The Carpenter's music is what I call "feel good music", you can't listen to their music and be in a bad mood, it's just not possible!

The “Carpenters Sound” came from layering their vocals. On many recordings, Karen and Richard sang all parts, melody and harmony, recorded in layers. It was an awesome sound but was difficult to reproduce in live performances.

Too many people assumed all the carpenters did was ballads, how wrong they are their uptempo songs are as beautiful as their major hits

I was in middle-school when this song was released. It was wonderful listening to this song on the radio. The other major single released from this album that I remember was "Touch Me When We're Dancing."

The Carpenter's “sound” is multiple layers of their voices. Saw a video of someone explaining it and Richard put something like 12 tracks layered for the chorus’

When they were putting the 1981 album Made In America together, they wanted a song similar to Yesterday Once More, so that is how Those Good Old Dreams came about. Basically with the flop of 1977's PASSAGE album, A&M wanted K&R to go back to the "bread and butter" of their past album/singles....

Check out two songs from *after* the end of Carpenters: Something In Your Eyes When Time Was All We Had Both these are from Richard's 1987 solo album "Time". The first one features a lead vocal by Dusty Springfield; the second features stunning BGVs that are all Richard, multitracked into an a cappella choir...

Hey Big F!!! You had me faked out with the fight video because I always thought you a gentle, spiritual type. I kept listening and telling myself two things: "Whaaaa?????" and "Man, did I have YOU misjudged." Nice work; played it straight. I actually love doing that to my friends too. Now, about the sound. I think your term for the Carpenters, their "pocket," is a very creative way to put it. They sound the way they do because Richard was very good at sweetening. The overdubbing of the voices, fine. But he would add fillers at the ends of phrases, whether it be from Tony Peluso's guitar or a trumpet or SOMETHING. He didn't leave a lot of dead zones; something was always happening. Nice that you like this stuff because a lot of rock fans find the music just simply too pretty and, as you said, smooth. Thanks for doing this one. My turntable is not working and I haven't played this song for years; it was a lot of fun to hear again.
