This was a teenage Jonghyun. Please don't equate his final letter and thoughts with every thing he did. He laughed a lot, he was silly, he had lots of fun on stage, he was full of love.

It's odd that people think I associate the illness with who Jonghyun is. If anything reading that letter was the total opposite, but I can see how some people might think that but I have worked in the Mental Health field for almost 20 years and to read that letter was to show my support and understanding for anyone dealing with such an issue. It was hard to read because it reminded me of the so many people I've had the opportunity to assist and guide during their painful and emotional fight with these illnesses. NOONE should tie a person's illness to their character and for the life of me I don't know how any body would dare. We are people who all deal with our own personal feelings in different shapes and forms and in my opinion, as I've told my patients, we All struggle with mental illness to some degree, it's just that some have a heavier bag to carry than others and I believe that Jonghyun was all his Family and Group members said he was regardless of what illness he was battling. MONQ TV beautiful response. To me Jonghyun’s vulnerability just makes him all the more incandescent. Marilyn Monroe is not the biggest star Hollywood has ever produced because of her beauty but because of her sensitivity and fragility thSt made her illuminate the screen. And make people feel that she knew them too somehow. Her pain was a link to others (Madonna by contrast is a “star” - remote and cold). Jonghyun was vibrant because he was so in touch with all aspects of being human- the great pain and doubts etc we loved him all the more. I guess I understand fans who feel hurt when people remember him for his suicide. But I truly don’t think that anybody would reduce him to that.

Reggie P he was full of love and he did have happy times. I suffer from depression and anxiety and have cptsd (complex post traumatic stress disorder) and ocd. I still have happy times and I do laugh and I am very silly and always trying to make others laugh cus I don’t want them to feel on the inside like I do. I do have genuine happiness in my heart sometimes but there are other times where the sadness just takes over and I can’t function. It has a process and you have to know how to process it and know when to just roll with it knowing it will pass or fighting back against it. Sometimes rolling with it knowing it will pass is easier. Sometimes fighting back is easier. But when you do not have someone to guide you which I did not, that makes it all so much harder. I won’t say I know Jonghyun’s heart, but I do know his sadness. He did to a degree understand the process, but I think somewhere along the line he lost his fighting spirit. I can’t say I know for sure cus I am not him. But I do know anxiety. I do know sadness. I do know profound depression. I wish I could have helped him. 💜

I grew up listening to Y Si Fuera Ella by Alejandro Sanz and it was one of my favorite songs! One of the reasons I became a SHINee fan is because of this song and how beautifully Jonghyun interpreted it. It blows my mind that this song was on their first album and Jonghyun's vocals were already impeccable. Alejandro Sanz is known among the hispanic community for being an amazing singer and Jonghyun matched his vocal ability perfectly, he even tweeted this performance and praised Jonghyun! This song is a cover/rewrite of Alexandro Sanz's"Y si fuera Ella." so most people just call it by its Spanish title, but Jonghyun's version is called "Hyeya" or"Haeya". Haeya is the girl's name that Jonghyun is singing about that is why it's the only word in the English lyrics that isn't translated because there isn't a translation, its a name.Jonghyun heard the Spanish version of this song and he and his manager loved it so much that Jonghyun had to make it his own by translating the words into Korean and changing it slightly to make it fit his vision of what the song is about. This was one of Jonghyun's most epic and iconic performances of this song. And it will forever be a symbol of what made him such a great artist. In the performance the explosion you heard was the explosion of his heart. He felt so passionately about the girl that his heart literally exploded. This was Jonghyun's very first solo single and he was only 19 when this song was first released -- only a year or so after his debut -- so this just goes to show you how amazing of an artist he really was. His mastery of singing, emotion and stage presence is awe inspiring. If he was this good so early in his career, just imagine what he was like after more than 10 years in the industry. As you are starting to discover, Jonghyun was special, and it's songs like this where you can see how powerfully he felt about everything he did. One of the things that he was known for was the fact that he was full of love an compassion for everyone and everything in this world and he often wore his heart on his sleeve. When he performed you could feel every emotion flowing from his being. That's what made him such a great singer/songwriter, but it was also what I think caused him to feel so much pain. He took everything so personally, both the good and the bad and he never thought he was good enough. He did so much good in his short 27 years and he left behind a great legacy, however, his time was much too short. His legacy includes several dozen songs that were wrote and composed by him. It's one of the things that all Shawols hold onto as part the legend that he left behind that we feel is our duty to share with the world in order to keep his memory alive. You did well Jonghyun.

