A daughter’s journey distilling the nectar of the stories and songs she heard as a child. Weaving ancient texts in the fabric of modern life. Rediscovering the land of her childhood, absorbed from her mother, where religion was synonymous with the celebration of life, in all its colours. Journeying from the Himalayas to the Peninsular India, through rivers, mountains, forests, caves. She meets many practitioners. Each conversation reveals unfathomable depths to seemingly simple rituals she inherited. The nature of life. Why we are born? Why we die? What is change? And what amidst Life’s constant flux is the One.... constant, unchanging, unmoving?
This cinematic journey creates an experimental rendering of one of the Earth’s oldest spiritual traditions. Come. Wander. Experience.

Yeah of course as long as you like your gods that you worship have these characteristics!!!! Reply to this then. Yes, that's right. Hindu "gods" rape women according to Hindu scriptures. One must ask, how can someone worship these "gods" even though they raped women? I'd certainly lynch these criminals if they were around now in these times. Here are quotes taken from the Hindus "divine" scriptures: "One day the sage Atri was performing tapas with his wife Anasuya. Brahma, Visnu, and Siva came and offered him a boon, but Atri remained silent, meditating. Then the three gods went to Anasuya. Siva had his linga in his hand, Visnu was full of erotic feeling, and Brahma was beside himself with desire, saying to Anasuya, 'Make love with me or I will die.' When she heard this coarse speech, Anasuya made no reply, for, although she feared the anger of the gods, she was true to her husband. But they were overcome with delusion, and they raped her by force. Then she became angry and she cursed Siva to be worshipped as a linga, Brahma to be worshipped in the form of a head, and Visnu to be worshipped as feet, in order to ridicule them all, and she cursed them all to be reborn as her sons. Because of this, Siva was reborn as Durvasas." -- Bhavisya Purana 3:4:17:67-78. "Formerly the gods lusted for Gautama's wife and raped her, for their wits were destroyed by lust. Then they were terrified and went to the sage Durvasas [an incarnation of Siva], who said, 'I will remove all your defilements with the Satarudriya Mantra [an ancient Saiva prayer].' Then he gave them ashes which they smeared upon their bodies, and their sins were shaken off." -- Padma Purana 4:101:174-9. ".... Indra raped Ahalya and was cursed by her husband, the sage Gautama, to lose all his prosperity ...." -- Brahmavaivarta Purana 4:47:11-45.

I came to this film in an almost turbulent state of mind. Within a few minutes, I began to feel a little calmer. Shortly after, I felt peace. A film lifting a person from a negative to a positive state of mind can only be termed a success. Akanksha, the very experience of watching your film has been peaceful. And I have yet to complete watching it. I would call your tribute to your parents a prayer. God bless.

Hinduism is not a religion its spirituality, its a thought, its a way of life, its more than what we can think! Swami Satyananda is right, India is not just a nation, it's mother. If you want to experience that love come to India. I have visited over 40 countries, never got that peace and satisfaction what i feel in lap of mother India. Thank you India. You are the heart of the world.

Having been born, studied, traveled and experienced a lot in India for the last 23 years during this lifetime , I have only one phrase to describe 'life' in my country : " Meaningful Chaos ". I have seen more " wise " people on the streets of my country than in the corridors of prestigious universities. This video is probably the only one of it's kind because it brings out the very essence of the vedic wisdom without getting entangled in the details. I really cannot believe that someone has actually pulled it off so beautifully. Hats off to the team. Hope life will take you to greater heights. " YATHO VAACHO NIVARTHANTHE APRAAPYA MANASA SAHA ".

Such a beautiful and wise film, Akanksha. Watching it feels like seeing the sacred dance of life unfold. It was a special treat to see the American teachers of Vedic wisdom, Laura Plumb and Bhava Ram, included with such brilliant and delightful sages as K. V. Subramanyam. May you make many for films of this depth and artistic quality. And may their distribution be wide, too.

Dear Akanksha, a beautiful video. There are various ways one can attain spiritual awakening - by rituals, by knowledge of vedas, by worshiping. Experience is the world’s best teacher. I totally agree with KVS. Can you be happy within yourself - regardless of what others think about you or talk about you, regardless of your imperfections & shortcomings? If so you are awakened. If your happiness depends on others or the material world, then its not happiness, its attachment / co- dependency. Proud to be born in India 🇮🇳 Proud of what India has given to the world - the Vedas.

