I feel a hamstring stretch and its hard to keep it when its hurting. Is this supposed to happen.

Is it on the weightbearing or non weightbearing leg? if on weightbearing leg, make sure you get a little bend in your knee. This is a stability exercise; not a hamstring stretch so it is ok to bend that knee to allow your trunk to be parallel to the floor. If you are referring to the non weighbearing leg, there may be an underlying cause for that pain. Some testing would be needed to properly diagnose that cause. Hope this helps.
