Mid-life returning motorcyclist here Bosky. It was the triumph for me. I got an ear to ear grin when I test rode it. Most of my planned riding is going to be up in the himalayas with very little highway touring. I just knew it'll be more fund to ride on the twisties. And I wasn't disappointed on my first ride through Himachal and Uttarakhand. The bike lived up to its promise. To me, the triump is more of a successor to the 411 than the 450 is. Not putting down the Himmy here at all. Every rider connects to their machine differently. I just happened to connect with the Triumph over the Himmy. Just like I connect with the Interceptor above all else in the RE stable. There is no better content to watch on motorcycles other than you two gents talking about bikes. and man, that location is amazing. Now, I live up north, and to make it to Coorg on a bike, I might need a Himmy...haha.

I Upgraded to Scrambler 400x from Activa 110, just learned motorcycle on my friends Honda Unicorn for 30 to 40kms and realised i was missing the fun of motorcycling, then after a month i took test ride Scrambler 400x, I felt it was this easy to ride this Big motorcycle and then i booked it and got delivered within a week thanks to Surat Showroom. Just clocked 3600Kms on scrambler 400x, it has each and every level of torque, power kick in at the righ time.i never felt I'm missing low end, mid end or high end torque After software update it become really smoother & company is recalling scrambler 400x for replacing front brake lever so after that even the less confidence on the front brake was also gone. Just loving this beast i highly surprised how easily i got used to this motorcycle. Taken her to ooty last week on turns and corners it works like a charm. I'm in love with this motorcycle and enjoying the motorcyling.

I think both motorcycles are fantastic and cost almost the same in Austria. But I would prefer the RE, better wind protection, navigation on the display and the better seating position on longer journeys. Plus the design, many scramblers have the design of the Triumph but the Himalayan looks so wonderfully different to all the other adventure bikes.

Love your videos! This is the exact scenario I am in and you were spot on with the answer for my situation. My Xpulse is undergoing a piston replacement after it broke down on a recent 3000km journey. So I test rode the Triumph, RE and the KTM. 400x felt to me like a beefed up Xpulse with its torque, seat height (rally seat, stock suspension), and rider's triangle. I instantly fell in love with it.

Actually the opposite is the truth, people who buy either as a single bike, the Scrambler makes more sense as one would be spending a lot of time in commuting vs touring, not even talking about off-roading as that would be something 99.99% of people will never do, mainly cos we literally have roads everywhere. . .
@twowheeledparadox
@twowheeledparadox 11 ай бұрын
@@radarroi27 If I had to have only one bike that does everything, it would be even more important for me not to compromise which the Scrambler 400X seems to be. I would want to buy a bike that can perform the widest variety of tasks. The Himalayan fits that requirement. It can commute, take to the highway and tackle bad roads and rough trails better with its 21" front rim and superior suspension. The Scrambler is not the better choice if you want to venture off road. I have two Dukes so I know how far 150 mm of suspension travel can take you. But yes, if you don't intend to go off road or you just do light trails then the Scrambler is a better. I know it's not an upgrade for me.
@radarroi27
@radarroi27 11 ай бұрын
@@twowheeledparadox just curious as to where exactly do all of you take your bikes to hardcore off roading? Trails, bad roads, yes I know a lot and ride then, but hardcore off roads? Anyways, if your main priority is, say 70%-80% touring including trails with just 20%-30% commuting, then yes, the Himalayan is the perfect choice n the reverse is true for the Scrambler. . .
@twowheeledparadox
@twowheeledparadox 11 ай бұрын
@@radarroi27 A trail does not have to be hardcore to max out a bike's suspension. There is a trail not far from where I live. It branches off the Faridabad-Gurgaon road. It has some ruts and some rocks embedded in it but on my mildly modified 200 Duke (in my profile pic) I can reach 50 kmph until I reach a bump or a rut that bottoms out the front suspension really hard. On the same patches, my friend with the old Himalayan had no issues. Those with modified Xpulse 200s hit 70 kmph on that trail but I am not a hardcore off-roader. For reference, you can check out Abhinav Bhatt's videos. I have ridden my Duke on some of the trails on which he rode his modified Himalayan 450. High speeds are possible only on straight stretches. On those trails, the Scrambler won't give me much of an advantage over my Duke. The Himalayan will. I tour maybe once every 2-3 months. That alone is enough to warrant a touring-bias in my motorcycle. Points to the Himalayan again for my usage. I commute almost daily on my Interceptor. Its engine provides excellent midrange torque which is what is most used while commuting. Whichever bike has that will commute well.

