When I was saying goodbye to my girlfriend back in California after serving 4 years in the Marine Corps and it was time for me to go home, This song was playing on the radio and I broke down in tears as we held one another saying goodbye. 26 years later, We still hold one another. We have been married for 24 years now and she told me that she knew when we broke down in tears as we held one another saying goodbye that we shared a love like no other love and she was right. This has always been our song. There will never be another.

First of all, thank you for your service under the "Sempre Fi" creedo. My good friend retired from the Army after 30 years, mostly in the Rangers. But on the music note, I relate brother. Songs at those big moments in life stick with you (and sometimes with the one you leave behind). I did not have the ending you had. I am a truck driver that divorced due to my career as an over-the-road driver. Then I met my soul mate in southern California as our divorce process started. I was 40 and she was 23 with 4 children. For nearly 2 years, I tried balancing career and being with her. But I could not mentally drive just SoCal without wanting to off myself. I had to do what I was meant to do - drive 48 states and Canada. It wasn't even a job to me - it is WHO I am. The tearful goodbye with me pulling out of the drive way with her and her 2 youngest crying on the porch is still very painful and it's been 17 years. There are 2 songs that I can hardly stand to listen to. One she sent me via email "Are You Alright" by Lucinda Williams and "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star. The Lucinda tune is crushing lyrically. Mazzy Star was a song that we listened to on the greatest and most intimate night we had together. I swear our souls merged that night. It's the only way I can explain it. In the middle of the song, I felt this combined feelings of warmth and chills. It was a 2 second jolt which she felt at the same time. We were just laying together facing each other in bed with eyes close and we opened our wide eyes at the same time and she asked "What the he11 just happened!?" I had no answer. We just hugged and said "I love you". I get goosebumps thinking about it still. That song was imprinted on us. Music is so awesome! Peace!

Within the past couple years as well the lead singer put out some songs there was a lot of things going on a lot of mental games. He had said that he would never see again but a past relationship who died of cancer he promised her that he would sing again. It's like those songs that he put out only a few went ballistic and people were also saying that he was going to go back to journey but he has not and they've invited him back but he still will not do it I'm just fortunate I had the chance to see them you're from the Denver area and I am too and I got to see them

Steve Perry has never been married. He was in a relationship for a year & a half with someone battling breast cancer that sadly passed away. When he first met her he found out she was battling cancer and said it didn't matter. He had instantly fallen for her and he supported her, made memories with her and stayed by her side until the end and said she was the love of his life. I just watched an interview with him and when he was asked about Kelly it instantly brought both tears and a smile to his face 12 years later. ❤ Stay safe

A while back he met a lovely new lady he said was the love of his life and he committed to her despite a cancer diagnosis. Though she eventually passed away, he said he had no regrets because they were soulmates. Steve Perry is an extraordinary talent and a personal hero. The keyboardist, Jonathan Cain, he is the one that wrote ‘Faithfully’ for his wife. Steve Perry is currently(2024) 75 years old and he was the lead singer. Absolutely phenomenal voice, in fact, his nickname is “the voice”. The lead guitarist is Neal Schon. Steve Smith was the original drummer. The bass guitarist is Ross Vallory. Journey is touring right now. Still! They have a different lead singer, and he is from the Philippines, his name is Arnel Pineda, and he actually sounds a lot like Steve Perry. It’s a long story, but Steve has not been singing with them since about 1986. He has a few albums of his own. Check out ‘Open Arms’. If you liked faithfully, you will go crazy for open arms. There are so many absolutely incredible songs from Journey. So many I don’t even know where to start. Try ‘wheel in the sky’ , lights, separate ways, when you love a woman…. Many more. I was a teenager when they were really really huge and it’s the band of my lifetime. 40 years later, I listen to them all the time. Enjoy!

HUGE RESPECT to you for choosing being home to raise your daughter over traveling on tour. My dad worked out of state for a large part of my childhood and I hated for him to be away so much. The best feeling ever was when he told us he was going to get to work close to home and never had to leave us for weeks at a time again. HUGE RESPECT to you!

He never got married, met the love of his life after he left Journey, she was in the midst of stage 4 cancer and died a year later. He is alive, but not "out there" so much anymore. He is 75.

My wife was in love with Steve Perry and she saw Journey and then Steve in his solo career and still has all of her concert tickets from those shows and I’m convinced that if Steve showed up on our doorstep I’d be left there by myself and it wouldn’t surprise me. She’s been in love with him since the early 80s. This is one of my favorites.

The great Prince said the guitar riff in this song was his inspiration for his song Purple Rain.

What is uncanny is that they inspired so many other artists to their number one hits and Grammy awards, yet never got them themselves. Also many great bands got their start opening for them.

He just turned 75 in January and is living in the valley in California. Some days you can run into him a Brent's Deli while having his lunch ;)

The song was written by Jonathan Cain the keyboardist. He wrote it for his wife. Unfortunately they didn't stay together. Steve Perry is the singer. He left the band officially in 1996 because of a hip injury that prevented him from touring. Plus, I think he was tired of touring as well. Journey is still together with a lead singer that sounds remarkably like Steve Perry, but no one can really replace him. He is alive and kicking and after being out of the business for years, released a solo album a couple of years ago. Check out Foolish Heart from his solo album Street Talk released in 1984.

Arnel sounds nothing like Steve Perry. He needs to just quit trying and just sing like himself. He's a good singer but no one should try to sound like Steve. You're just going to get your feelings hurt.

@@trb2021 If people listen closely, sometimes you can hear Arnel's accent. I agree he sounds nothing like Steve Perry. Arnel is a good singer, but he does need to sing like himself, and keep it real.

The band wouldn't wait for him to recover from the hip surgery, which makes no sense. They haven't been the same since he left.

My husband, who passed away a few months ago unexpectedly, was a professional musician who traveled the world on big tours and he was just in inducted into the Canadian Rock and roll Hall of fame. This song was one that he and I both love to and he'd be on the road he called me and sing part of it to me so many times it was wonderful. Steve Perry is just a ledge

"Mother father", Steve really expressed his soul in this song. Wow! a different realm, a different mindset a different experience but art for the sake of art was the Perry Journey. Even the drummer stated this was his favorite song of all of their songs. Keep in mind before they became Journey they were Santana. Lead singer Steve Perry was single during these years, however about the time he wanted to get a break from the non stop touring, he started to date a girl he met Sherry. Perry did a solo album while still being lead singer for Journey, and had a hit song called "Oh Sherry". Later in life in recent years he has released some songs, which are good but are of a different nature and style. One has to keep in mind pop rock or love ballads was not Steve Perry, he loved the real classical songs, were talking times when mono ruled. That's how he learned his amazing talent from. But as the lead singer for Journey the band demand of the schedule I think burned him out, it was endless despite this video depicting band members being so sad about being away from home and their family, Steve at this time had no one, but wanted someone, but could never find that someone on the road. I think the band over all meant well, but most of them if something broke could easily repair a string or some other part, with Steve his vocals was the instrument and it needed time to rest. I think some of the band members were selfish, in not understanding that biological fact, so they pushed Steve Perry to lose the passion of singing, if that's lost we end up with the fake Journey that's been touring decades longer than the original, but never being able to hit any new heights.

My mom died in 1993 and Faithfully was her and my dad’s song. I didn’t cry at all until this song played at her funeral. It was like a damn broke. Took me over a decade to hear Faithfully and not cry. It’s so easy to connect to the emotion from the vocals and instrumental in every Journey song.