This is technically his first solo song but it isn't on his solo discography because it was released on SHINee's first full album The SHINee World in 2008. He didn't promote this himself or anything, it's just a bside from that album. This was years before kpop group members actually debuting solo became mainstream. The Korean lyrics for this song were written by Kenzie. Jonghyun first wrote lyrics for himself and SHINee in 2009 with the song Juliette. Since then he participated in the lyrics for many SHINee songs, and his first self-composed song (or, the first we got to hear) "Beautiful Tonight" wasn't shown to us until 2013, at SHINee's 5th anniversary party. After that, Jonghyun played many of his self-composed songs on his radio show Blue Night starting in 2014. In 2015 when he officially debuted solo with his album Base, the song Beautiful Tonight was also included as a bonus track, which makes it the first "official release" of his self-composed songs. To be honest, a decade ago it was still very rare for most kpop idols to participate in writing their own music. That has changed a lot now, but the second generation of idols (including SHINee) had to really prove themselves to be able to participate in the music the way they do now.

I’ve never been able to watch this performance without tears, it’s so emotional and raw and beautiful and leaves you hollow and drained, but full and amazed at the same time. Jonghyun has a way of grabbing your attention and once you fall under his spell... there’s no way out. I’m so glad you loved the song and his singing, the further you go into his and SHINee’s discography the more you’ll fall in love with their music and the boys themselves. I can’t wait to see it. As for trolls... in my opinion those who put thumbs down on any SHINee video and ESPECIALLY their ballads are simply jealous. Jealous of their talent, vocals, stage presence, you name it. Dearest Jonghyun... You’re right, it’s a theater, it’s a whole amazing spectacle with him and his outstanding vocals being the main actor and we can only wish we had a chance to experience it live... You cannot imagine how happy it makes me to see people still talk about him and react to his songs. This really comforts me. Jonghyun was and still is so special to me, he's one of a kind. My heart never connected with an artist the way it connected with him. It still hurts that he had to leave like that, thinking that he wasn't good enough, hating himself the way he did. You were wondering why they sound good live. Jonghyun made all the members if you didn't know run, and while they are running they sing their song, each one has to sing their part. That's why in the concert they are so good. There is a video out there where you can see them running/jogging and singing.

This is one of his "rip your heart out" performances. Leaves my eyelashes wet each time I listen. I imagine there wasn't a dry eye in the arena that night. The whole song is a desperate plea. I remember the first CD I ever bought was the SHINee amigo album in the 6th grade. I listened to this song, and the rest of the album, over and over again a ridiculous amount of times. I genuinely believe that SHINee's first album was one of their strongest. Not to mention, it's unheard of for groups to put a member's solo on their album, but that's just how great Jonghyun was.

There was The Day of Music on 21st of June and Sanz posted Jjong's version of this song on his Facebook. He once said that in his opinion Jonghyun's version is so much better than the original. Besides this song was on the first SHINee album, Jjong was a teenager back then. He was just fantastic, very intelligent, and he was so much more than that last decision he made in his life. Let's not remember him by just that.

