Thank you for posting this video. I find your analysis very good, and easier to follow than the analysis I see on many other channels. And I definitely appreciate you doing these Hippo videos.

Favorite concept in the Hippo: eventually striking! For real though. I'd add that striking in the Hippo generally involves rerouting the knights back and then forward after locking things down. At least in my experience this is how it goes.

Bh3 or Ba3 (h6 or a6 for Black) are always good to keep in mind, and so are Bc1 and Bf1!! As Black there are times when it's better to leave the Bishop on c8 in preparation for a strike on the f file, rather than french-cheetoing it on b6 and having to move it back to support the attack. So in short, as a Hippo player, don't be afraid to dance around with the Bishops, they don't have to stay in their fiancheeto.

Totally! Great thoughts! I love to simply slid a fianchettoed bishop one square when the opponent spends a ton of moves to lock it down.

In that case there's a lot of good moves but I think the best is 3. Nd5!

Yes, the Hippo is a very solid opening for either color. Have you ever tried out the Stonewall structures (both Kingside and Queenside) ? They keep the center closed much like the Hippo. I've been playing them for both black and white for many years now, and they are great fun, too !! if you get the chance, check these structures out. Thanks for all the great vids you've made and I hope to see many more! Oh,yeah, And one of the benefits is that you almost always have a nice outpost for a knight in one of the central squares. :)

Hey Kalista, I will check them out. I still need to make a Stonewall Attack video and that could be fun to learn it in more depth + make a video on it. Thanks for giving me ideas I really appreciate it!

@@TheChessGiant You are quite welcome for the ideas. I just think it would be a great video or even, series of videos because no one else has done much, if anything on the Stonewalls ( K side, Q side, or for White or Black )! It would be cool if you Pioneered these types of openings vids! Good Luck !! :)

Next time I hope to make a ring about opening the hippo defense in black in front of white and white doing a long swipe in the queen's wing and pushing a pawn d4 e4 f4 g4 and attack

When using the Hippo with White do we just call it "the Hippo" or "the Hippo Attack?" Defense implies we are playing black?
@TheChessGiant Жыл бұрын
Ya... it's a very good question! I always just say Hippo Defense because it's the same exact setup. But... ya technically there's no opening for white that is called a Defense. Although we use the Hippopotamus Defense setup ( often played from black) and play it as white.
