I came across this information from a spiritual guru' s video on youtube. He said that the deities no longer live in the heaven. They were all created by our sages and most of them arent alive bcz they havent be kept alive by tantra and mantra. Thats why your devotion towards those idols wont work. He said to realize your atman and do good karma. I think i kind of agree with him.

If anyone would love to know the "ORIGIN OF GOD" in Hinduism,I would like to share a little that I know- This goes back to a time in universe when everything was only a singularity, fully zero matter ! At one point, from that power of singularity Lord Vishnu was formed. But he didn't know why he was created and he was all alone in vastness. He travelled ages and ages in zero alone. There was also a power who was travelling inside Vishnu's navel. Then one day, the power inside his navel came out and took its birth and he is known as Lord Brahma. After birth,Brahma's eyes fell directly on Lord Vishnu and he said "I am happy to see that there is someone born second to me. Thanks that I'm not alone here anymore. Finally I met someone." To this Vishnu got furious and told "No, I was the one who created you" (Till this point no one knew what their origin is or who was second to whom). Battle started and this got aggressive. Then suddenly a Big Black Rugby like Black formation was formed infront of them which was covered with fire. They were surprised to see its power and force. That formation pronounced a sound and it told Brahma,Vishnu "Let me decide which one of you is the strongest and mighty. The one who can find the start or end point of my origin will be the winner". Hearing this, Vishnu went to find the end and Brahma went to find the beginning point of that strong presence. Both Vishnu and Brahma travelled around and through that power for many years. Vishnu got tired of finding nothing and returned to his battlefield. Whereas, Brahma who also couldn't find the start thought of lying, so that he can be declared as the winner. He had the ego of being the only Creator. Vishnu admitted that he lost to that strong power and all he could find inside of it was infinite knowledge that has neither death nor beginning. It was omnipotent. Whereas, Brahma with his ego said "I successfully found the starting point of that formation.I am the strongest" Then, there happened something they had never thought of before. The black powerful force manifested into his original form and formed into someone you know as Lord Shiva. Shiva furiously questioned Brahma- "Did you really find my start? Don't you lie Brahma because I am infinite. I have no start and no end. I am the strength whose description is never ending. So,how can you find my start? You in your ego lied to Vishnu just because you think yourself as the Creator. I curse you that though you create all the planets, life and galaxies, devotees in future will only know your name but no one will pray you. You both were created from my Black immense force only. This is your origin and this is where you started from. You searched for years but now you gained all the infinite knowledge about this universe by travelling inside me. You should know now what is your role in this universe. Similarly, I'm also equal to you. I just have a different role and reflection. To this they learnt everything. Their roles: Brahma: Creator Vishnu: Preserver Shiva: Destroyer They are the same 'One' power just with 3 different reflections so as to perform the three most basic function of the universe. So anyone who prays to even any 'one' of them, is praying to that 'One' singularity. [ I personally feel that this power is the black hole which is discovered later by science] Later after creation of the universe the 3 reflections of same power - Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh married Saraswati, Lakshmi, Gouri so that all other desires of the universe can be fulfilled by them and their offspring. (These 3 ladies and their forms are known as 'Aadi Shakti'- The core heat strength, warmth, coolness, absolute life-force in our planets/galaxies) Similar is the concept of DemiGods/Devta in Hinduism. This is the creation history from the Hindu book "Shiva Purana". In other Puranas also the creation stories are shown but in a different angle. But they all lead to the same point- The One. This is Hinduism in short. Its infinite. If you comprehend this comment fully, you get to know that Hindu people are also Monotheistic people. We dont have multiple Gods, but we pray to multiple manifestations of the same power. We are pluralistic not polytheistic. We just pray to that power which travel through different origins and beings throughout ages. It's an infinite line of connection. You can pray anyone, the offering and prayer directly goes to that One power. That one power also flows inside trees, idols, rocks, cow, snake, everywhere. For God is approachable anywhere and anytime. 🕉️ .

Sir what you say that there are many deities because there are many ways to god. Sir you need to go beyond Shri Ramakrishna. He had vision of Devi Kali.he had not experienced that Parabrabha which is in each one of us and which you say ‘ experience”. Sir there are many ways to realise self like swami Vivekananda says in his book Rajyoga.it is Bhakti. Samadhi. Dnyan marg. Shriramkrisha belonged to Bhakti marg. All these Devi , devata were humans , they had performed many good karmas giving them Pujya to go to Swarga looks for a certain period of time. Ones that puny a is over, they take birth again as human being. This is the correct way to explain to the kids

A lot of talk, but little substance. The only portion where the speaker said something relevant is the importance of the substance of Hindu religion. This is also called the ‘theological part’. The scriptures reveal that there is only One God. Sri Krishna says that in Bhagawat Gita. Sri Sankaracharya said the same thing ‘A-dwita’ meaning there is no two - there is only one. Sri Sathya Sai Baba said the same thing. The many Gods that they quote are a wrong translation of the term ‘Deva’. Deva means ‘celestials’. They are residents of Heaven. Good humans end up going to Heaven. They are not Gods. God has assigned some of these heavenly residents certain responsibilities in running the universe, such as Vayu who controls the air, Varuna who controls the water, Agni, who controls fire etc. We do give some of these ‘devas’ oblations when doing havan, which is like thanking them for keeping the elements in such a way that life becomes possible on earth. However, they are not Gods. There is only one God - as Sri Krishna says in Bhagawat Gita, ‘at the end, all these mountains will disappear, even the demi Gods will disappear - only I remain.