Recently completed motorcycle ride of Sikkim with my wife on Himmy 411. Flew to Bagdogra, then picked up the rental bike from Siliguri, then onwards to Darjeeling, Pelling, Gangtok, one day local sightseeing in Gangtok & took permit for North Sikkim via agent, rode to Lachung & back. Got to see the destruction caused to Chungthang dam which was completely washed away during monsoon/flashfloods. Couldn't go the Nathula/Lachen/Yumthang valley as the roads were blocked. Needless to say it was cold as hell. Had fun nonetheless! I was planning to buy one of 2 but now mystery has intensified even more 😢

Bought 6 days back Scram (80-100 km/hr is best all time) and so much happy. As a RE user for 9 years 350 ThundrBird and 68k kms, I will suggest watchers to think 3 times before going to RE, not saying it’s bad but smooth engine will always reduce efforts and boosts ride pleasure 🎉 Love Scram ❤

Even if the 2 bikes are not meant to be compared but Indian riders end up doing so because most riders come from middle class families and its not possible for them to maintain 2 different bikes for different purposes and scenarios. Most try to go for one single bike that falls within their budget while managing to cover most of their requirements with that one bike. Sometimes they end up comparing bikes from 2 different categories to understand which one will fulfill their purposes the most. The comparison is not always about "Market and Media" instigating misplaced comparisons. Kudos to the answer at the end of this particular topic, "I think it is the buyer's pocket that is causing the confusion". No truer words have been spoken.

Very pleased to have discovered your amazing comparison video, which demonstrates true depth from experience. I've been riding a Bullet 500, a hefty, bulky motorcycle, since 2013 and wanted something comparable. I will bypass the Scarmbler in favor of the Himalayan because touring is what I intend to do with my next motorcycle. The comparision would be skwed towards Triumph if it brings a Tiger 400x with Bajaj. I strongly believe they should have brought in a Tiger 400x instead of the scrambler as Sramblers are not that popular in India.

I test drove both the bikes just 2 days back and reached the same conclusion as you said. Himalayan is more intimidating at first but the way that engine pulls the suspension feels the relaxed sitting posture the comfortable seat it just add up nicely. Left me with a big smile and at the end of test drive. (RE purist might not like the engine but to me coming from 160cc suzuki I enjoyed the fast revving nature, dont like thumpers in general) The same didnt happen to me when i test drove scrambler later in the day. Its a good bike for the price infact better at finishing than Himalayan but it didnt speak to me like how himalayan did. And the bike indeed feels small (for a 6 footer) My priority was comfortable touring anyway so naturally inclined towards Himalayan. Hoping to be an owner soon. And big thanks to all your videos ❤, these conversations between you helped me paint a clearer picture about the 400cc segment.

You guys do regular long distance touring. I would like to understand how do you deal with chaffing? The biggest issue when i tour over long distances is the sour bum due to sweating. That is the only thing that stops me from going further. I tried using anti-chaffing powders but with very little success. How do you avoid/reduce that? Do riding pants help reduce it over say a normal pair of jeans? Do cycling shorts help? Your inputs would be really helpful. Thanks.

I use riding pants with inner trunks. No issues with excessive sweat nor any chaffing.
@SeleniumGlow
@SeleniumGlow 11 ай бұрын
Use cotton halfpant. Powder it up if sweating is a major issue for you. Edit: nevermind, I read that powders didn't help. You probably needs tighter yoga pants which stick to your skin and let the outer fabric rub with the riding pants.

Movement between pant and skin causes chaffing. Use motorcycle inner tights and it likely can help.

I had booked a Himalayan 450 in Nov and cancelled in Jan. In-between I had observed 450 owners in utube and found many issues. I was not convinced with the absence of tubeless rims and over weight which was a big draw back in city riding. Himalayan is 70% for offloading and rest for city riding. Tell me who can spend their daily life on touring? I found 400x ticking all my requirements. It is more of a city bike and less of a touring. I am sure most of the Himalayan owners will not use for touring purpose frequently. Also I found the Himalayan shape to be bit strange and becomes a odd man out among the latest bikes in india. So far no regrets and happy to go for 400x.

