The little flute sound at the beginning of each 'Hinterland Who's Who' is mesmerizing and I absolutely love it. I've lived my entire life in Hamilton Ontario (Im 39 now) and these little clips take me right back to my bedroom in 1988 when me and my brother would stay up late and see stuff like this and 'Night Walk' and the Sign off Canadian national anthem cartoon with the flying bird.

Hey, they still played these beauties in the early 2000s out west because we'd see them run on the TV in the morning before we'd pack off to school.

@@chad3358 That's awesome. The first ones the NFB produced are in B & W and go all the way back to 1963, with that same beautiful flute intro.

...thank you for this! I always wondered; this music is part of my childhood and epitomises the memory of Canada for me. It's such a plaintive and quietly soothing piece, perfect for this brilliantly innovative way of introducing oeople to the wildlife of the country...

well, adeleisright (hmmm...), I hate to put the kibosh on that 80s nostaligia trip yr on, but those classic Canadian Wildlife Service "Hinterland" public service announcements actually originated way back in the *Sixties*... they appeared on TV all the time when I was a kid growing up in the Seventies - yes, the 70s! There really was a decade that existed before big hair, pastel-coloured clothes & music videos! loool

Its very true. You go out on the lake, and thats what you hear. And it puts a chill down your spine because you know when you hear that sound you’re in one of nature’s finest places. Countless lakes can give you that feeling, But they only exist here in Canada. We gotta appreciate that more.

-MAN! -Boy, am I ever LET-DOWN!? ~Was expecting this to devolve into a salacious tale of a pack of wild birdz, donning leathers, forming a gang, arming/winging up & hitting the local bank &/or "Hebrew Ice Cream Truck" to liberate all their 25cent friends from decades of horrendous Canadian captivity..... Hinterlands "Crack Spyder" & his hot-rod sounds like a helluva lot more fun.....

@marksgodzilla
@marksgodzilla 6 жыл бұрын
Squibbleses, A little late in reply but in England we call them exactly that. Strange I know. All 5 species of Loon are known here as ... - Black-Throated Diver - Red-Throated Diver - Great Northern Diver - White Billed Diver - Pacific Diver While the first 3 of these can be see around the UK all year round, they can usually only be seen in breeding plummage in the far north of Scotland. All of them stunning birds.

Ideally read by the same narrator. "The Presidentus Americanus, also the known as the Northern Spraytanned Prick, is known for its ability to talk for hours on end without saying anything of any significance. It does this to confuse potential predators & political opponents. When angered or threatened, it's chief defense mechanism is to hurl alternative facts at any attackers & and quickly scurry for cover before they can react."