The Vedas refer to not 33 crore Devatas but 33 types (Koti in Sanskrit) of Devatas. They are explained in Shatpath Brahman and many other scriptures very clearly. They are: 8-Vasu, 11-Rudra, and 12-Aaditya, 1-Indra and 1-Prajaapati. People are vilifing Hinduism with this misconception

Rahejaji, you are absolutely correct. The same is also mentioned in Brihadaranyaka upanishad. Also, these are 'devas' or residents of heven. They are not Gods. They could be called 'celestials', but not Gods. There is only one God in Hindu religion as said in Gita.

Why are you making Gita as the only basis of Hinduism ? Why believe Krishna and not Mother Kali ?? Just because its written in Gita doesnt approve that it is true ? Have you experienced Krishna first hand ?? Its the same thing .....Your mommy is goog for you .....Krishna is your Mommy.....and did you really think that infinite God can be so easily be described by krishna ?? Look at the Universal form of Krishna ?? Each one of them is Krishna ,,,each one of them is Kali....each one of them is the formless Consciousness

The Ultimate Reality ParaBrahman/God is declared by ALL the Hindu scriptures to be omnipotent (sarva-śaktimān), omnipresent (sarvaga), omniscient (sarvajña), omni-benevolent (dayā-sāgara), devoid of all qualities (nirguna), devoid of form (nirākāra), inconceivable (agocara), inexpressible (nirvacanīya) etc. He/She/It is sat (Being), cit (consciousness), ānanda (bliss absolute), ananta(infinite) and amalam (immaculate). Now, having said that the Agama states:- nirākāra tu deveśa na arcanam bhaven nṛnāṁ, na ca dhyānam, na ca stotram tasmāt sākāram arcayet || Which means : “The Absolute Godhead is formless (nirākāra), but meditation, worship and praise of a formless Being is impossible for humans, therefore worship a form (sākāra).” So the Icons (NOT “idols” which is pejorative term used by the Abrahamics to denigrate and traduce Hindu forms of worship!) - are our graphical user interfaces with the Formless Godhead. No idolator in the history of idolatry has ever considered the image itself to be anything other than a SYMBOL of a higher ideal. The icon in itself is simply wood, stone or metal but it becomes sacred through our projection onto it of the notion of Divinity. Just as Muslims do with the Qur’an which becomes an idol and a fetish. If you announce on facebook that you’re having a Gita or Veda burning day - not a single Hindu will turn up or even care or if they did it would be to take selfies. The Gita or the printed copy of the Veda is simply a book from a printing press. But do the same with the other Holy Book and see the reaction - there will be world-wide riots and huge damage of property and life. A book will be burned by some crazy pastor in California and dozens of people will be murdered in Afghanistan - is this not some form of idolatry? The icons/images are made in strict accordance with the directions of the Agama Shastra which are equal to the Vedas in authority. Each and every detail has a symbolic meaning which I won’t go into but which can be found in books on Hindu Iconography. THE JUSTIFICATION FOR ICONS- 1. The Godhead is omnipresent - therefore It is present in the icon. 2. The Godhead is omniscient - therefore It knows that we are worshiping It through the medium of the icon and not the Icon itself. 3. The Godhead is omnipotent - therefore in response to our prayers and out of Its omni-benevolence - It condescends to remain present in the icon to receive our worship. To respond that God is NOT in the icon is to negate His omnipresence. If God thinks we are worshiping the idol instead of him then his omniscience is compromised. If he is incapable of accepting worship through the medium of an icon then his omnipotence is compromised, and if he refuses, then his omni-benevolence is compromised. WHY THERE ARE DIFFERENT GODS IN HINDUISM LIKE VISHNU,RAMA,KRISHNA,SHIVA ETC.?IF SUPREME GOD IS ONLY PARABRAHMAN In a Hindu context what is meant by “worship of Vishnu, ram, krishna.” There are a number of terms used in Sanskrit for this particular activity with a variety of implications. Pūjā/ Arādhana - worship as in making offerings (upacāras) of various types from 5 (scent, flowers, incense, lamp and food) to 108. Upāsana - literally “sitting close to” which is a process of visualization and meditation. Offerings of food, fruit, flowers, incense water and leaves are made as the expression of gratitude to the cosmic forces embodied as the devatas. It’s always a good thing to express gratitude - always! There are 100’s of volumes written on the subject of “worship” known as the Tantras or Agamas - I am vainly attempting to give you a tweet version! The most important aspect of Hindu spiritual practice (sādhana) is Upāsana- visualization and meditation - this is considered to be the highest practice. The fundamental principle of Vedānta philosophy is that we are sparks/rays/ modes or particles of the Divine (tat tvam asi - thou art that). We are reflections in matter, of the Divine Nature, like the sun is reflected in buckets of water. In simple terms God is within us. So the process of Upāsana, also known as Dhāraṇa is to visualize God/Goddess within ourselves and to commune with Him/Her/It. This is known as Deity Yoga Practice. Meditation can be done without using any form. It can be done by focusing on the breath or to contemplate emptiness - but this is very difficult, as our minds are conditioned to be