I think the reason the guitar fills and solos in this song are so excellent is they follow the melodic theme of the song. Buried within the fills and solos is the actual melody. That technique is what makes classical music, great movie scores, and classic rock unique; repeated musical themes that are tied together, versus the simple redundant circle of pop music.
@stevedahlberg868018 күн бұрын
As an older white guy in America, I agree with you, I've always loved it when the stereotypes get busted down. If you really want to go underground for a minute, also hugely significant, and a really early marker of exactly what you're talking about, was an influential late-70s black punk band from DC, Bad Brains. I saw them play locally and it was insanely good. Later displaced to New York City because of racism. "Pay To Cum" got them from regional popularity to much more widespread attention. Jello Biafra of the also seminal early punk band the Dead Kennedys had formed a new indie record label called Alternative Tentacles, which became hugely influential. They were even raided by the FBI for being subversive. They embraced and signed the Bad Brains and elevated them for sure. It's fun how all this stuff works together an unpredictable and surprising ways, and influences bands and music and ideas that last for decades. Even when it's a bit behind the scenes.

This song broke many barriers. I was a radio DJ when this came out and it got heavy airplay on my show because, not only was it an incredibly well performed song musically, it had some of the most powerful lyrics I had ever heard. A good friend of mine and I loved to jam this song with each others' bands (we were friendly rivals on bass) and joke about how we were going to replace each other in the bands. The joke was that he was black and I was white and the other members in each band would look a little uncomfortable. It was a great time in my youth 😊.