He was happy back in the days I remember how silly and soft he was and it made me fall in love with him so bad he was just depressed at the end and he couldn't talk about it much so he lost the fight at the end It's no one's fault, he was such a great artist and person ! The R is for Romaji which means it's written in Latin [Roman] letters as English speakers use for English, and reproducing the sounds for 'us' of the language of the song. Kyuhyun is a member of Super Junior and a senior of Jonghyun, they were really close friends both being in SMent and Kyuhyun performed Jonghyun's Y Si Fuera Ella on a show called the Masked Singer. If you react to it you'll want to listen to that. Kyuhyun is one of my favourite vocalists in the world and he delivers the tribute to Jonghyun beautifully.

You are such a wonderful person-ty for helping to keep Jonghyun’s memory alive. He was such a beautiful, caring soul who helped countless people by being open about mental illness in a society where it is stigmatized. He fought so hard against his depression...it breaks my heart that he lost that struggle. I would recommend his songs “Elevator” and “Let Me Out”...both deal with his struggles and “Let Me Out” directly addresses wanting to die...If you haven’t watched SHINee’s “Our Page”, please do...The boys are singing directly to Jonghyun and the lyrics are beautiful. The only other singer that I think sounds better live is Dimash....he reminds me a lot of Jjong in the sense that he puts his all into everything that he does.... definitely a new subscriber ❤️💜❤️💜

“ROM” means “romanized”. So fans have taken the Korean characters and written out the Korean words with English letters so other fans who don’t know Korean can still learn how to pronounce the words / sing along. But yeah! SHINee’s lives are just as good if not better than the recordings - which is why Shawols always recommend live videos more than MVs. It’s a whole other level! And regarding Jonghyun’s career, people consider his “Base” album to be his official “debut”. But Hyeya came out yeeeears before then on one of SHINee’s albums. They didn’t do solos again on SHINee albums after that. It was a one time thing (unfortunately imo). But... at this point all of the members have full solo albums except Minho. So I guess the wait was worth it?

It's part of her personality, but really before December nobody noticed Hyeya and they have turned it into a kind of "statement" from he and people regret it, it's a bit frustrating. What I saw in his performance was passion, pain, but not from a personal level, more like playing into a character and yes putting that together with the lyrics as if acting out a script written by someone else. As you said you are just at the beginning of your journey. So I thought of a way to let you dive deeper into the old times of SHINee before going on and following their path. And the performances/covers Jonghyun did on radio came to my mind. I don´t see lot of idols do this anymore and these clips are really old and not in the best quality but they show Jonghyuns true talent. It is live and just his voice over the backing track in a little recording studio. I recommend these clips and would love to see you react to them. Maybe you can watch them all at one if you want. Because they are all the same type of videos it would be possible. But you can also make a single review of each of them. Because they are all between 2008 and 2013 I recommend to watch them before you go deeper into his solo albums just because of the time they were recorded. I like this song but I am a fan of the original better, hear me out, the original is a poem of how you can live without someone and still remembering her in everything, it was a poem by Alejandro Sanz, one of the Managers of SM was a fan of the song and got the rights and Kenzie and another lyricist tried to write it the same way, but they couldn't do it, according to her book on how to write lyrics, they got young Jonghyung to sing it to showcase his vocals and because to the Manager he was the one to sing it... I have the link, where she says it, but Arezoo made a better video that she translated which is better, Kenzie says it was hard to translate and even harder for young Jonghyun to do, the song was too emotional, they wrote it on a desperation way which is not the way Sanz wrote it so to me it is lost in translation even though it is a great way of showing off his vocals. As a fan of the original song I like the original lyrics... Ella you said it as if it was with a y not a ll...

I totally agree...and Monq should check out Arezoo's channel and her videos (I mentioned her channel to him on Jonghyun's tribute reaction so he can get more in depth insight into jonghyun in Shinee). The owner of SM I heard was the one who choose (hand picked) Jognhyun for this song...and they couldn't have chosen anyone better....👍💙😊 #missingJonghyun

I absolutely love jonghyun but this is not one of my favorites. It almost is histrionic. I think he really excelled in conveying deep emotions quietly like Elevator which conveys so much conflicting emotions so eloquently that you cannot help but be deeply moved.
