Hinderer New Gen Detent problems, and a mini Wharncliffe XM-18 Review

The older gen Hinderer's just need a slightly deeper detent drilled in the blade, but on ther knives may need a new detent ball or adjustment of where it's sitting in the lockbar. Some just need more lock tension, and some might just need a deeper hole in the blade, possibly a combo of all of them, hard to say without seeing it. Thanks for the comment brother 👍

Very possible, maybe this one just slipped out? Most I've seen don't have this issue, but as you mentioned these are from the newest batch.

Thanks for the support, means a lot!

Very possible, just strange. Not sure if it's being a little too picky, but at that price point even Rick's price that's justifiable IMHO. Thanks for the comment, hope you've been well!

The detentes are strong on alll 3 of my XM18's and they also have some lock stick issues so far. I wonder why, since it's steel against steel. It does seems to be getting better as the weeks pass. I have a couple 3 inch Skinnys and they are just the right size. My 3.5 Non-Flipper borders on almost being too large

I'll have a good look when I get home. Thanks for pointing it out 👊

I love the wharncliffe i can't decide if I want the 3 inch or 3 1/2 though. I love my spanto 3 1/2 so I am thinking of going that way.

I think that cut out issue has to be from them hand cutting the lock bars. I don't see how they could be cut on a mill and get past their QC. I could definitely be wrong though!! Great video as usual

I noticed that on the blue knife that it looks like the right edge of the pocket clip blank (side towards the pivot) might be a little less than straight. Pause the video at 5:29 and have a look.

I'd have to agree! No doubt Hinderer knives makes a fine tool, but Chris Reeve would of never shipped that out the door. Can't wait to see it in non-flipper!

my XM18 sticks just like that. I can flip it but cannot open the blade with thumb studs at all. is this just a break in thing?
@KENAHIGHLANDER6 жыл бұрын
How can you be contacted for work? I am wondering if the detent can be tightened?

Man, i just got my first hinderer, payed $625 on secondary market!!! And it has detent stick as bad as yours! It nakes me SICK! i looked at the detent ball under a microscope and the ball has a flat spot wearing on it...which is whats causing it i believe! I jist messaged hinderer yesterday and am waiting on a response! Maybe ill try hammering the ball down a tiny bit....idk i am PISSED!

I just paid 595 for a brand new fulltrack. Everyone is saying theres a breaking period but the detent is so tight it hurts my finger to try to flip it open. Will it truly break in so it flips like butter because right now it's a tough flipper to press down. The pivot screw isnt too tight.. and I've oiled it ever so slightly. Any suggestions on how to get this thing so I can depress the flipper without killing my finger? Thank you!

I just got a three and half inch with a super tough detent. It flips like a champ (just rockets outta there), but deploying with the thumb stud is next to impossible.

me too. did you ever get a fix?

Are you currently receiving XM-18s for detent work? I have a 3.5" Slicer that I'd like to have a stiffer detent.

My new spearpoint has pretty weak detent. Maybe 20% better than the the two I have a couple years ago. I'll send it to you to mod if you want to check out the new grind. 👊 frustrating I thought the new gens or this one would be gtg.

You know, with Rick trying to produce more knives, it could be the start of a decline in QC. Not saying it is but that tends to happen as scale increases.

Ha! Your's should be wrapped up in the next couple days!
@pannan802 жыл бұрын
At this price there shouldn't be this much variation in the quality. My 3" almost rips the lockbar of when flipping it...and there's play back & forth in the pivot. A good warranty is not a substitute for quality control!

Lol. The last video I watched was all about how hinderer's have such a weak detent. Now this video about how strong they are!

Hinderer makes a great product that's very useful, but you'd never see Chris Reeve send a knife out with that fit and finish. what say you? In any event , I'd be proud to carry any of the three, and I'm sure they'd fulfill almost everybody's EDC needs...... Flaws and all !!!
@bankmind809 жыл бұрын
Yes he has, I've had atleast 16 Sebenzas come and go through my collection straight from dealers or directly from Chris Reeve and atleast 7 of them had some shit fit and finish issues. Yes, even so called perfectionist Chris Reeve will send out lemons sometimes.
@citygreek1659 жыл бұрын
+bankmind80 without making this a contest I've owned, handled, and gifted significantly more Sebenza then you speak to, and have never had 1 problem, that said Hinderer knives are a great product, and i don't discount your experience with Chris Reeve knives....What's a shit fit and finish issue BTW

Nitpicking or not, but this kind of flaws are not what you may expect for the price you'll be paying. CR gets all his knives at the cliënt 100%. Despite the much larger numbers that CR sells. You pay for that. I should expect the same for Hinderer knives.

From what I've seen and heard, the company is not one that deserves the adoration it gets. It should make one wonder if Mr. Hinderer, who is a great designer, has any consideration for the people who put food on his table and roof over his head. Or, is he unattached from the production end of the business.
