"Traditional horse stalls" are just bad for horses, which were never meant to live indoors. Before you spend a lot of money on a barn for yourself, do a little research and consider what's best for your animals.

The horses do not need to live inside at all times depending on what season and weather it is, it should determine when the horses should be inside.

Who said anything about living in them? They come in for vets and for safe feeding. On nights with freezing rain and sleet, or high winds. They live out side, but they are allowed to come inside. That’s what ‘domesticated’ means. These horses we have today are far from the ones that you are talking about. Get off your high horse, and give your friend a little comfort. Geez.
