I'm metalhead for years and there is one lesson I shall teach you all There is no shitty band, it is just about it being your cup of tea or not For example Slayer is adored by whole world, and I don't really like Slayer and I do not say it is shit or something Listen to what touches your soul! Hail Ghost!

I’m 51 and bought my daughter tickets to see them a couple of weeks ago. She wanted me to go with her. I judged a book by its cover and thought I would not like them, but in preparation listened to their back catalogue. I was wrong. I LOVE THEM!!! As an OG 80s rock lover (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Guns n Roses etc), they are totally up my alley. Seeing them 11 days ago was the best night of my life. I’m hooked forever. Ghost is honestly the freshest act to hit metal in a long time. They may be a little formulaic at times, but that formula is soooo intoxicating you just surrender to it. There's a certain brilliance to that. I disagree with the opening interpretation of the song you read. For starters, this song isn't on the original third album. It's from the LP Popestar, not the EP Meliora. It's also essentially about the secret society the Freemasons, and the line "Do you swear before the devil" references the 13th century initiation rites which allegedly took place before the Baphomet statue; which isn't a Satanic symbol actually. The Baphomet originally symbolized the "As above, so below" balance of the Earth and the heavens, and man's rare ability to bring both into harmony with one another using sacred geometry and ancient architecture.

I'm over 50.....ya, I know......get outta here old geezer. Anywho, I've seen/heard it all since Alice Cooper made everyone cringe and say he was evil and don't listen. My parents remember when Elvis the pelvis was called the same...yup. Yet they still bought and danced to his songs. I saw/heard Alice, Ozzy, and Kiss hit the air waves(radio, kids radio)and eventually the tv. Shows like Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and Midnight Special......wayyyyyy before MTv. I just discovered Ghost. I saw a thumbnail here an there over a few months, but didn't click. I got my first smartphone a month ago, and while listening to a rock station back in my home town NewEngland 1k away at work. I heard "RATS" and fell in love instantly with the way the song was written and sounded. I've been a singer/drummer in bands off n on since the mid "70's". So I am picky with what I listen to, and or wish to play. I looked up "RATS" and the rest will soon be history in an awesome way. I'm trying to catch up with all things Ghost and I'm enjoying the ride. They take me back to all the great sounding hooks, and vocal harmonies that I remember the most about songs of my past. Sweet, Queen, Boston, BOC....etc.... It's nice to watch a live Ghost show that isn't filled with moronic "F" bombs every 5 seconds...like other of today's hardrock bands. Ghost has class, with darkness, and memorable chorus lines. I'm enjoying the reaction videos from this younger generation of music style I used to listen to while dealing with teenage life and school homework. LOL I'm subbing you Alex, even tho this is from June 2018 and it's now Oct. Hey I said I just discovered this band Ghost..... Enjoy your young lives, all those under 30. After that.....life is a crap shoot, double think every decision you make. Rowhhhhk on. \m/ ^_^ \m/

I knew about Ghost for years, but ignored them because I thought they were going to just scream or be another slipknot, and I really couldn't be bothered. Damn I was wrong. I was watching some videos by Priest, and a lot of the comments were saying how shit Ghost was etc, so I finally decided to give them a listen. The first song I decided to listen to was Absolution, and it will forever be my favourite song, and now I'm horribly obsessed. Iv'e been listening to them every day for a year now.

I'm 44 (45 tomorrow actually) and I've been a huge Ghost fan since the very beginning, back when Papa didn't really do anything else but sing, walk around with his incense and look scary. A lot has happened since then and it's been one hell of a ride following them musically and live in concert, seeing them grow into a global phenomenon. They truly are one of a kind.

Hey, another over 40 music lover here, just saying Ghost are the best thing I've heard in the last decade! I'd thought that Nu-metal had killed the scene, and that we'd never hear a melody again, and I was mourning how IDM seems to have taken the place of Industrial. (If anyone knows of any good, fresh new industrial, along the lines of old Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Ministry, etc, fill me in!) Bands like Ghost and The Hu are giving me hope for the future of heavy music - if stuff as diverse as this and Mongolian folk metal can still get people excited, we've got a lot to look forward to!

Guitar playing forms, certain kinds of riffs and connection to the first wave of British heavy metal bands, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin defines a lot of the DNA of all later forms of metal. Some metal bands are based more on a Purple/Rainbow kernel with Rush and prog rock also being a key influence (see Maiden, power metal, prog metal, neoclassical metal, etc), while most extreme forms of metal are based on Sabbath/Zeppelin kernel with the addition of punk rock speed and rage (without the instrumental ineptitude of punk tho). While "rock" not that there is a genre just called that, if you try to really separate it from hard rock/heavy metal, then that goes back to things like garage rock, The Rolling Stones, The Who and later Aerosmith. Metal from its very inception is not only about loudness and aggressive riffing, it also tends to have lots of other key elements one of which is melody itself, as opposed to hard rock or earlier rock it in fact emphasizes melody, odd time signatures and overall flow over rhythm and syncopation, metal also tends to have more classical music influenced riffing (shredding). Of course there is a lot of crossover between metal and rock however you define them, not the least because heavy metal itself is a form of rock music, but as someone who listened to metal and rock for 25 years now, I can immediately detect the original metal vs not metal kernel in a music. Examples of mature early heavy metal are Judas Priest's Sad Wings Of Destiny and Rainbow's first albums. In terms of complexity and variation as well as musical intricacy and virtuosity I take metal over rock any time of any day. Yet if you give these albums to todays youngsters who only met metal as metalcore and death metal, they would find even Judas Priest to be "just" rock. They'd be wrong however. My favorite classic heavy metal song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWemm4JmfZedZtU

But there are definitely those who are merely expressing their opinion, which is what I'm getting from Jack. Of course, he's wrong, but still, it's his opinion. (c; Honestly, though, it's all a matter of personal taste. I enjoy the hell out of Ghost. I enjoy Opeth. I enjoy Pink Floyd. I enjoy Beastie Boys. Some will agree with me 100% on these likes, some will like most but not all, and some will disagree 100%. That's fine by me! Oh, and of course Ghost are metal. Or at least, a good chunk of their stuff is. Feels safe to say the entirety of their first album Opus Eponymous is Sabbath meets Blue Oyster Cult type metal. As the albums progressed, they've expanded their sound. Dance Macabre from their latest album doesn't strike me as metal, but the track Faith from the same album sure does.

I remember becoming addicted to this song when it was all over the radio. I remember saying “Holy fuck! This is amazing”. I always love that slight 80’s atmosphere the verse has. Glad you did this one! Thumbs up 👍

The song Dance Macabre TOTALLY reminds me of an 80s song but I can't seem to place it. Seems may people think it's somehow evoking Madonna's "Borderline" but I can't make that connection....but it's still 80s!

I mean the way you are so visibly genuinely excited about checking out new songs, its really amazing. Your energy is contagious. The diversity that you are taking in is really amazing. My request would be just branch out into more diverse genres of music. Keep going man.

Agree to everything accept for the vocalist having an amazing vocal range. He doesn't tbh, and that doesn't mean he sucks. He's unique in his own way. David Draiman, Chirs Cornell, Corey Taylor, Johannes (avatar), Rob Halford, Serj, now these guys have amazing vocal range.