constantly processing data in the form of name (nāma) and form (rūpa). So using form (rūpa) is the easiest and most convenient type of meditation. So what form should we use? We use the form of that deity to which we are naturally attracted and to which we have become attached. If we do not have an specific deity then we consult an astrologer and according to our charts our personal deity can be discovered. So meditation consist of visualizing the chosen deity and reciting his or her mantra is the highest form of worship. This Upāsana is a technical process which cannot be justly dealt with in a brief public post. Iconography is the basis for dhāraṇa or visualization another HUGE subject which I think I may deal with in a blog seeing it is one of the most important and one of the leastunderstood aspects of Hinduism. The purpose of meditation is to bring aboutself-transformation and to become more enlightened and compassionate beings Anything one desires intensely becomes for him, in a sense, a god. This is the true meaning of idol worship. An idol is not a statue or a painting that people use to remind them of some high ideal. Such people are indeed ideal worshipers, not idol worshipers. Idol worship meansto harbor a desire for anything other than God.Every man unless he loves God alone is in this sense an idol worshiper To love somethng or some person, becoz it reminds him of God is a virtue, not a fault. To get to the top floor of a building one must ascend by the other floorsNo one can leap all the way to the top. To feel love for God as He really is, formless and impersonal, is almost impossible for human beings. Such love comes naturally, however, to those who first envision divine perfection in some human form. The important thing in such worship is always to keep in mind that the form one loves (even of a living person) serves one only as a window onto INFINITY.There is nothing wrong or contrary to spiritual truth in using images as reminders of high principles. How many people are able to visualize such abstractions as love or wisdom? The Hindu images are not idols. They are symbols of different aspects of God. Their very variety shows a recognition of the fact that God is infinite in nature. Murti pooja is a prepatory step for a person to concentrate his energies for developing devotion .It prepares a person for higher Vedantic vision of Self Realization of divine bliss through Yoga,Meditation .Idols and Icons Why Murti Should Be Used Instead The Devatas (Gods and Goddesses) as Forms of One Brahman.. Each Hindu Devata has its form, symbols, vahana, yantra, mantra, ritual, meditation and cosmic meaning, reflects all levels of existence. The Devatas (Gods and Goddesses) as Forms of Brahman Hindu Gods and Goddesses, more properly called Devatas or Divine principles, are usually treated by modern scholars in a superficial sense as powers of nature or as imaginary spirits of the primitive… www.vedanet.com/the-devatas-gods-and-goddesses-as-forms-of-brahman/ Hindu Iconography explained This blog is focused on the unpacking and explaining of Hindu Iconography. hinduiconography.quora.com Hinduism greatest gift to humanity is its profound science of consciousness through mantra and meditation Hindu ICONOLOGY explored in depth. Despite it being declared so in the Vedas (the ultimate authority in Hinduism), this guy does not believe God can have an actual form. Actually his claims fly in the face of much of what the Vedas and Upanishads state. He only believes in a formless aspect of God. Not at all the full truth of the Hindu concept of God, where the same one God takes infinite forms in addition to having the formless aspect. So all he says tries to substantiate that as well as all of his own personal beliefs. Highly recommend not to listen to any of his silly rantings. Almost all he says tries to substantiate his own personal beliefs. It is sad that he is seen as some type of "authority." But England especially is stuck since the times of invasion and occupation to promote wrong conceptions of Sanatan Dharm.

With all due respect, the first thing is Vedas are not our ultimate authority and it has never been like bible. I also dont know whether you have studied or even know about vedas or not. The base concept of Brahman is formless. There is an excellent story in upanishad between father and son, where father explains this concept through salt and water. Do you know anything about adwita philosophy or dwita or visistadwita? And here in this video Jay has explained adwita in the simplest form as possible. Hinduism can be monotheism, polytheism or atheism and all of these category people can be a perfectly hindu. I know what you are trying to do here :) and i know that you have no idea about hinduism. One more thing our system do not have belief system unlike west. We are seekers and if you seek and found a way to be one with Brahman you can be next Vivekananda, thats our culture. Hope you got my point here, stop spreading hatred, the fire within you will not burn the neighbors but self. Our culture, tradition and history has been twisted by west but now time has come for us to make things right. Cheers ;)

Arjun M I agree with you.The real spirit of Hinduism is to enable seeking. Hinduism doesn't end with settling with one form or formless type of God. It gives varieties of God options. Some end with a select choice of their God and to those select few it enables them to seek beyond.
