Himeji Castle Was Not What We Expected 🇯🇵

Our road trip across Japan continues as we explore the city of Himeji. The day begins, as it often does, at a coffee shop where we meet a group of children carrying a portable shrine as part of a Japanese thanksgiving celebration. We have a chat we them before continuing onwards to Himeji Castle, the most famous and well renowned castle in all of Japan. Having undergone a lot of restoration in 2015, the castle has been returned to its original state and has the most intact defensive structure of any castle in Japan. We admire it whilst climbing steep staircases up six floors to the top where a shrine and incredible view awaits us. Feeling peckish after exploring more of the castle grounds and gardens, we go to a Japanese bakery for a spot of lunch before picking up some fruit in a Japanese supermarket. We finish the day at the Nadagiku Shuzo sake brewery where we embark on an interesting albeit slightly strange self guided tour, learning about the creation and storage of Japanese rice wine. After finally finding the shop, we enjoy some much appreciated free samples in the shop before calling it a day.
