Steve Perry is the greatest vocalist of all time IMHO. No one will ever match his vocal abilities. No autotune, no ear pieces just Raw untrained God given talent. Watch Mother Father from same show. It will blow your mind!! Also watch Who’s crying now from same show. Listen to Lovin Touchin Squeezin, Lights, wheel in the sky. Steve Perryhas has several solo albums also, listen to Oh Sherrie and Goolish heart, Strung out. I could go on and on. The Journey rabbit hole is deep but oh so worth it!

Definitely watch them on ‘The Midnight Special’ too… it was a show that came on late at night, and always had the best & upcoming bands. Watch them do “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’“ when Steve has the red and white striped top on. It’s a great performance, and then they immediately go into the song, “City of the Angels“. Fantastic! search Wolfman Jack… He was the coolest disc jockey. -he hosted the midnight special on TV. The story of the band is amazing. The guitarist with the rad hair, Neal Schon and another guy named Gregg Rolie were in a band in the early 70s called Santana. Look up the song ‘black Magic woman’ by Santana. Greg is the one who sang this song. The band broke up but Greg and Neal started Journey after that. There is a lot of history with this band. The original drummer was called Aynsly Dunbar, and then came Steve Smith. He was there for all the high points in the late 70s and early 80s. The very first lead singer was called Robert Fleishman, but as soon as they found Steve, he was instantly the new lead singer. Right now they are touring, yes… 2024 they are touring and the drummer is amazing. He played with Ozzy Osbourne and lots of other bands. … His name is Deen Castronovo. I graduated in 1984 and Journey was my ♥️band and still is 40 years later. Iconic!

Me as well!! 62 also!!! CLIFF... If you want an unbelievable listen, react to Journey's song "Mother/Father" from the same iconic '81 Houston Escape tour. It's noted that Steve found their song "Mother/Father" to be a tough song to get through, as it has immensely challenging vocals. Apparently, he mentioned that it was a hard one to quickly recover from when continuing on while in concert. Give it a good listen to, and you'll realize why. It's a classic Steve Perry performance none the less... absolute perfection. I just love that I lived through the greatest time period for classic rock bands. My first memory was from watching my older brother put a Boston 8-track tape in his red camaro and listening while "More Than a Feeling" came blaring out. Wow! Great memories of times gone by... ❤ to you!!

And this is LIVE. Steve Perry could do anything he wanted to with that amazing voice. His voice and Neal Schon's guitar are the most potent one-two punch in rock history. They played off each other so amazingly well, and their songwriting was just incredible. There's just not music like this anymore. Check out "Faithfully", "When You Love a Woman", "Stone In Love", "Who's Crying Now", "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'", and Steve Perry's solo "I Stand Alone", "Oh Sherry", and "Foolish Heart". Steve Perry wasn't the original lead singer; that was Gregg Rolle. Then Steve came on board and he and Gregg co-sang. Then Gregg left (he was also their keyboardist), and was replaced by Jonathan Cain, and Steve Perry was the only lead singer until their final studio album in 1996, "Trial By Fire". Steve had some health issues and a guy named Steve Augeri took over vocals. After Augeri was Jeff Scott Soto, and now Arnel Pineda. And all of the singers after Perry sang his hits.

I’m from the Bay Area and Steve Perry is a huge San Francisco Giants fan so he would come to the games and sing this during the 7th inning stretch. We love sharing our music, answering questions, and turning you on to the very wide selection of absolutely great music. Greg Rollie was the ORIGINAL lead singer / keyboard player of JOURNEY. Steve Perry joined the band on their third or fourth album which is when they REALLY took off and became the juggernaut you just saw. There was one album with BOTH on it and they sometimes shared vocals on the same songs. I LOVED that. Kind of feel bad for Rollie - once the world heard Perry's voice the writing was kind of on the wall and he kind of just faded away. What's REALLY funny is there was a time when it was really NOT COOL to be into Journey. That time has clearly passed and everyone pretty much universally realizes those were great days and great songs, the likes of which will NEVER be seen again. We didn't realize how good we had it. Didn't realize it could ever go away. It did. Check out "Separate Ways"(music video for that one) and "Who's Crying Now". If you liked this one ...

Journey has been my top band since the 70's when Steve Perry became their lead singer. Steve Perry is in my top 5 male singers to this day. I'll get crap for it most likely but I want to recommend 2 bands of brothers. They're music is incredibly similar because they often shared songwriters and styles. The Osmonds and The Jackson 5. The Jacksons tended more to Motown style and The Osmonds more towards Pop/Rock. Both had little brothers (Donny & Michael) who had great solo careers as well. Donny started doing solo albums in the early 70's while MJ started a bit later. Us preteen and teenage girls in the late 60's & 70's adored both of them. One Bad Apple - The Osmonds (#1 Pop 1971) ABC - Jackson 5 (#1 Soul/Top 100 in 1970)

You will never truly know what great music is until you go through the 70s and late 60s music! Thats what I grew up on. True no autotune just pure raw music. Like ELO, Boston, Chicago, Beatles, Journey, Meatloaf, I have so many records of them all! Elton John, Stones, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez you name a 70s song, I have it!

The bands in the 60's, 70's and 80's had the vocal talent. Steve Perry is amazing. His voice is authentic and controlled. Most of today's singers have average to poor vocal talent and rely on enhanced media and computerized music to make up for the vocals as filler.
