@@freewayproject I remember doing a tramp to a lake up a mountain. I was standing in the lake, due to the wet feet I knew I was there, but still couldn't see it because of the cloud. My legs vanished at the knee. Great fun getting down the following day with gale force winds, hail and snow. Stripped off my wet weather gear and got my fiancée into it as she was a little hypothermic. You're probably getting slightly more aclimatised so maybe able to speak at the top. Definitely way loftier peaks than here.

Another lovely video - really enjoyed it. Thank you. We were in Ladakh last week & were caught by the same road closure on the road to Pangong. There is another road which runs from Khalsar towards Pangong along the other side of the Shyok Rover. It links to the Pangong road after about 20 miles. Its a much shorter route than Khardung La - Chang La, but with many miles of deep sand, so I suspect you may have made the right choice! My video series starts next Tuesday.

Those trucks that dump the black exhaust out the side also dump diesel and as it starts to rain it gets really slippery. That was my last off (on road .. off road doesn't count). I had my Mum on the back and she broke her wrist. Which was a bit of a pain for her, but didn't slow her down. On the road from Pang to Keylong I think (but it was 25 years ago now so I'm not sure). She just said "strap it up and I'll ride". Her hand never went back on straight, it was always about 1 cm displaced. She was so tough. She'd broken her other wrist in a separate event about a week earlier. (Got her foot caught in a luggage strap as she got off the bike and fell head first into a ditch). Both arms were black from fingertip to elbow. So tough.

How many of us would love to be doing what Joe is doing? I definitely would. Another fantastic video & your adventures Joe 😊 I'll be doing similar (probably on my 411) asap. Oh, how long was that dead end dirt track road that you have to return on?
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
Thanks mate, it's great to hear you enjoyed the episode. It's definitely worth getting here if you can. I think it was about 20km in before I had to turn around.
@keepitreal1547Ай бұрын
@@freewayproject 20kms isn't too bad, I wondered if it was many many more. Yes sure pal, only I'm unable to start my adventure yet, as I've two elderly dogs to consider & put first, they're 12 & 14. It's a difficult time as I'm all set & ready, so in a kinda limbo...but the dogs have to come first. The time will come, I just have to be patient. I’m sure you’re all over it Joe but how about using your rear bag on your bike as your tripod? Resting your camera on there and using a delayed shutter should work (unless it’s really windy). Loving the Himalayas. Dean

No, no la vi en su momento, pero fui y eché un vistazo. Es una gran roca, por suerte la pequeña la sostiene. Gracias por mirar.

Hey Joe I am watching your videos from the New Zealand series so I want to tell you that if you have come to india why don't you go to the north eastern part of india which is also the most unexplored part of india which is also rich in culture and you would like the northeast as it's also part of Himalayas if you are planning to go their then please tell me in the comments
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
Hi mate, a few people have already told me about the north east and how good it is. As I could only get a visa for one month I can only explore one small part of India, but there is so much more to explore so I'll be back again (probably several times) to explore other areas the north east being at the top of the list. I hope you are enjoying the series.

Epic video. Another great adventure. Breathing at 17000 feet is task. But at altitude the thought process becomes interesting. Did you get altitude sickness

Lovely looking hair! Good on ya mate! 😁 Amazing images as always! My heart says I must go do this myself, but my head keeps reminding me I'm 70 yo and may not be up for it. I won't know unless I try, right? Oh ya.... You are using your phone for navs, and not the built in Himalayan feature? Why?
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
There is a reason I keep a cap handy 😂. I think you'd be fine at 70, there are so many new roads here you don't have to go off road. They have groups you can ride with (tours) have guides support van etc.. .definitely worth doing.
@filipeademirmartins7683Ай бұрын
olá Joe, seus vídeos são ótimos. Sugiro apenas passar as imagens mais devagar. Quando você passa muito rápido de uma cena para outra mal conseguimos ver o cenário todo.
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
@retiredwaterdoctorАй бұрын
You did find the road to nowhere....I knew it existed somewhere. As always, great video. I am not the photographer of the skill set you are, and never reached those altitudes.....When I climbed for a bit and was winded, I would take several real deep breaths and then hold tight for a shot. Was wondering if that would work at those altitudes? I know the new 450 would be better on the paved roads, but, how is the slow stuff and rough roads compared to the 411 model? Garth
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
haha yes i did find nowhere. The 450 is way better off road as the suspension has been massively improved. There controlled the rebound so you can take a lot more speed through the rough stuff and it has gets through it way better. I am going to do a review of the bike at the end of the series.
@flyingkiwi215Ай бұрын
Magic cinematography as always Joe. Thanks for sharing your ride with us. Is the Himmy you are riding still on the factory CEAT tyres? You and they, seem to be handling all the different terrain pretty well.
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
Thanks mate, it's great to hear you enjoyed the episode. Thanks for watching. Yes on the stock tyres, there getting the job done, I just don't want to come across deep mud, I think I would be pushing there limit in that.

Thanks Lyndon, it's great to hear you enjoyed the episode. You can tell the 450 was build for riding up here. It is definitely a step up from the previous version. I'll do a review of the bike at the end of the series, but the suspension has really improved the performance off road.

Loving every episode. Been debating a trip up north but not sure whether to go on a group trip, for peace of mind, or solo, for freedom of choice of routes and pace. No mechanical knowledge, so tending to the group tour. Will you be posting an episode covering do's and don'ts, permits, insurance and gpx of your trup? Also, everone seems to do these trips on a Himalayan, would you say it is doable on a 125cc bike? So much easier to handle (and pick up) 😊. Keep the adventures going!!
@freewayprojectАй бұрын
Hi Peter, I am going to do a video at the end of the series on doing the trip as a first timer to the area, what I learnt, things that might help etc.. I think most people use a Himalayan as they are reliable and there is always someone in every village that can fix them if needed. Also they have that low end torque. You'd be fine on a 125 but avoid anything too steep.
@MalHansonАй бұрын
Doing that trip on a 125 would make it even more of an adventure! It looks like you're never go fast anyway, and having something light would be good in some of the rougher stuff. You would probably want to make sure that the bike was fuel injected though, so you didn't have to muck about doing carb jetting at the bottom & top of the passes.
