan, but I definitely felt the weight in stop and go city traffic. I was dead set in getting the Himalayan seeing all the specs on paper and took the test drive just for the confirmation. But now looking at second hand lightly used GS's which is comparable and even less at times.

Yes the seat is a Ballsquashky😂, me being light set and riding in my jeans which do not let me grip the tank well. The pillion footrests are too high set I felt. Like you rightly said the engines are very similar in character. On the air filter front while I understand it’s difficult for maintenance one big big advantage is that it will avoid so much of dust, sand & muck which otherwise would have been usually sucked through if the air filter was under the seat. I have a first had experience of it & know how much more damaging it is to the engine.

Good points as usual. The thing with on board display seems ridiculous. Why two screens have to be on at the same time. The integration of a display for navigation in the bike is to reduce the effort of our phones. But the display to be on always just puts the navigation on the dash a useless feature. The thing with plugging in the phone onboard while riding to compensate for the battery drain is just the way things are right now. Our phones have a huge display more information expert navigation so the cluster advertising as a good feature seems off😅

Detailed and entertaining comparison between both bikes. Carry on the detailed technical reviews regarding nuances of motorcycles. I would request Bigbear customs as a Yamaha fanboy for your inputs and suggestions for Yamaha to launch a 450cc single(for Indian budget consious mind) with very high performance (above 50 bhp and a lower compression ratio than 11.5 :1) with premium components. It should be in a streetfighter, adventure and sport genres. All expecting Yamaha to manufacture all their MT07, R7, Tenere 700, MT09,etc... to be manufactured in India atleast gradually. So that Indian public can get real taste of Yamaha without breaking the bank. Also hope Maruthi Suzuki to launch the 3 door Jimny in India atleast in limited numbers for each and every year. If everything is seen based on practicality alone we cannot enjoy good things. There should be options for our people.

I have a question - I have 2019 electra bs4(22000km), recently on a tour to east & north Sikkim realised that 2 19inch wheels (Michelin tyre) with spokes and carborator is not enough to go with a group modern bikes (like Ktm 390,int 650, meteor 350,Honda 200x). Bike doesn't go beyond 100/kmph, loses lots of power in the heights. Even Honda 200x works better than my bullet. I have one advantage -seat & old handle bar which was relaxing. I don't like my foot pegs ( they are very close need them to be far) & gearing/ gear box. I am On an extreme budget. Don't want to buy a new motorcycle. But if I have to buy what bike should I buy? The real competition will be the upcoming rally 390, currently under development.
@HondaRider859 ай бұрын
Yes .....i am looking forward to buy whenever it launches.....it will be a proper adv 390 from KTM.
@martyn_g9 ай бұрын
They can keep it. The engine is a road bike engine - you end up slipping the clutch a heap at lower speed. It likes to be revved hard. This 390 coming out is completely unnecessary- they already produce the 690, which will totally smash the so called 390 “rally’ -WP Explor suspension, lower weight, tank under your ass, and that 690 engine. It’s just KTM milking the consumer.

But why don’t they do flexible indicators like on cheap motorcycles?! This is a bad design because my right indicator broke due to saddle bag’s pressure while off road !
@bigbearbangalore9 ай бұрын
Saddle bag pressure is improper mounting of the bag. Design can't be blamed.

@@bigbearbangalore true accepted sir! But I still don’t see why don’t they provide a lil flexibility! Like how they give in cheaper bikes ,, is there a design road block for this I wonder! Else it’s perfectly sensible to have flexible indicators! Or may be they cost more 🤔

If you keep telling no issues , its alright , no problem when something is an issue in himalayan, dont you think the price is too high to say alright? I rode this bike. Very average switch quality. Wires in the front are not placed properly. Not packed properly.

I share my opinion and you can have yours. And they can be different. No right no wrong. Each to their own.
@avinashprusty75199 ай бұрын
This is too biased. 1. You just cannot justify the phone screen staying On for maps. What is the point of the display if I anyways have to keep my phone screen on? A simple wired andriod auto kind of solution would have been perfect. 2. Low end torque is actually missing. Don't justify by saying what it does after 3k rpm. Its not a sports bike. I need a good bottom end and meaty mid range. Its a adv tourer. It should be able to pull from standstill up an incline with a pillion and top box and pannier, without throttle and clutch modulation. The Vstorm 250 engine is a gem in that matter. The tiger 900 is better than 800 in those terms.
@virajvrooms9 ай бұрын
To the point. Fanboys don't understand these things. It's a 3.5 lakh plus bike been in testing for ages. No idea what they have been testing. For the fanboys: we know you are anyways going to buy one, so get a FuelX once it arrives to solve the low end torque issue. And hopefully wait for RE to update the software. But even then I have a strong feeling. With growing server costs RE will end up charging a subscription fee for the app in future like KTM does. With KTM we still have a global community of developers who come up with DIY workarounds and hacks. Good luck with RE though.

Having tested screencast from the days it barely existed in the mainstream, here is why I beg to disagree this time. Plugging the phone into a charger defeats the whole purpose. If you need to keep the phone exposed anyway, then why have the wireless cast? Should have given the wired casting feature. The phone would get mirrored and charged at the same time from a single port. It is a nifty feature, but RE will have to research the use cases a bit more. The cast's whole idea is to either display content on a bigger screen or have wireless convenience. RE is not providing any here. While riding, phones are meant to be kept in pockets because they're almost a lifeline today. It's a different thing with cars since you are in an enclosure anyway. RE seriously needs to upgrade this to stock Android Auto rather than locking customers to its proprietary app. That way, users could switch off their phone displays, tuck their phones into their pockets, and ride carefree. Rest all, splendid flow of thoughts. Neutral and knowledgeable explanations.
