Every note you teach ma'am is like meditation. Compeletely surrendered to the note in that moment. Thank you for teaching. People who are passionate about music really enjoy learning every second of the lesson.

You have a clear idea of what you are talking about You have a good capability to teach. Best is for the last: You have a melodious voice. Best teacher is one who makes the topic easy for the student to grasp. You are more than a best teacher.

Hi, thank you so much for this upload. I have started learning Carnatic vocal since last couple of yrs at the age of 38. I understand that there is a long way to go. I am curious to know when would I get the spark of identifying ragas? :) How long did it take for u to learn music and then identify a Raga? Just curious.
@samamoments2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad to know that you are engaging with music lessons as an adult learner. I personally believe that there is no age to start learning music, although one needs some commitment to make singing as a daily practice, at least for 15 minutes. I have been learning ever since childhood, and honestly identifying raaga happens with consistent exposure to sruthi, knowledge of swaras and practice (and this is where a teacher plays an important role). Imagine a raaga to be a person (although a more elusive one). How would you come to recognize a person with their proper name, physical features, designation, and much more? By constantly engaging with them. Imagine you are meeting someone today and then meeting them after one year - that's not going to help much in getting to know them better, right? So, if you are working with a raaga, say Maaya Maalavagowlai, my suggestion would be to stay working on that raaga for a considerable amount of time (minimum 3-4 months) and listening multiple songs/kritis in the same raaga, without hopping raagas. This is easier said than done in this day and age, where we pretty much have access to any music at any time. But not impossible with some discipline, perseverance, patience and belief in a good teacher. I hope this was helpful. Best wishes for your musical journey! :)

Thank you for taking time to reply and providing valuable guidance on how to learn a raga. I also like the analogy that you gave. And am happy to read your encouraging words. Thanks a ton. I hope, someday, I will get to identify a Raga of a song.