Thank you for Bosky and CK for yet another video that surpasses all the BS 1,2,3,4,5,6 and gets straight to the point based on logic, facts, and experience. Please keep this content coming. Couple of thoughts I had when watching this. - The Scrambler 400X target group is interesting because it appeals to riders coming from lower capacity bikes. But it also appeals to those who have bigger bikes in their stables and are looking for a second bike that they can be used more carefree, especially when exploring B and C roads and trails. In that sense, is the availability of parts better for the mid-capacity motorcycles as compared to their higher capacity cousins? - To the point you made after sitting down, I think it was much needed. I have never understood what reviewers mean when they talk about vibrations and buzziness. Probably because my first motorcycle was the old RE cast-iron 350 with the gears on the right and I did a fair share of riding with that workhorse. Over time, I’ve accepted vibrations and buzziness as part of a motorcycle’s personality and without it, I feel something is missing. I obviously haven’t had the privilege of experiencing extremely refined motorcycles and that limits my understanding of how a motorcycle has no buzz or vibrations when being ridden in its power band.

Yes the 400X appeals to some of those who have bigger motorcycles. I have a V-Strom 650 and the 400X is a second motorcycle for having a little more fun on some tricky roads. The weight, cost and the ease of repair is the main attraction. And since I have had the opportunity of experiencing bigger motorcycles, the heat and buzz of mid size don't bother me.

Time has finally come for me to get one of two and to be honest, my heart says Himmy but my head says Scrambler. Such a brilliant product from RE but the two chassis snapping incidents brought back the cloud of fear, anxiety and questions regarding the quality. Now even comes with the the cross spoke tubeless rims but I still cant overcome the fear to get this. And for a motorcycle that nearly cost INR 3.50 lakh or above, the quality is still not at the level of Scrambler 400X or ADV 390. I often wonder why. And no matter what RE says about how the chassis got snapped, it simply should've never happened. Not even once and these are not my words but Shubhabrata Marmar's. I wish I could get the Himmy but Scram it is.

Hello Sir. I am planning to buy a new twin cylinder Royal Enfield motorcycle. Out of the 4 available right now, I am in love with continental GT 650. Is there any update coming to this motorcycle anytime soon? Maybe a new engine / better equipment / more features. Should I put off my purchase for some time? since this bike has been almost unchanged for over 5 years now (except a few color variants / alloy wheels, whatever you covered in this video). Thanks in advance.

I had Himalayan 411 sold it bought Meteor 350 currently struggling unable to do touring hence missing my Himalayan. Tried Triumph 400X bike very light weighted and does 7000rpm easily. The only 2 issues that I am facing is the height as i am 5.7 feet and after driving heavy biles Triumph seems to be very light and i am not sure how it can handle heavy vehicles on the highway. Also tried Himalayan 450 it does have vibrations too, they have not got rid of it. At 5000 rpm there is still vibrations but post that around 6000 and 7000rpm the bike is very smooth. Himalayan behaves differently on the streets and on the highway. Since i am an ex 411 user i strongly think i will move towards 450, eliminating 400X.

Ive test ridden the Scrambler 400X & it's very lite-agile-nimble-plenty of power from throttle on throughout rev range. Great rider triangle for me as I'm 5' 7". Very comfortable bike to ride-suspension I thought was very good-plush compared to my Meteor & certainly better than old Himalayan. It's a fraction of the weight of the new Himalayan. I've had a sit on the new Himalayan as they just come in last week. It's got a lot bigger I feel & it's very heavy-even lifting it off the side stand takes some effort so I'd hate to think what it would be like to pick up laying on the ground. You pay an extra $AUD800 for tubeless spoke rims for Himalyan which takes it's price up to the CF Moto 450 MT which has fully adjustable suspension & tiwn cylinder engine. The other problem for Himalayan is the ridiculous placement of air filter under the tank which requires tank removal to change. Both Scrambler 400X & 450 MT can be changed without removal of tank. May not seem like a big deal but if you're taking it into a dealer the cost will certainly be a big deal. You'd want to change the air cleaner every time to adjust the tappets. I think for fast tracks the Himalayan ok but for tight technically difficult terrain-forget it. Too big & heavy.
