Hey I am am about to repott my small sekka hinokis 1 year from cuttings, I was wondering what soil mix/ratio is working for you ?
@PNWBonsai3 жыл бұрын
We have a shop here that developed a particular mix that works well in my area. Its Pumice, red lava and pine bark. The ratio is 2 parts of each. The soil mix really depends on your area/climate. Might want to reach out to others in your area to find what works best where you live!

Looking forward to the future uploads! What kind of pot is that? It looks perfect for training

It's called an Anderson Flat. It came with one of the trees I bought a few years ago. I'm sure their are some resellers online! Thank you very much for watching as well!

I’ve killed several Hinokis repotting. I think I was too aggressive with the root pruning. Did yours survive? Thanks
@PNWBonsai Жыл бұрын
Yes it had. Still kicking and thriving. When were you reporting? Did you do any Pruning or styling before repotting?
@mattbrennan647 Жыл бұрын
@@PNWBonsai That’s good to hear. I actually repotted it today. I went easier on the roots and didn’t bare root it. I also did a light pruning,. About 30%. Now I’m babying it in my unheated garage until I see some new growth. Thanks for your reply. Keep growing. ✌🏻

Hey there, cool video! Where do you source your lava and pine bark from?
@PNWBonsai3 жыл бұрын
There was a Bonsai shop here called Bonsai NW that made their own soil. They have recently closed this past November. The new owners are going to start selling online but not sure when yet!

@@PNWBonsai ah ok thanks for the info! I have a place for pumice, but looking for a good spot for lava and pine park so I can make my own mixes without akadama. Hopefully they re-open online soon!

@@gearshiftx I hope so too! Good luck with the search.

Super awesome. How old is the tree btw? I just bought a hinoki cypress but its only a small tree at the moment. I'm wondering whether to put it in a large bucket to let it grow.
@PNWBonsai3 жыл бұрын
I'm actually not sure the age. I bought this last year at a local nursery. If I had to guess, I would say it might be around 15 to 20 years old. If you are looking to thicken your trunk then I would recommend doing so. Just fertilze heavily every 4 weeks during the growing season and let it grow until you get the desired size of trunk!

This came from a tree I bought from Bonsai NW. I'm looking for a place to buy some as well!

and is it normal that many leaves are brown?
@PNWBonsai3 жыл бұрын
Yep! During the winter, the Hinoki changes to a dark brown, as the spring time hits and the sun is out more, the foliage reverts back to green!

Yo, I am literally about to do this! Where did you find that container you put it in? EDIT: Someone already asked this! You replied: "It's called an Anderson Flat. It came with one of the trees I bought a few years ago. I'm sure their are some resellers online!" Thanks PNW Bonsai!