HI Akanksha : Congratulations !!!! This is a beautiful film -- in less than 50 minutes you have beautifully described Sanatan Dharma (BTW as Swami Satyananda explains in the film, I try to avoid using the word 'Hinduism') . . . Commentary, interviews, video shots, landscapes, the chants, the music -- everything is perfect . . . in particular, about 6 minutes commentary at the end accompanied by Raag 'Bhairavi' in the background is deeply touching. Sanatan Dharma or the Vedic Dharma is grossly misunderstood, even by its so-called followers, not to mention by foreigners. In Sri Aurobindo's words: "The highest spirituality indeed moves in a free and wide air far above the LOWER STAGES OF SEEKING, which is governed by religious FORM AND DOGMA. . .But man does not arrive immediately at that highest [spiritual] inner elevation and, if it were demanded from him at once, he would never arrive there. At first he needs lower supports and stages of ascent; he asks for scaffolding of DOGMA, WORSHIP, IMAGE, SIGN, FORM, SYMBOL, SOME INDULGENCE and permission of mixed half-natural motive on which he can stand while he builds up in him the temple of spirit. Only when the temple is completed CAN THE SUPPORT BE REMOVED, THE SCAFFOLDING DISAPPEAR. . . It is only if we have a just and right appreciation of THIS SENSE AND SPIRIT OF INDIAN RELIGION that we can come to an understanding of the TRUE SENSE AND SPIRIT of Indian culture." ("The Foundation of Indian Culture", p. 122) The film will allow not only foreigners but many Indians too of all faiths understanding the true import of this age old philosophy, religion, spirituality, Dharma, or the 'Way of Life'. I have already watched it at least a dozen times since I accidentally found its link on facebook. Thanks again for bringing out this great work for the world to enjoy. Amal Gupta ( Boston, USA)

Akanksha's creation far exceeds my own vision of juxtaposing, synergizing and harmonizing everything so beautifully that I am expressionless. I identify myself completely with it. My book Seed of Genius also focuses towards this inner self-awareness and optimizing ourselves while on Planet earth. Each one of us must spend the 50 minutes watching and imbibing this, without interruption, as Akanksha's creation is a meditation in itself. Please share after watching and not as a mere reflex action of liking and sharing.

Watched it. Loved it. It has been made with a lot of love and affection. Most of the protagonists are people from outside India who have been influenced and have chosen to adopt the Hindu way and live in India. They have come under the influence and learnt the ways from scratch. They have thus tasted the nectar, and have decided that this is the aim of their existence. The film maker has had the Hindu tradition handed down to her through family rituals and elders’ stories. Now she has embarked upon a journey to delve into the truths behind the tales. What better analysts than those who have chosen to renounce their previous ways of life and adopt the Hindu way. Their approach is objective, and they go straight for the jugular, without getting bogged down in anything whose essence they do not understand. Yes, it is a soul-led approach to a way of life, not a set of rules and customs. It is an experience that lightens and uplifts. It is a child’s tribute to her Baba and Amma. As such, we see a lot of reserve and restraint in Akanksha; in her words, in her voice; more awe and less dance. Some of us miss the childlike abandon, but we understand that it has been sacrificed to respect and gratitude.

Hindu Nectar is like being served hot piping chai on a cold winter morning - a reminder of home that invokes a sweet longing for....for the forgotten, for the deeply buried memories and for the missing pieces of one's self. It helps that the visuals are gorgeous and Chinmaya's background score is appropriately haunting. This 45 minute film confirms that India is not a nation, India is a spiritual proposal, a way of dropping the self and finding the Infinite. Cannot wait to see what else Akanksha will manifest in the future!

***** Well done! I wish you would also go up in the himalayas around Uttarkashi, valley of saints. Also some Vedic schools where there is authentic Vedic Chanting in the traditional Manner. There are numerous new studies which show the harmonizing influence of Vedic mantras and yagyas in the environment. Unfortunately the art of Vedic chanting is diminishing, perhaps you could help in the revival by making it part of your future docus. The background score is beautiful!!

Those beautuflly colored robes are themselves a binding, sutras maybe be themseleves a distraction to the present and unhidden truth. now..and now and nowhere else than the present. I've been stung by "Mother" devotion until I realized (with quite a bit of shame) I had been talking to myself all along. Now she's kinda a huckster IMHO.

