sober ii is the album thesis. it is the concept, distilled. we party to distract ourselves, but what happens when the party stops and we have to deal with our feelings? that’s melodrama.

This was the beggining to the "concept album" thing. Lets put the cards over the table. Andddd lets say it, this guy got the wrong tag price. He says this reminds him of taylor sound when the truth is... this artistry was made before jack and taylor material

This is one of the few albums I know EXACTLY where I was when I first heard it. It was 2020 during quarantine, which is when I decided to actively expand my music taste. I'd heard good things about Melodrama, so I decided to give it a go at 1 AM... I proceeded to be in a total trance as I listened to the entire album twice back to back, stunned at absolute perfection. Listened to it a THIRD time the next morning, and it cemented itself as a top 5-10 album of all time for me. It's PERFECTION
@alexstevens6137Ай бұрын
To me, this is a 10/10 album. I respect that this type of music isn't totally up your alley but that you could appreciate all of the finer details that make this album so great... the themes, the sequencing, the vibes (for a lack of a better term), the artwork, and the length. As someone who loves this type of music, it's an emotional powerhouse with incredible writing, production, 0 skips AND it has all of the aforementioned attention to detail. Been loving your reactions! Would love to see you react to my personal favourite artist: Bon Iver.

YES MY FAVORITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME
@dominicT1069Ай бұрын
Sober 2 (Melodrama) is honestly one of my favorite songs in the last several years. It's like she kinda went Super Saiyan with it. Lorde singing "We told you this is Melodrama/you wanted something that we offered" while switching to a melodramatic trap beat is just *chefs kiss*. She perfectly captures the emotions of maturing through life as a young adult: heartbreak, parties, self-worth, chaos, the horrors of the world; the doubts society asks us : "what can you offer?", etc. I like to think the trap beat reminds us that though we slowly conform and navigate through life, that spirit of youth is like a lion ready to pounce at any moment.

one of my favorite lyrics is "those great whites they have big teeth" because she just called the person a liar - so, think of "white lies" having big teeth like great white sharks, it's a double meaning - AND instead of the usual "little white lie" she's saying their white lies are GREAT, they're big and important. it works on multiple levels, it's SO SMART.

Not gonna lie, I’m kinda mad at you for cut out one of the best parts/lines of the whole album 😞🫵 In “The Louvre” there’s a line that said “blow all my friendships to sit in hell with you, but we’re the greatest, they’ll hang us in the louvre, down the back but who cares~ still the louvre” Back in the French Revolution. The Louvre was where the criminals were hang up, down the back, specially that ones who were accused of being traitors. In that line Lorde said metaphorically that she felt like a traitor to choose being with her loved one instead, and she should be hanged. Also the louvre is one of the most famous art museums in the world, but not many people know the fact that a lot of horrible acts were committed there. So knowing that the whole album is about a relationship that became toxic at some point, The Louvre is a metaphor about relationships that everyone from the outside perceives beautiful but the inside isn’t exactly that beautiful/healthy.
