This song is about how Corey’s father abandoned him at a very young age. The angriest, heaviest, yet most underrated song on Iowa

MEANING OF METABOLIC: "This song is basically 'Diluted' Part II that is about my dad. It is about being so enraged yet being so impotent because there is nothing you can do about it. "It is about that time of the morning when you are sitting in bed, and you are crying uncontrollably, and you are trying not to feel, but all you can do is feel because every time you shut your eyes, it's there. It is probably one of the most personal songs I have ever written just for the fact that even though I never knew my father and even though I have never met him, I feel like I am turning into him. I have no mental picture of what he is supposed to be, but sometimes I wonder if I am doing the things he used to do. It's definitely a pissed off, heavy, fuck you, I don't give a shit because nobody told me who I was because I had to figure it out for myself song." In Metabolic, Corey is trying to get across that he isn't perfect. This song is a little psychotic because with the quote - "The hardest part was knowing that I could never be you" he is saying he knew he wanted to be like his father, but he was too imperfect to fill his shoes. The quote "My demise, I took a life worth living and made it worth a mockery." is powerful because he took his life, which was in the beginning worth living, and he screwed up so much, he turned it into shit. The quote "I wanna dress in your insecurities and be the perfect you" means I wanna wear your flaws, and be the ultimate You. The perfect man. But it won't happen because I am too imperfect. The quote "Here we go, the ultimate irony." is that he wanted to be his father but now he is nowhere, and he is known by so many, he is important, and his father still hasn't changed. You're in the same place you've always been. The irony factor is if he chose to be exactly like him, he'd be known where I would be too. So, his shitty life, and the shit I was forced to go through has turned out to be worth it in the end.

"is powerful because he took his life" that is not true, Corey met his dad for the first time during or right after Vol.3 has been released. Scarlett, mother of his son Griffin, managed that meeting. www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/corey_taylor_what_was_it_like_to_meet_my_father_for_the_first_time_when_i_was_30.html no mention about Scarlett here but I think it was her that organized it by talking with his mother.

@@Acepilot12345 I feel it's up for personal interpritation. How it speaks to the listener as an individual is going to be a bit different for everyone. I does have a counterintuitive nature, but that is also part of how it can bring individual meaning for each listener. This is all part of why I like it so much. because the sentence conflicts with itself can speak to a person's internal conflicts or it can also not speak to some, if they are stuck on the literal, incongruous meaning.

I did not know slipknot neither stone sour or corey taylor before this month.. And guess what. . I guess I am a fan. Now alot compare Slipknot to Many other European bands especially when it comes to lyrics: and I like to point out that the geographical context makes the lyrics and themes differ .. Maybe there is more universality in european bands(Epica, Dimmu Borgir, Hammerfall), but if we dig down almost same themes are tackled by bands like Slipknot but from a different approach .. This is a humble opinion from experience that is yet to grow more and more ..

This is my all-time favorite Slipknot song (also first one I ever remember hearing). I think part of what makes the songs so heavy and angry is how laid bare it is lyrically. It's not like a typical song of just hate and violence, but feeling like an exposed nerve, confession of self-loathing and mutilation of the psyche that comes from the feeling of rejection and abandonment. It's utterly desperate, and refuses to let itself be ignored or taken lightly for the visceral experience that it is.

Acepilot12345 mellow? I think you're talking about the music itself, because emotionally, Iowa is one of the heaviest songs ever written. Especially when you take into consideration the story behind what Corey did to himself while recording the song. Heavy doesn't always equal loud and aggressive music. Iowa could be acoustic and it would still be one of the heaviest songs ever.

We need Alex to react to Slipknot self titled. I think he will absolutely love it. He mentions Corey's rapping in some parts of Iowa, well we all know that Self Titled is full of Corey's rap style.

Many people have already explained it, but I love explaining this song. It's about how Corey's dad left him and never came back, even after he got famous. Even though he never knew his father, he still feels like he's destined to become him. Also sidenote, I love watching reaction videos to this song bc that scream at 2:16 always gets people😂 they just be vibin to the song like😎😎😎 and then that scream comes and they're like 😳😳

Welcome to my childhood. I will never forget listening to this song on the bus to school and having my middle school crush sit next to me and ask to listen along. That shared listening experience didn’t last more than 20 seconds and left her with a horrified look on her face. One of their most underrated songs imo. Lyrically I think it’s written better than a lot of their heavier songs and the progression of the instruments is fuckin amazing.

Metabolic has always been one of my favourite tracks from the album, very underrated like you said Alex. I'm glad you could appreciate the raw emotion this has because it's one of my favourite aspects of it, I can't count the amount of times I've listened to it and just gotten goosebumps from the ending. Can't wait to see what you make of Iowa ;)