This is one of the best, if not THE best, films I've ever seen. In it "I" can see the possibility of my "Self". A wakeup call to Infinity.

Maya, Atma, Moksha, if you encounter these words frequently in your life - Hindu nector is for you..Hindu nector will take you to the journey, and this is not India's journey, this is not the journey of Hinduism. It's you. It's your own journey. It will take you to your own inner silence. It will shake you from your core. If you are done with watching movies, watch Hindu nector and your thirst would be filed. Thanks Akanksha for giving this marvelous masterpiece.

This movie is nourishment of the soul. We use this to teach people basics of Hinduism. Akankasha Ji you should have added just one more Rigvedic Shloka to give this documentary completeness "Indram Mitram Agnim Ãhu atho; Dhivya Sah: Suparnah Garûthman...E'kam Sath Viprah: Bahudhãh Vadhanthi, Agnim; Yama Matharisvãnam Ãhuh: -- Rig Veda - Verse I-164.46- For me Ekam Sat Viprah Bahudhah Vadanti - Truth is only one & wise know it by different names.. is one of the most important statement of ancient Indian thoughts... Thanks for making this movie..

Thank you Akanksha Joshi and all others who contributed in making this video, this beautiful creation, possible and available. The influence of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan (whom you have dutifully referenced) is unmistakable, particularly "Sourcebook of Indian Philosophy".

***** "The unquestionable content of the experience is that about which nothing more can be said. Indian scriptures give cases of teachers who dispelled the doubts of their pupils by assuming an attitude of silence on this question. When we hear enthusiastic descriptions about the ultimate reality, let us remember the dictum of Lao Tze that he who knows the Tao way may be recognised by the fact that he is reluctant to speak about it."..."God is too great for words to explain. He is like light, making things luminous, but himself invisible. And yet cannot afford to be absolutely silent. Though the tools of sense and understanding cannot describe adequately, creative imagination with its symbols and suggestions may be of assistance. The profoundest wisdom of the past is transmitted to us in the form of myths and metaphors which do not have any fixed meaning and therefore can be interpreted as life requires"...."If experience is the soul of religion, expression is the body through which it fulfils its destiny". [All excerpts from "A sourcebook of Indian philosophy" - Dr S Radhakrishnan, Charles.A.Moore]. Thanks again, to all at Hindu Nectar and to you specifically for having devoted two years of your life in generating such a beautiful expression.

Akanksha, and everyone who made this movie: Thank you for taking us through this deep and stirring journey in such a short time. May this movie reach many more people. The visuals were arresting, the voiceover was sincere and engrossing, and the background music overwhelming. Loved Mr KVS. His words, conviction and clarity won me over. It is not an academic overview, not an intellectual treatise, but watching this movie was like experiencing the essence of what many term as Hinduism.

This movie has stirred something within me and the spiritual expounding from the wise ones are thought provoking. Sadly some indians are ashamed of their heritage and are instead looking westwards. Worse, they are trying to convince many young indians to do the same. Let more people awaken to whats within. 🙏

Thank you for the beautiful scenes and sounds. I live far away from India, but when, on my walks, I see a tree, I pause under it and sing the following Tree Prayer and then the locus under the tree becomes India for me: धत्ते भरं कुसुमपत्र फलावलीनां घर्मव्यथां वहति शीतभवां रुजां च / यो देहमर्पयति चाऽन्य सुखस्य हेतोः तस्मै वदान्यगुरवे तरवे नमस्ते // dhattē bharaṁ kusumapatra phalāvalīnāṁ gharmavyathāṁ vahati śītabhavāṁ rujāṁ ca / yō dēhamarpayati cā’nya sukhasya hētōḥ tasmai vadānyaguravē taravē namastē // I bow my head in respect to you, O, Tree! You are my guru In how you generously bear the weight of leaves and flowers and fruits For the sake of others, In how you bear the hardship of the summer heat And the pains of the winter afflictions, For the sake of others, And in how you offer your body and life at the end For the well-being of others. I'm glad I clicked this video. Wonderful film, enlightening. All of the people featured in it speak well about their understanding of Sanatan Dharma, particularly KVS ayya speech is stirring my inner soul. I'm still a small person struggling to understand the wisdom behind his words, but it definitely reassures my faith. I would like to hear from him more.
