Let me rephrase, I grew up hearing Sabbath & every other rock band, I was prolly the only kid in K-2nd grade who knew album names, songs, band members & lyrics to the songs I liked. I wish everyone did this with all genres of music. Music crosses boundaries, it brings energy, joy, raw power emotion. People from completely different walks of life can unite through a song. I guarantee there's not a woman on the planet who can't relate to Dolly Parton's Jolene, either as the girl imploring Jolene to not do it, or as Jolene. I was in 11th grade when Grand Master Flash's The Message came out. I was in a school for "troubled youth", some units were led by regular women but 2 were led by nuns, my friends and I had Sister listen to this song. When it was over she said I hope everyone who hears it learns from it! One of my black friends said u all(white people) got Jimi (Hendrix) & we (black people) got Tina Marie(white singer/rhythm guitar). Another girl said can't we both have both, yes! I'm an old rock/ hard rock/metal head, and I love these videos!

Tony Iommi is largely responsible for the signature sound of modern heavy metal. When he was young he got his hand caught in some type of machinery and lost the tips of his fingers. He almost gave up playing guitar because he was no longer able to apply enough pressure with his fingers, but luckily he learned how to make special metallic covers for his finger tips he could put on over his mangled nubs, He then had to use very thin strings instead of the normal size. As a result the new "hacksaw edge" sound was born, Which you hear in almost every other metal band since Sabbath.

Not only is Toni Iommi a guitar legend, he is missing the tops of two fingers on his left hand - the fretboard hand! Every single member of Black Sabbath is a musical genius in their own right. Bill Ward is one of the best drummers that has ever lived, Geezer Butler phenomenal bassist and lyricist. Even Ozzy with his unusual voice sings in tune and sings just as well live as in the studio. Epic band.

The best drummer today is Gavin Harrison, whose recent work with King Crimson is a must-see. I highly recommend you watch the live performance of Anesthetize from Porcupine Tree if you love metal. This is from the days when a band dared to make a statement about the dangers of their time. The Vietnam War was the beginning of when the news showed real-time footage of the killing to American TV news viewers. Sabbath was so different from anyone else and so powerful. We used to play this before heading outside to play football!

One of the top anti-war songs of the day. The other a year earlier would have been Crosby Stills and Nash doing Wooden Ships. At the time we were living through the Cold War and Vietnam. and the threat of nuclear Annihilation was always on our mind. This song deals with the architects with references to the sheeple. Wooden Ships is the aftermath. I can say after living through that era, and comparing it to today it's much scarier now. Then world leaders understood the consequences. But as laid out in Pink Floyd's Animals album. ( about the book Animal Farm). History repeats and today it is a coalition that actually is pushing for the war with Russia telling the world they will not stop until Russia has been completely demolished. That is hardly talk of peace. But as Ozzy said "poisoning their brain washed Minds." The black and blue concert, Black Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult and Molly Hatchet was the second loudest concert ever attended. Second only to Pink Floyd at the same stadium. it turned out the black and blue concert was a twofer. Black Sabbath the last perform was close to finished when we were hit by a monsoon with 80 mph winds. As equipment was flying in speaker walls falling, the mass Stampede for cover was scary to watch from under our tarps. As natives we were prepared. Likely before anyone even could exit they were announcing on the loudspeakers to keep your tickets stubs they're coming back to do it again for free. Got to admire fan dedication from those bands. ✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️

The interesting thing about Sabbath is they are a deeply Catholic band and as you move through their catalogue, you'll see how that paints their composition and lyrics. Also, Tony Iommi cut the tips off two fingers of his fret hand the day he quit work to do Sabbath full time in a metal pressing accident. So he is playing with two plastic caps on two of his fingers during those epic solos. Their first three albums are heavily blues based. They invented heavy metal. Doom metal. And groove metal.
