Yes, he was the greatest Sitarist and musician of the 20th C. As a Sitar hobbyist, I have always listened to him and held him as a beacon to follow. Just tuning up the Sitar with one of his pieces is an education in itself.

Ustad vilayat Hussain Khan is greatest Sitar Mayestro of our time! His legendary performance just mesmerized me when I experienced his live programme at Netaji Indoor Stadium in the year 1992. Unfortunately, Govt. of India did not confer him 'Bharat Ratna' till date which should have been given in his life time.

So true about the Bharat Ratna that never came his way. If they had any sense, they will award it posthumously to him and invite his sons and nephews and also Ustad Shahid Parvez to attend the ceremony and perhaps perform one or two pieces together in honor of his memory. That would be such a gracious thing to do for the Imdad Khani gharana who have collectively served the cause of classical music for such a long time.
